1st March Barnstaple 38 Camborne 0
Camborne fielded no less than nine players under the age of 20 and they played with great spirit going down to promotion chasing Barnstaple. Though the game was effectively lost by half time with ‘Town’ trailing by 26-0, the visitors made a real contest of the 2nd period despite the loss of injured lock Martin Goldsworthy.
No 8 David Roberts led his young side superbly making tireless surges from the back of the scrum whilst wing Rob Floyd was outstanding in defence.
In the 2nd period full back Joe Parma made a number of his trademark counter attacking runs but unfortunately the Cherry & Whites could not finish these off with a deserved consolation try.

Defences were generally on top throughout this local derby clash that ended in the unsatisfactory circumstances of uncontested scrums for most of the 2nd half as the visitors were unable to field a front row replacement. For the Reds centre Jason Pengilly landed a penalty in each half with his opposite number Adam Copeland on target once for the home side.
Camborne 3rds 7 St Day 11
Camborne conceded the double to St Day in this closely fought encounter splendidly refereed by Cherry & White Simon Issacs in the absence of an appointed official.
Veteran lock Matt Shaw bagged the home side’s touchdown which full back Jamie Giles converted. For the Saints flanker Stuart Trembath crossed whilst fly half Matt Downing and full back Mark Carlyon slotted a penalty apiece.

Camborne’s 2nd string gave a superb all round team performance to defeat the experienced Pirates at the Mennaye Field. Colts players Akiva Eaton and Nick Welstead were outstanding in the Cherry & Whites back row whilst the experienced old heads of Sean Oates and Kelvin Smitham dictated play. The visitors swept to a 22-0 halftime lead courtesy of four tries from their youthful threequarter line. Left wing Johnny Cook (2), centre Adam Copeland and right wing Rob Floyd crossed for the touchdowns with Copeland adding a single conversion. In a more even 2nd half the home side bagged a converted try but ‘Town’ were not to be denied and veteran prop Stuart Hood went over to complete a deserved victory.

16th Feb Clevedon 38 Camborne 5
Camborne’s young team put up a spirited performance in Bristol but could not prevent another League defeat. Fielding five players under 20 years old the Cherry & Whites hit back from going 21-0 down inside the first quarter to ensure the remainder of the game was evenly contested.
‘Town fielded Colts prop Nathan Curnow as an emergency hooker and the youngster bagged their solitary try from a rolling maul on 26 minutes.
With Colts flanker Akiva Eaton playing a blinder in the loose the visitors were unlucky not to add further to their tally as halftime arrived with the scoreline 5-31.
In a storming 2nd half rearguard Camborne’s lighter forwards put the home sides pack under continual pressure but unfortunately points did not materialise.
Near the end ‘Town’ conceded a final converted try to send them home defeated but certainly not disgraced.

9th Feb Camborne 14 Newton Abbot 36
Camborne had high hopes of a first League win when leading 9-5 at the break but the visitors hit back with five 2nd half tries to secure victory. In glorious conditions at the Recreation Ground Newton Abbot took an early lead with an unconverted try before angled penalties in the 9th and 16th minutes from the boot of David Mankee gave ‘Town’ a single point advantage.
Defences were then on top until scrum half Mankee extended the lead with a 3rd penalty success as the interval neared. Unfortunately the Cherry & Whites let in a converted midfield try early in the 2nd period and then conceded a 46th minute pushover to make the score 9-17.
Almost immediately a superb length of the field run by full back Joe Parma set up a good position for the home side and from the resulting forward drive young flanker Martin Goldsworthy bagged a try to cut the deficit to only three points.
Crucially however Camborne knocked on securing the resulting kick off to surrender field position and off the back of the ensuing scrum let in a soft converted try to the right of the posts.
Now trailing by 14-24 Camborne were not out of it but a disputed corner try on the hour when flanker Vic Norman appeared to make a double movement made the game safe for the visitors.
In the final quarter exchanges were fairly even with the only scoring a further converted touchdown for Newton Abbot.

3rd Feb Camborne 34 Hayle 0
Camborne recorded only their second victory of the season to send local rivals Hayle crashing out of the Skinners Cornwall Cup. In heavy conditions at the Recreation Ground on Sunday the Cherry & Whites progressed by running in five tries against a hardworking Lions side.
After an evenly contested first quarter the home side went ahead in the 21st minute when skipper David Roberts peeled off a rolling maul following a lineout catch and drive to crash over for an unconverted try.
Soon after scrum half David Mankee chipped ahead down a vacant blind side for right wing James Richards to dive on the ball in the in goal area. Mankee converted well on the angle for a 12-0 lead.
Mankee then extended the advantage to fifteen points with a 34th minute penalty from under the posts. Just before half time ‘Town’ effectively went out of sight when No 8 Roberts stormed down the touchline before releasing Mankee to slide over in the corner.
Camborne began the 2nd half full of confidence and following a bout of handling full back Joe Parma’s weaving run ended with a touchdown in the scoreboard corner superbly converted by Mankee.
Hooker Andrew Smith was next to romp over for a 53rd minute score which Mankee again converted with a well struck kick.
A determined visiting team had their scoring opportunities in a wide open final quarter but neither side put points on the board leaving Camborne as comfortable winners.

19th Jan Camborne 8 Yattton 15
Camborne slipped to yet another League defeat with a lacklustre performance against Yatton at the Recreation Ground. The visitors had first use of the wind and slope but neither side really threatened in the first quarter.
Trailing 0-3 to an 18th minute penalty Camborne then conceded a try straight from their restart when a missed tackle allowed centre Mike Harris to waltz through a doglegged midfield defence to cross near the posts. Full back Tony Hill converted for a 10 point lead.
Camborne had an opportunity to cut the deficit on the half hour but David Mankee failed to find the posts from 35 metres. Still only eight points down ‘Town’ were in with a shout but as the interval neared another soft try for Harris after Hill purposefully ran back a wayward clearance kick left a 2nd half mountain to climb.
Just minutes into the 2nd period the Cherry & Whites opened their account when scrum half Mankee put over a penalty from in front of the posts.
In the remainder of a scrappy 3rd quarter Camborne were unable to make any further inroads despite some line breaking forays from prop Scott Macdonald and Mankee was off target with another penalty chance.
Unfortunately it took ‘Town’ until the 75th minute to breach the Yatton defence with centre Tom Hinds driven over under a pile of bodies for a try which fly half Josh Matavesi could not convert. Time then ran out with the Bristol based visitors comfortably maintaining their lead.

5th Jan Brixham 21 Camborne 12
Camborne had high hopes of a 1st League win with a 9 point lead at half time but the Fisherman hit back to grind out the result in atrocious conditions. Flanker Dave Eustace withdrew injured bringing Colts player Martin Goldsworthy into the Cherry & White backrow and the youngster did not let the side down.
.
Trailing 3-0 to an early penalty ‘Town’ deservedly took the lead when lock Ryan Smith crashed over from a lineout catch and drive. Before half time another unstoppable forward surge brought a try for flanker Sam Bartle that scrum half David Mankee converted for a 3-12 scoreline.
.
Early in the 2nd half another penalty success moved the home side into contention and soon after an unconverted try reduced the arrears to only 1 point. Brixham’s heavier forwards were now on top but Camborne worked hard to keep then at bay until conceding the crucial try to fall behind with 15 minutes left.
.
Trailing by 16-12 ‘Town’ needed a try but near the end it was the home side that made the game safe with their 3rd touchdown.

Camborne finally broke their duck to record a first win of the season in this traditional Boxing Day clash. Fielding their development fifteen the visitors took an 8th minute lead with a penalty from fly half Grant Thirlby.

Playing down the slope in the 2nd period the home side gradually began to exert territorial advantage but the Reds defence held firm.

15th Dec Camborne 10 Hornets 27
Camborne‘s disappointing home defeat at the hands of Hornets leaves them a precarious seven points adrift at the foot of South West Two. Having restricted the visitors to only an eight point advantage the expected 2nd half revival with wind and slope advantage failed to materialise.
It could have been much better for ‘Town’ at the break had two searing midfield breaks from centre Rob Ley and full back Joe Parma been finished off with more conviction or a penalty shot apiece from scrum half David Mankee or fly half Josh Matavesi found the target.
Soon after half time Camborne pinned Hornets deep in their own half and after a couple of line out catch and drives hooker Andrew Smith burrowed over to cut the deficit to 3 points.
This was as good as it got though as Hornets despite being down to 14 men went further a head with an unconverted 55th minute try. Camborne could not get any territorial advantage and spurned a great opportunity from long range after Mankee sped down the touchline to release centre Tom Hinds but failed to gather the ambitious return pass with the last defender to beat.
Ten minutes from time a 3rd visiting try sealed the result with the conversion from near the posts making the score 5-20. Near the end the Cherry & Whites conceded another soft converted try before gaining some consolation when 17 year old Matavesi making his full debut beat several defenders before sending left wing Cameron Bone over wide out.
