Camborne 36 - 0 Tavistock RFC
Great start is the key to a good win for Town.
The Cherry & Whites imposed themselves straight from the kick off today and were 21 points up in the first 13 minutes as they blitzed their Devon opposition with some superb handling and support play. The match was not all one way traffic and Tiverton finished the first half hammering at the Camborne line with a 10 minute spell of pressure which the home side did well to stem.
This was an excellent team performance with everyone playing their part in attack and defence as the Cherry & Whites picked up their 20th league win of the season to stay in pole position for the tital.
a full report will follow.
With Kingsbridge losing at home it's now virtualy a two horse race for automatic promotion and looks like both Cornish teams will be in with chance of going up into Southwest 1 to join St Ives.

Camborne remain in pole position for promotion from Western Counties after going out of sight inside the first quarter against struggling Tavistock.
On a lovely spring like afternoon at the Recreation Ground lock Jon Griffiths led the Cherry & Whites for the 1st time with Dave Roberts unwell and injured wing Tom Notman was replaced by older brother Adam.
Inside five minutes ‘Town’ were in front when a sweeping handling move involving Laurie Manna and scrum half Dean Pascoe ended with hooker Sam Bartle galloping up in support to touchdown. David Mankee converted with a well judged kick for 7-0.
Soon after full back Joe Parma fielded a high kick on half way and proceeded to run back through the visiting defence to go over for a sparkling solo try. Fly half Mankee added the extras from a wide angle.
Parma then initiated a 12th minute counter attack that created a try scoring opportunity for right wing Cameron Bone to slice infield and score near the posts. Mankee’s conversion made the score 21-0.
Tavistock then stemmed the scoring flow for a while but after No 8 Ryan Spargo had a try ruled out the home side moved further ahead on 29 minutes. A flowing bout of handling again involving Parma saw left winger Notman taking the scoring pass and scorching over.
Early in the 2nd period Mankee booted a penalty to the corner and from the resulting line out the forwards drove relentlessly to the line for flanker Sam Matavesi to touch down a fifth Cherry & White try.
Midway through the half ‘Town’ centres Manna and Tom Hinds both played their part in an exciting length of the field move before Bone sent the elusive Parma racing clear for his 2nd try of the afternoon.
Near the end a little of the gloss was taken off the home win when after a flurry of fists in front of the grandstand Mankee received his marching orders from Cornwall Society referee Simon Lord.

Camborne completed the Merit Table double over Camelford who were making their first ever visit to Crane Park.
For the winners scrum half Dave Macdonald touched down a hat trick of tries with other scores coming from wing Dan Isaacs 2, fly half Matt Downing, wing Tom Jenkins and centre Scott Powell. Downing landed five conversions and a brace of penalties to finish with a 21 point personal tally.

Town's injury curse has struck once more with this week's casualties being leading try scorers captain David Roberts (10 tries) and wing Tom Notman (8 tries). Fortunatly for the Cherry & Whites they welcome back Ryan Spargo from injury, who himself has more tries to games ratio than any other player in the squad. In on the wing comes flyer Adam Notman who has been scoring regularly for the reserves as he did last season for the first team.
The captaincy has gone to lock Jon Griffiths who every week leads by example and is a talisman for the young players around him. The only other changes to the line up see's prop's Nathan Curnow and Leigh Hocking brought in for Nigel Endean & Scott Macdonald who drop to the bench along side Martin Woolcock.

Penryn RFC 6 - 16 Camborne
Camborne complete the double over the Borough to stay clear at theTop
A try in each half from Tom Notman and Jon Griffiths plus two Mankee penalty's proved enough to take the points in this keenly contested local derby match.
Parma skips through the Penryn defence Randlesome gets a yellow
Camborne maintained their lead at the top of Western Counties West with a hard fought Cornish derby win at mid table Penryn.
Centres Laurie Manna and Tom Hinds had good games for the Cherry & Whites as did hard working wing Cameron Bone and skipper Dave Roberts.
The visitors were first onto the scoreboard in the 15th minute when David Mankee landed a 35 metre penalty after Penryn strayed offside.
Soon after the home side were reduced to 14 men with a sinbinning and ‘Town’ capitalised with the opening try of the game. Fly half Mankee booted a penalty to touch close in from where the forwards secured line out ball and drove for the line for lock Jon Griffiths to touch down for a 0-8 score line.
Penryn hit back minutes later with fly half Rob Banks on target with a penalty to reduce the deficit to only five points at the break.
Early in the 2nd half good work in midfield by Bone set up a position from where the ball was worked swiftly along to line for wing Tom Notman to go over.
Again the home side came back swiftly with Banks slotting a 2nd penalty to make the score 6-13.
Camborne then created several try scoring chances with Roberts breaking the line with several of his trademark charges but failed to capitalise in the face of some determined home defence.
Inside the last quarter Mankee was on target with a penalty to establish a crucial two scores clear cushion and from there the game ran to its conclusion without any further points for either side.

Western Counties league
Wadebridge Camels defeat of Kingsbridge means Town need 5 wins from the 6 remaining matches to be crowned Champions and take the automatic promotion spot. With Kingsbridge still 3 points adrift of the Cherry & Whites and no longer having a game in hand this puts Camborne in a very strong position and even though the Camels are now only 1 point behind, Town now have an extra game to play.
Camborne who have 4 of the last 6 matches away and visit Wadebridge in their penultimate game will need to have as many of their injury hit squad fit for the run in as possible. A defeat at the Camels would no longer be crutial for Town but any other loses could cost them the chance of taking the league tital. Truro, Penryn & Bude could still have a say in who wins the tital, Truro visit both Wadebridge & Camborne whilst Penryn host Kingsbridge & Camborne and Bude have Kingbridge at home and then visit Wadebridge. Tiverton could also cause an upset as they have to play all of the top three teams at home starting with the Camels next weekend.

National Intermediate Cup (Sat 27th Feb 2pm ko)
Camborne 13 - 19 Old Redcliffians
The Cherry & Whites failed in their attempt to reach the last 8 of the intermediate cup and the difference between the two sides was as close as an unfortunate bounce of a ball in the first few minutes and a off the ball tackle in injury time. The first left Town 7 points in arrears early on the last stopped Joe Parma running through unopposed for what looked like being a certain try under the posts and victory. Saying that the Old Red's did have the lions share of possession and ran the ball well but were also guilty of killing the ball on several occassions stopping Town building up momentum, they received a yellow card for one of their indiscretions in the first half.

Deano presented with the Man of the Match Town secure good line out ball early in first half
Throphy by Fiji International Josh Matavesi
Plus points for Town were the man of the match performance of scrum half Dean Pascoe, who played through the pain barrier with a broken finger he picked up last weekend and the outstanding performance of Lock Jimmy Goldworthy who ran Deano close for the trophy. Another player who gave his all was fellow lock Jon Griffiths who got out of his sick bed to play after suffering from a virus for most of the week such is the determination and dedication of the player.
report;
Camborne’s dream of a Twickenham National Intermediate Cup final appearance are over as their Bristol visitors squeezed through to the last 8 after a game between two evenly matched sides.
Both teams currently top the respective Western Counties tables and only the bounce of the ball separated them on a glorious winter’s afternoon at the Recreation Ground.
On a day when a couple of team errors proved costly ‘Town’s man of the match was all action scrum half Dean Pascoe defying a hand injury with a superb display.
Old Redcliffians made a great start when the home side failed to deal with a 3rd minute high ball allowing right wing Paul Todd to gather and run round under the posts for a soft try. Ross Martin knocked over the straightforward conversion for a 0-7 scoreline.
Soon after Cherry & Whites kicker David Mankee saw a penalty come back off a post but after a string of penalties awarded against the visitors for persistent spoiling tactics the fly half cut the deficit with a 16th minute shot.
Old Reds saw prop Jason Owen sinbinned for killing the ball but down to 14 men went further ahead with a well worked blind side attack bringing a corner try for Todd.
As the interval neared right wing Cameron Bone made an attempted interception on half way, fly hacked the bouncing ball upfield and went on to win the race to touchdown wide out. Mankee slotted the angled conversion to make it 10-12 at the break.
Now playing down the slope with all to play for Camborne hammered at the goal line early in the half but conceded a relieving penalty when driving for the crucial score.
The visitors then put together a sustained period of pressure which was finally rewarded on the hour when the ball was slipped right for centre Henry Goldson to go over. Former Truro fly half Martin stretched the lead with an excellent conversion.
Minutes later Mankee cut the deficit to six points with a straightforward penalty to set up a tense closing period.
With fresh legs on upfront the young home pack laid siege to the visitors line with flanker James Goldsworthy inches short but conceded a 73rd minute penalty to allow Old Reds to clear.
Near the end Martin saw yellow for tugging back full back Joe Parma chasing a kick into wide open space downfield but from the resulting penalty ‘Town’ could not get the score required to sneak the result.

Alan Truscott’s Chairman’s Chat No 8 – 22nd February 2010
I personally cannot recall a season with so many injuries to 1st XV team squad members, particularly amongst the backs. The adage of having ‘strength in depth’ has never been truer and every player used in the 1st XV this season has stepped up to the mark and played a valuable part in our success so far.
January ended with a fine 49 points to nil win over Newquay Hornets (7 tries and 7 immaculate conversions from every angle). Newquay, in 2 games this year, have found it very difficult to cope with our pace and power. In 2 league matches against them we have amassed 101 points!
It was helpful that the 1st team were without a game on 6th February, thus giving some of our injured backs an extra week to recover. However, news that Okehampton defeated Kingsbridge was well received and gave us an ideal reality check that ‘on the road’ we would have some difficult games to focus on in the coming weeks.
Next up a ‘double header’ on 13th / 14th February with an away league match at North Petherton on the Saturday and a home Cornwall Cup tie against Wadebridge on the Sunday. Having worked hard to put ourselves in a good position winning the league now has our priority and this showed in our selection policy over this weekend. We also have a considerable interest in the National Intermediate Cup having reached the last 16, with a home match against Old Redcliffians from Bristol imminent.
North Petherton was a new venue for the club so we travelled into the unknown and found a very hospitable club and good playing surface waiting for us. Injury woes manifested itself again with exciting young wing Tom Notman pulling a calf muscle in the pre-match warm up! Positional changes ensued and after a titanic effort we managed to secure a hard won 13 points to 8 victory. A 3 hour coach journey home followed and was not the best of preparation in order to face Wadebridge the next day. With injuries, unavailability and some key players needing to recover from slight knocks our selection for the cup match reflected this. In the end a committed, stronger Wadebridge team ran out very worthy winners by 40 points to 16. Congratulations to them and I wish them good luck for the rest of this competition.
Reminding ourselves of Kingsbridge’s ‘banana skin’ at Okehampton and also noting Okehampton’s ‘whitewashing’ of Bude by 38 points to nil kept Steve and his squad focussed during the following week for our next league match at their Oaklands ground. Physios Mark and Mandy worked overtime literally to get some of our injured players off the treatment table and out of the treatment room which was becoming far too crowded and far as I was concerned! Extra physio sessions resulted in Joe Parma, Tom Notman and Tom Hinds declaring themselves fit and available for selection. Snow overnight thawed to leave very heavy conditions. We started positively and with 2 tries by Sam Matavesi and Dean Pascoe took an early 12 points lead, but unnecessary penalties gave ex Redruth fly half Mark Scrivener the opportunity to claw Okes back into the game. As conditions under foot deteriorated the game became ‘attritional’ with both packs concentrating on a close quarter ‘pick and drive’ game. A late penalty by Dave Mankee and the match resulted in another determined away performance and a satisfying 15 points to 9 victory. Next up and a break from league rugby and our last 16 National Intermediate Cup match home against Old Redcliffians, who, like us head their Western Counties division.
Our 2nd and 3rd teams need recognition for their excellent form in their respective Cornwall Merit tables. Currently both top their merit tables and I congratulate them on their success. In all club sport your 1st XV is only as strong as your 2nd and 3rd teams and currently all 3 senior teams are enjoying their rugby and eager to maintain their current positions. The challenge now is see it through to the end of the season!
Please don’t forget the Vice Presidents lunch on 13th March – next home league match v Tavistock. Space still available so please ‘sign up’ on the notice board in the lounge bar, then watch the game and afterwards join us in the main bar and watch Scotland v England on the big screen.
Finally our support at home and particularly away has been terrific this season. The players and coaches recognise this and it is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Alan Truscott.

Okehampton 9 - 15 Camborne
Town made to dig deep for win no.18
The Cherry & Whites overcame a determind Okehampton outfit who threw everything at them in a bid to get a result including a lecture for the referee from their coach at half time. Camborne scored tries through Sam Matavesi and Dean Pascoe to give themselves a deserved 3 - 12 interval lead but were put under pressure in the second half as the home side clawed back to 9 - 12. Town's pack who had started well were finding the heavy pitch a problem in the second half until the introduction of Tonkin and Curnow stablised the front row and stopped the Oke's momentum.
A penalty from the reliable boot of David Mankee in the final quarter of the match was enough to restore the confidence of the League leaders as they held on for a good away win.

Camborne 16 - 40 Wadebridge
The Cherry & Whites started this tie with only 5 of the team which played the Camels in the opening match of the season, such is the injury problems the club has at present. On the day Town were outplayed by a side with much more hunger to win than themselves and with errors and missed tackles costing them dear they slipped to the first home defeat in a competative match this season. Camborne who have already used 30 players in the first team squad were forced to hand debut's to 4 players today and had only 2 of the recognised back division available to start.
Although this a big concern for the Cherry & Whites the club will look to bounce back next week in the league when they hope to have a much stronger squad for the trip to Okehampton. Camborne will now have total focus on their push for automatic promotion and moving into the Quarter finals of the National Intermediate Cup with thier last 16 match on the 27th against Old Redcliffians at the REC.
Town did not have much to celebrate in the game today but there were a few plus points, first the performance of James Goldsworthy who was Cambornes man of the match playing at Flanker rather than Lock, taking a lot of line out ball and driving into the opposition at every opportunity. Also the tenacious tackling of Paul Gadsdon and Brett Wakfer, who between them have played less than a dozen games of rugby in the past 2 seasons, they will be a big help in the weeks to come as they gel with the rest of the backs.
-------------------------------------
North Petherton 8 - 13 Camborne
Town hold on for a vital win in a below par performance
Camborne's injury jinx continues, the latest victim is Tom Notman who pulled up with a calf strain in the warm up and could be out of action for 3-4 weeks. This meant a reshuffle in the backs and left Town with just 2 replacements, Laurie Manna moved to full back, his place in the centre was taken by versatile flanker Sam Matavesi which moved James Goldsworthy up from the bench. The Cherry & Whites points came from a Try, coversion and 2 penalty's all in the first half as they led 13 - 5 and although Pethy did'nt threaten the line too much in the second half they had their chances for an upset.
Camborne remain top of the Western Counties league following a hard fought win in Somerset.
The visitors came up against a much improved North Petherton and had to dig deep to grind out their victory.
Yet again ‘Town’ suffered an injury in the warm up seeing full back Tom Notman withdraw to be replaced by Laurie Manna with Sam Matavesi switching to fill in at centre and James Goldsworthy coming in at flanker.
The home side made a dream start going ahead early on with an unconverted corner try.
The Cherry & Whites were not behind for long as a backrow move from a close range scrum saw fit again flanker Ryan Spargo cross for David Mankee to convert to make the score 5-7.
Midway through the half fly half Mankee put his side further in front with a simple penalty.
As the interval neared Mankee was on target with an angled penalty for a 5-13 scoreline at the break.
With wings Cameron Bone and Christian Barbagallo getting through a good deal of work the visitors kept the home side quiet throughout the 3rd quarter.
A home penalty in the closing stages reduced the deficit to only 5 points but Camborne defended resolutely to keep their line intact.

Saltash Res 15
Camborne 3rds 27
Camborne made the long trip to Saltash worthwhile as another fine team performance brought a win that stretches their lead at the top of the Cornwall Merit Table.
For the winners full back Stuart Woods, prop Adam Coombes, No 8 Sean Oates, centre Scott Powell and prop Ben Walters scored tries with wing Dan Isaacs adding a conversion.
The Cherry & Whites are Tops!
Camborne's season just goes from strength to strength with not only the 1st team topping the Western Counties South League but tables released today show the 2nd & 3rd 15's also sitting proudly on top of their respective Merit Tables. Here are some stats for you, between the 3 teams they have played 35 matches with 31 Wins and only 3 defeats and 1 draw, they have scored over 1100 points, that's an amazing average of 32 points per game and conceeded under 9 points a match.
They have acheived this despite a catalogue of serious injuries to key players throughout the season, this has disrupted team selection almost every week. The success Town has enjoyed is not just down to it's players but also to the dedication of it's back room staff, coaches and two very hard working physio's who have had their work cut out patching up players to ensure we can put 3 sides out each week.

NEW SIGNINGS BOOST FOR 'TOWN'
With 3 months of the season remaining and our continuing ‘interest’ in 3 competitions the league, National Cup and County Cup I am pleased to announce that 2 experienced players, Brett Wakfer and Paul Gadsdon have re registered with the club.

Sponsors Happy
At the recent defeat of Newquay by Camborne at the recreation ground the match day sponsors were Trevaskis Farm.
Not only did they enjoy the win but they were well catered for before the game during a pre match buffet lunch.
Trevaskis have been main club sponsors for the past 2 seasons providing important support to the club at a time when much improvement at the club has been made not only on the playing side but also its general standing in the community
In addition many old players were present as guests of the Eustice family due to the family connection with the club. Mr Eustice senior is an ex player and he took the opportunity to invite along some old team mates ! A most enjoyable day was had by all.

Camborne 49 - 0 Newquay Hornets
Town give one of their best performances of the season to defeat the Hornets
Camborne reinforced their position at the top of the Western Counties league with a seven try demolition of the Hornets at the Recreation Ground.
An injury in the warm up saw centre Tom Hinds withdraw to be replaced by Christian Barbagallo and the youngster did not let the Cherry & Whites down. Outstanding in a fine team performance for the home side on the day were skipper Dave Roberts, stalwart forwards Martin Woolcock and Ryan Smith plus livewire wing Tom Notman.
As early as the 4th minute ‘Town’ were in front when scrum half Dean Pascoe made a half break and off loaded to David Mankee who skipped through the cover to touch down a try that he also converted.
Newquay to their credit then withstood the onslaught for the remainder of the 1st quarter but slipped further behind on 24 minutes when fly half Mankee bagged his 2nd try after great approach work by James Rapson which he again converted well.
As the interval neared full back Rapson showed his strength to stretch over following a lovely inside pass from lock John Griffiths. Sadly he injured a shoulder in the act of touching down leaving the field before Mankee converted with an excellent kick for a 21-0 score line.
Early in the 2nd half Camborne went out of sight with an unstoppable forward surge from a lineout catch and drive ending with the first of a brace of tries for No 8 Roberts. Mankee added the extras with another well judged kick.
On the hour a period of incessant pressure involving interpassing between Cherry & White forwards and backs gave right wing Cameron Bone the opportunity to stroll over near the posts with Mankee again converting.
Minutes later good work by Bone on the flank brought a position from where the home pack again drove for the line with replacement flanker James Goldsworthy on hand to touch down. Mankee’s well judged conversion made the score 42-0.
Near the end Roberts went over for his 2nd try storming through the overworked visiting defence leaving Mankee to knock over his 7th successive conversion to finish with an impressive 24 point personal tally. The only downside for Town was the injury sustained by Rapson, the dislocation was the second the player has suffered in the last three weeks and this time it was the left shoulder which took the impact. He is likely to be out of action for up to 4 weeks and so will probably miss the League and Cup double header in a fortnight.

Minehead Barbarians 5 - 20 Camborne
Understrength Town made to work hard for the victory,
Late withdrawals and injuries gave league debuts to four players for Town at Minehead today, Christian Barbagallo, Jonathan Cook, Martin Goldsworthy and Sean Oates all made first appearances of the season. Camborne had to reshuffle almost it's entire backline for their trip to Somerset, with some players out of position and new untested partnerships being tried.
Late changes included, Adam Notman (Back) Tom Hinds (Hamstring) Shane Woods (leg) David Mankee (work) & James Goldsworthy (hip) all of whom joined previous casualties Joe Parma (hamstring) Ryan Spargo (knee) James Rapson (shoulder) Robert Floyd (knee) & Andrew Smith (neck). This is without doubt one of the worst injury lists ever to have hit the Cherry & Whites and it shows what tremendous Character, Determination, Team Spirit and Will to Win there is at the club to still be riding high at the top of the league.
Today's line up included Sam Matavesi (flanker) playing at centre, Laurie Manna (centre) playing at fly half Tom Notman (wing) at full back for the second week in a row and Christian Barbagallo (scrum half) at centre. Despite a promising start Town found themselves 5 points down after 20 minutes following a Minehead break from their own 22 with the left wing touching down in the corner. Camborne levelled on the half hour after well worked forward pressure led to a try for the Cherry & Whites Captain and man of the match David Roberts, Matavesi missed the conversion.

Early pressure from Town The scrum which led to the first Try
With Town finding handling moves breaking down due to the lack of cohesion between the new partnerships, they changed tactics in the second half, when a more forward orientated game was introduced. This payed dividends straight away with the home side being put on the back foot and Town dominating possession and territory, which lead to a push over try for Bartle in the 51st minute. Now the Cherry & Whites had the upper hand and were constantly pressurising the Barbarians who were relying on scraps to create chances, and to their credit they did have several promising moves which were repelled by the staunch Town defence. It was only a matter of time before Camborne got their 3rd score and this came curtisy of another driven over try for Bartle just after the hour, the convertion was again missed leaving the score at 5 - 15.
The victory was ensured when David Roberts was (you guessed it) driven over near the corner flag with just under 10 minutes remaining. Both sides had chances to score after this, Minehead having one of there best spells of possession in the match keeping Town pinned in their own half for several minutes. But Town stood firm and were resolute in defence determind not to conceed again, as they broke free to almost score at the death with just a knock on ending the move.
There were several players who had outstanding games today, Dave Roberts (2 tries) who's breaks from the base of the scrum were to numerious to mension, Scott Macdonald who made the hard yards and recycled a lot of good ball, Jon Griffiths who was a constant thorn in Mineheads side, Sean Oates who rolled back the years and tackled everything that moved, Johnny Cook who made several good runs through the opposition, Sam Bartle (2 tries) who was everywhere from running back kick off's to winning loose ball on the deck and Cameron Bone who took on the kicking from hand role and also made a lot of yardage with his hard running.

NATIONAL INTERMEDIATE CUP NEWS
I have been informed by an officer of the South West Competition Committee that the next round of the RFU National Intermediate Cup on Saturday 27th February apparently guarantees Camborne a home draw. In this 'last 16' round we are due to play the winners of the match between Old Redcliffians and either Berry Hill or Drybrook. These 3 teams all play in Western Counties North with 'Old Reds' currently top of the table having won 12 of their 14 matches. A home draw is obviously of considerable advantage and should encourage great interest and support on the day.
SATURDAY 27th FEBRUARY ~ make a note of this date!
Additionally, the postponed league match away to Devonport Services has been re-scheduled by the RFU for Saturday 17th April thus extending the league season by 1 week. It now seems that the league 'play offs' will be on Saturday 24th April which coincides with the date for the National Intermediate Cup semi finals!! In the Cornwall Cup quarter finals we have been drawn home to Wadebridge Camels. Date of this encounter has yet to be confirmed.

Camborne 13 - 5 Kingsbridge
Town ease past Kingsbridge to go 3 points clear,
The Cherry & Whites held the upper hand for most of this top of the table encounter as Kingsbridge huffed and Puffed and worked doggidly but never really posed a serious threat to Camborne. The visitors only score came whilst Town were down to 13 players with lock Griffiths and Fly half Mankee in the sin bin, and even that was a controvertial effort with what looked like two forward passes in the move that led to it.
The afternoon did not start well for Camborne when Joe Parma, who was due to play his first game for 6 weeks pulled up in the warm up with a tweaked hamstring. This is not felt to be a serious injury setback, but today may have been slightly too soon for his comeback so he will be assessed in the week before a decision is made about his return. So with 7 try Parma and 8 try Spargo missing before kick off Town knew they would have to be on top of their game to win against the only unbeaten side in the league.
The Cherry & Whites dug deep and put in some superb big hits to deny their Devon visitors the chance to build up any momentum and create any real clear cut chances. It shows the character of the side that despite the building injury list, the pressure, conditions and the opposition they still won such a vital encounter without ever looking in danger of defeat.
Report,
Camborne deservedly triumphed in this top of the table clash taking Kingsbridge’s unbeaten Western Counties record in the process.
“Town” suffered an unfortunate start as full back Joe Parma was forced to withdraw following a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury during the final warm up.
After a quick reshuffle the Cherry & Whites went on to give a wholehearted and committed team performance in atrocious conditions.
In particular there were huge games in Camborne’s cause from no 8 Dave Roberts, lock John Griffiths and dogged scrum half Dean Pascoe.
Playing down the slope the home side were on the backfoot for most of the 1st quarter but went ahead when David Mankee knocked over a 17 minute well judged penalty from 35 metres. Soon after Pascoe astutely chipped over the visitors backs for Mankee to run onto the kick, back on and dive on the ball over the goal line. Mankee’s conversion from near the posts gave his team an important 10 point lead.
Briefly Camborne were reduced to 13 players with Griffiths and Mankee sinbinned and Kingsbridge capitalised with an unconverted try.
With the rain relenting in the 2nd period fly half Mankee booted a 48 minute penalty to put the Cherry&Whites a critical two scores in front.

Superb home tackling then kept the visitors at a comfortable distance as much of the remainder of the game was played out in the middle 3rd of the field.
Near the end Mankee saw a kickable penalty sail wide but Camborne were not to be denied a victory that could be significant come the season’s end.

Camborne v Kingsbridge
Two weeks we have had the "Truth in Redruth" as the Reds faced the Blacks in their mid table 1st division encounter, this weekend we have "Revenge at the Rec" in the Western Counties Top of the table clash. Both teams will be looking for revenge, Town for their 13 - 9 defeat at High House earlier in the season and Kingsbridge for the 19 - 0 home defeat a fortnight ago plus the 55 - 0 defeat they suffered last season at the Recreation Ground.
Town have the edge if you look at the statistics over the four meetings between the clubs in the last 2 seasons, although each side has won 2 games Camborne have scored 91 points to Kingsbridge's 27 with Town preventing Kings scoring in two of the matches. With 3 of the 4 games having been played at High House the Cornish league leaders will rightly feel confident of getting the win they need to keep the pressure on at the top. But nothing will be taken for granted as Coach Steve Larkins thoroughly prepares his squad to face the only unbeaten team in the league, but as usual he will want to do it in style so it should be quite a contest.
With no rugby being played in the county last weekend and the importance of this match the Cherry & Whites are anticipating a large crowd (weather permitting) at the Rec on Saturday. Full team news will be issued on Thursday after training and fitness tests have taken place, but Town are expecting most of the squad to be available for selection.
The forwards who were so dominant in the cup tie don't appear to have any new injury concerns and hope to be strengthened further if leading try scorer flanker Ryan Spargo passes a fitness test. As for the backs the knock sustained by James Rapson looks like keeping him out of action for a couple more weeks, but centre Laurie Manna who also picked up an injury in the same game should recover in time to play. Full back Joe Parma is also expected to return after being out for the last 6 weeks with hamstring trouble as is leading points scorer fly half David Mankee who was unavailable last week. Scrum half Dean Pascoe who is recovering from an ankle injury picked up at Withycombe has responding well to treatment and will be included in the squad.
The Kick off is 2.30, The place is the Recreation Ground Camborne, so come and see this full blooded Cornwall v Devon Head to Head where Points, Pride & Passion mean more than pounds, shillings & pence.

Mankee, Pascoe & Parma all fit again for the Cherry & Whites clash with Kingsbridge and Rapson who misses out.

Kingsbridge RFC 0 - 19 Camborne (Devon v Cornwall Final)
Camborne not only became the first team to beat Kingsbridge this season but also stopped them scoring in the process as they advance to the last 16 of the Intermediate Cup.
The cherry & Whites travelled to this fixture with their top 3 points scorers (who have contributed 211 points between them) missing which makes the victory that much more special. It shows the strength in depth this young Camborne team have and will give the side a huge confidence boost ahead of the home league fixture between the teams in 2 weeks.
Hinds & Woods make a break Try scorer Notman on the burst Roberts & the Notmans stop the run
Kingsbridge knew they were in for a tough afternoon at the first scrum when their pack was driven backwards as Town's dominant forwards showed they were up for the challange. Camborne went ahead after 10 minutes when stand in Full Back Tom Notman (switching positions do to a reshuffle in the backs with Mankee dropping out) made a superb run from deep, breaking four tackles to score near the posts. Shane Woods who took over Mankee's place at Fly Half also took on the kicking responsibilities and landed the conversion to make it 0 - 7.
The Cherry & Whites put in a workmanlike performance giving little chance for the home team to create anything and were rewarded for their efforts with a second try on the hour. The score went to centre Laurie Manna who rounded off a good handling move showing the home defence a clean pair of heels as he sprinted in, Woods again added the extra's for a 0 - 14 scoreline.
With eight minutes to go Town got their 3rd try when a move which started in their own 22 was finished off out wide by Adam Notman (brother of Tom), the convertion was missed leaving the score at 0 - 19. Kingsbridge's best effort came when the home forwards drove over the line but the referee was unsighted and judged the ball to be held up.
Shane Woods hits a conversion Laurie Manna races over for the 2nd Goldsworthy barges through
The only downside to this excellent victory for the Cherry & Whites was an injury to Scrum Half James Rapson who fell and jarred his shoulder on the rock hard pitch. This adds to Town's growing injury list but after an away performance like this the confidence in the squad is so high that it will take more than a few injuries to stop the Cherry & White juggernaut's progress this season.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camborne 5 - 12 Redruth
Camborne just come up short against the Reds,
The cherry & Whites missed their leading try scorers in this game against a strong Redruth outfit which was certainly no Holiday 15 or Development team as it has been in recent years. A good crowd of 1200+ saw two fully committed teams play some attacking rugby which was a lot more entertaining than last season encounter and showed how Town has progressed in the last 12 months.
Camborne put up stout resistance in the Annual Boxing Day clash at the Recreation Ground but the honours went to Redruth outscoring the home side by two tries to one.
Last season Redruth were convincing winners but with a much improved Camborne flying high in Western Counties and over 100 years of Mining Division tradition this was always set to be a close encounter.
In front of a four figure holiday crowd the Reds with the former Mounts Bay scrum half Greg Goodfellow lining up behind a powerful forward pack began purposefully with the advantage of the slope in the first half.
Playing close to their forwards with experienced centre Steve Evans punching holes in midfield the visitors had a number of 1st quarter opportunities but good home tackling particularly by centre Tom Hinds and knock ons close in ensured a tense stalemate continued.
On their 1st visit to the Reds half Camborne put together a 24th minute attack that ended with dangerous left winger Tom Notman spilling a pass with the line in sight.
On the half hour visiting full back Chris Morris sped down the right flank and his chip ahead created a dangerous position deep in the Cherry & Whites territory. From the ensuing scrum Redruth recycled ball a couple of times after Evans’ initial burst and No 8 Tom Duncan took a short pass to power over near the posts. Fly half Adam Hosking converted for a 0-7 scoreline.
Before half time a brief period of home pressure came to nothing but just after the break the home side came to life. No 8 David Roberts who alongside scrum half James Rapson had huge defensive games for Camborne intercepted on halfway and took play to the Reds 22 with a long punt. Camborne were awarded a penalty at the resulting ruck which fly half David Mankee booted to the scoreboard corner. The forwards obliged with line out possession and hard working flanker Sam Matavesi touched down from the driving maul to cut the deficit to only 2 points. Mankee slipped as he attempted the conversion.
With all to play for the visitors continued to hold the upper hand with skipper Chris Fuca and England Counties prop Peter Joyce always prominent in their disciplined and streetwise forward effort. With play becoming a little disjointed as both teams made a string of changes it looked likely the next score would prove decisive.
So it was on 65 minutes when the game’s outstanding threequarter Morris beat several defenders as he ran back a Camborne clearance kick only for Roberts to make a last ditch tackle on Fuca. The Reds then went three times for the line from close range scrums before Duncan fed Nick Simmons who had taken over from Goodfellow and the youngster dived over.
The game was played out to its conclusion in pouring rain with the visitors hammering on the ‘Town’ line but tenacious home defence including a try saving tackle by wing Cameron Bone prevented any further score. On the final whistle Notman hared down field in pursuit of a relieving kick but the Reds were able to scramble back in defence.

Withycombe 7 - 37 Camborne
The Cherry & Whites comprehensive victory ensures top spot over Christmas & New Year.
Camborne's combined a workman like performance in the the first half with a blistering final quarter to master the conditions and home side in this Devon v Cornwall encounter. Town ran in 5 tries to take their tally to the season to 64 in 15 matches as they continue to entertain supporters with their attacking, free flowing style of play which coach Steve Larkins has instilled in the side.
Has anyone seen this man's Yak?
report;
Camborne ensured they ended 2009 at the top of Western Counties with a convincing win in Devon.
With leaders Kingsbridge game off due to bad weather this game went ahead on a firm playing surface on a bitterly cold afternoon.
For ‘Town’ Mark Tonkin came in for a 1st start of the season at hooker and did not let the side down. Skipper Dave Roberts made a number of his trademark charges and prop Scott Macdonald and full back James Rapson shone in a fine all round team performance.
The visitors built up a 6-0 lead inside the 1st quarter with fly half David Mankee landing a brace of routine penalties.
A strike against the head by Tonkin set up a counter attacking opportunity with scrum half Dean Pascoe and Mankee combining on the blindside to set wing Shane Woods free on the left flank with the youngster duly obliging with the corner try. After receiving a blow to the head in the move which led to the try prop Leigh Hocking, who had already been treated for an ankle injury was then replaced by Nigel Endean on 35 minutes.
Lee Hocking polaxed in the background Town on one of their many driving mauls
Leading by eleven points at the break the Cherry & Whites soon extended their advantage early in the 2nd half. From a training ground move at a lineout Roberts burst clean through on a 25 metre run to the goal line to make the score 0-16.
With Town down to 14 players after a yellow card for Pascoe, basement side Withycombe hit back to their credit with their forwards touching down a pushover try well converted from a difficult angle.
Going into the final quarter Camborne ran in a 3rd try to put themselves firmly in control. A close range penalty was taken quickly for the pack to drive for the line and Macdonald was on hand to barge over near the posts. With the straightforward conversion Mankee made the score 7-23.
In the closing stages as the home pack tired the visitors went up a gear to run in two further tries. First a sweeping long range handling move involving Rapson, centre Laurie Manna and Mankee created space for right wing Cameron Bone to race over. Mankee was on target with a well judged conversion.
On the final whistle Pascoe darted through the middle of a line out 30 metres from the home line and replacement flanker Sam Matavesi was on hand to take the scoring pass and go over with Mankee’s conversion completing a resounding victory. To their credit Withycombe never stopped trying and gave everything they had for the whole 80+ minutes, which made the margin of victory so much more satisfying for Town knowing they had to earn every point.
If there were a man of the match award for Town it would have gone to the whole team as everyone played their part well in this victory. However a few players had exceptional games including centres Laurie Manna & Tom Hinds who put so much pressure on the opposition they had to resort to kicking most of their posession away. Also the whole front row including replacement Nigel Endean who not only scrumaged well all match but also took the game to the opposition at every opportunity and put in some big hits, and once again David Roberts led by example.

Camborne 43 - 10 Bude RFC
Notman bags 4 tries as Town cut loose in the second half to down Bude
Cherry & Whites wing Tom Notman gave an excellent performance scoring 2 tries in each half to deservidly pick up the man of the match trophy in Town's victory over a determined Bude side at the Recreation Ground this afternoon. This was another very good team effort by Camborne against a Bude team that never gave up defensively and ran the ball at every oppertunity.

Notman celebrates his 4th Try Scoring his second, a good solo effort
Camborne ran in six tries for an emphatic victory in their last home Western Counties game of 2009 to keep up the pressure on leaders Kingsbridge.
It was a glorious winters afternoon that young left wing Tom Notman will have cause to remember as the Colts flyer finished the game with four tries to his name.
For ‘Town’ lock Ryan Smith returned after several weeks out whilst Martin Woolcock started in the backrow. Cameron Bone came into the starting line up and did well on the right flank with Shane Woods filling the No 15 jersey.
Once again there were big games upfront from lock Jon Griffiths, prop Scott Macdonald and skipper David Roberts whilst centre Tom Hinds’ running was a handful particularly in the 1st half.

Tom Hinds on the burst replacement Lee Hocking making an impact Cameron Bone makes a break
The Cherry & Whites made a dream start putting together phases of attack from the kick off that ended with a rare try for loose head Nigel Endean. David Mankee converted with a well judged kick for 7-0.
Bude were lively in the opening quarter soon levelling at 7-7 but on 13 minutes after a searing Hinds break Notman bagged his opening try doing well to squeeze over in the corner.
Midway through the half the youngster raced from deep up the left touchline before finally being held near the Bude line. From the ensuing pressure the ball was worked left again for Notman to go over for his brace. Fly half Mankee converted with another excellent kick to make the score 19-7.
Before half time the visitors reduced the arrears with a close range penalty but soon after the interval Mankee cancelled those 3 points out with his own effort from in front of the posts.
A period of sustained pressure then saw Notman complete his hat trick with a 48th minute individual effort cutting inside from the flank to cross near the posts. Mankee’s straightforward conversion put his side almost out of sight at 29-10.
Ryan Spargo drives through the Bude defence Robbo makes one of his trade mark runs
On the hour more slick Camborne handling involving Bone and Mankee created another opportunity for Notman and the teenager duly went over for his 4th touchdown which was again well converted by Mankee.
Almost immediately Town’s pack got back in on the try scoring act driving for the line from a lineout close in for flanker Ryan Spargo to touchdown. Mankee knocked over his 5th conversion of the game taking the score to 43-10.
Near the end the visitors’ misery was compounded with the sending off of hooker Dave Risdon for a head-butt on Dean Pascoe.
Camborne now look forward to hosting the traditional Boxing Day clash with local rivals Redruth with a 2.30pm kick off.

Camborne R.F.C. awarded “The Tommy May” trophy from Cornwall Referee’s Society.
Alan Truscott, C.R.F.C. Chairman, was delighted to accept this award at the Lowenac Hotel, Camborne recently on behalf of the club. This trophy is awarded annually to the rugby club, voted by the referees, which during the year regularly satisfies certain criteria regarding “hospitality” towards visiting match officials. These criteria include pre-match contact, pre-match reception, ground preparation and club facilities, post match reception and general comments regarding attitude shown by the club to the referee on match days. Ian Hamilton, president of the Cornwall Rugby Referee’s Society said, “Congratulations to Camborne on winning this year’s award which was thoroughly deserved”.

Truro 11 - 11 Camborne
Cherry & Whites held by Truro in appauling conditions,
Camborne could not turn the superior possession or territorial advantage into points at rain soaked Truro this afternoon. Town dominated for long periods in the game but failed to put the point on the board, in fact Truro led for most of the match until a late Mankee penalty saved Town's blushes.
Camborne snatched a deserved share of the spoils at the death in a hard fought Cornish derby played in atrocious conditions at St Clement’s Hill.
‘Town’ will reflect on two sin binning decisions that forced them to play one short for a quarter of an already difficult match.
Lacking injured full back Joe Parma the Cherry & Whites faced the wind in the first half as persistent rain fell. The determined home side were given a good start when fly half Ross Martin sent over a 5th minute penalty.
Camborne then took the game to Truro dominating field position and mounting a series of attacks through their forwards. Finally the pressure told on 19 minutes with the pack surging for the line for lock Jon Griffiths to touch down for a 3-5 scoreline.
The lead was short lived however as Martin fired over a well struck penalty moments later to give his side a slender advantage.
As the interval neared the City club attacked the visitors’ line and Martin delivered a well weighted cross kick for advancing left wing Mark Lea to win the race to touchdown.
Trailing 11-5 with the deteriorating conditions hampering constructive play Camborne looked to their kicking game to dominate 2nd half territory. After a period of attack that never really threatened the home line they settled for a 52nd minute penalty from the boot of fly half David Mankee to reduce the arrears.
Resolute play by the home forwards continued to frustrate the Cherry & Whites as the game reached the closing stages with a 2nd away defeat of the season looking increasingly likely. Finally however a 78th minute line out infringement gave Mankee a difficult penalty chance and the fly half duly delivered with a superb strike to level matters at 11-11.
There was still time for several more phases of play but there was no further scoring and the efforts of both sides in battling the elements ended with a Western Counties point a piece.

Camborne 36 - 0 Tiverton RFC
Town keep a clean sheet as they ease past Tivvi in the gloom.
The Cherry Whites took their wins tally at the Rec this season to 8 as they kept their 100% home record in the ever worsening conditions this afternoon. In a match which almost got abandoned mid-way through the second half due to bad light Town ran in 6 unanswered tries through Matavesi 2, Manna, Roberts, Parma and Notman. This result keeps Camborne top of the table and with Kingsbridge just pipping Penryn 11 - 7 also increases the Cherry & Whites already superior points difference.
There were some very good performances right through the side today, Jon Griffiths put in a lot of work and was always a thorn in Tivvy's side and Matavesi was his usual all action self, picking up 2 deserved tries. But for his all round handling game, (in poor conditions) line out work (taking a lot of Tivvi ball) and attitude the man of the match award went to lock James Goldsworthy. In his first season playing senior rugby for Town this 18's game is improving week on week, which is due in no small part to the help and guidence he has received from fellow lock Jon Griffiths.
Camborne remain top of Western Counties on points difference following a convincing win in horrendous conditions at the Recreation Ground.
With persistent rain falling throughout ‘Town’ gave a wholehearted display with scrum half Dean Pascoe, No 8 David Roberts plus locks Jon Griffiths and young James Goldsworthy particularly prominent.
After a scrappy opening quarter the home side took a deserved 24th minute lead. Pascoe gained good field position with an astute kick and from the ensuing catch and drive flanker Sam Matavesi emerged from under the pile of bodies after the impressive forward surge to claim a try. David Mankee converted with a well judged kick for 7-0.
Before half time the stubborn Tiverton defence was breached for the 2nd time. Skipper Roberts picked up from a close range scrum to send full back Joe Parma sliding over on the blindside to score in the turnstile corner.
With conditions deteriorating further in the 2nd half playing down the slope the Cherry & Whites pinned the Devon side in their own territory for long periods.
On the hour strong runs by Roberts and centre Tom Hinds gained good ground before the ball was worked swiftly left for centre Laurie Manna to go over wide out. Fly half Mankee converted majestically from the touchline for an emphatic 19-0 scoreline.
Now going up a gear in search of more points Camborne piled on the pressure. With a little over 10 minutes remaining the hardworking Roberts got a deserved touchdown powering through midfield to score at the posts with Mankee knocking over the simple conversion.
On 76 minutes Matavesi dotted down a carbon copy of his earlier try with the forward surge unstoppable from fully 20 metres out.
Near the end the Cherry & Whites bagged their 6th touchdown of a satisfying day at the office when young left wing Tom Notman did well to squeeze over in the corner.

Tavistock RFC 8 - 13 Camborne
Town's narrow win enough to take them to the top of the League
The Cherry & Whites top the table for the first this season after a victory at Tavistock and Kingsbridge's match at Okehampton was called of due to the adverse weather conditions. Town were behind for most of this game and with less than 10 minutes to go trailed Tavistock by 8 - 3, and an upset looked to be on the cards. But if there's one thing this side don't do it's give up, the determination and never say die attitude that runs through the whole club this season is tremendous and a credit to all the players and coaching staff. The break through came with just 8 minutes remaining via a try from Tom Notman which David Mankee converted and the result confirmed after a late Mankee penalty sealed it for the Cherry & Whites.
Match report
Camborne came from behind to complete a hard fought win in Devon that takes them to the top of the Western Counties table.
Lacking holidaying skipper David Roberts and with Sam Matavesi at Murrayfield supporting brother Josh on his Fiji international debut ‘Town’ reshuffled their back row with Ben Cook and stalwart Martin Woolcock restored. Also without prop Scott Macdonald (back) centre Laurie Manna (shoulder) and long term injury victim wing Rob Floyd (knee) the Cherry & Whites continue to ring the changes with there very capable squad.
Facing the strong wind and slope in the first half the Cherry & Whites defended resolutely to keep the Tavistock forwards at bay.
The home side went ahead with a 20th minute penalty but could not breach the visiting defence until centre Joe Kaminski went over as the interval neared.
Turning around 8 points in arrears Camborne soon reduced the deficit with a well struck David Mankee penalty shot.
With skipper for the day Jon Griffiths to the fore the visitors gradually got on top, duly gaining the all important score with a little over 10 minutes remaining. First prop Leigh Hocking and then centre Tom Hinds made good ground to gain field position. From the ensuing close range line out industrious scrum half Dean Pascoe broke through feeding on to wing Tom Notman who powered over. Fly half Mankee added the tricky conversion for an 8-10 scoreline.
In the closing stages Mankee coolly booted another penalty to ensure a narrow but deserved victory.
Camborne will be without a game this Saturday as scheduled opponents Stithians have conceded the Skinner’s Cornwall Cup 1st Round tie due to take place at the Recreation Ground.

Camborne 27 - 3 Penryn RFC
The Cherry & Whites have to much fire power for the Borough,
Even though Town threw away a few excellent try scoring opportunities they still comfortably beat Penryn with something to spare.
This was a very good all round team performance from Camborne both in attack and defence but it must be said the 15 - 0 half time score could have been doubled if the finishing had been more clinical.
The game was however was not a one sided contest with the Borough mounting several usful attackes, most of which stemmed from full back Chris Mann, which left Town defending resoultely close to the line on a few occasions. The determined way Camborne held their opponents up just short of the try line was very heartening indeed and showed a great deal of commitment from the Cherry & Whites.
The home team certainly had more will to win than the visitors, nothing proved this more than Penryn's decision to kick for goal from a penalty given just 15 mtrs out with the scores at 20 - 0 and 25 minutes still remaining.
The Man of the Match award went to Captain David Roberts for an outstanding all round performance, but once again there were a few other players who could have picked up the trophy, none more so than centre Tom Hinds who had one of his best matches for the Cherry & Whites making several excellent breaks and putting in some superb tackles.
Match Report
Camborne’s cutting edge behind the scrum proved decisive as they ran in four tries to comprehensively defeat Penryn in this local derby clash.
Lacking John Griffiths upfront the home side reshuffled their pack recalling experienced props Scott Macdonald and Nigel Endean to their starting line up.
For the Cherry & Whites skipper David Roberts had a huge game at number 8 deservedly taking the man of the match accolades with the industrious Macdonald and centre Tom Hinds not far behind in a fine team performance.
Three times in the first half only good one on one tackles by Borough full back Chris Mann prevented tries and when the home line came under heavy pressure once in each period of the game resolute defence from the pack kept the goal line intact.
In tricky conditions the visitors had the 1st opportunity to put points on the board but Taron Peacock saw a 6th minute penalty hit a post.
Fit again David Mankee then opened the scoring for ‘Town’ on 16 minutes landing a monster penalty shot from near the halfway line.
On the half hour a Mankee penalty punt to the corner brought Camborne good field positon and when the forward surge from the lineout catch and drive was halted Hinds took a short pass to power over for an 8-0 lead.
After Mann’s heroics, as the interval neared the Cherry & Whites put together a slick handling move involving Roberts, Macdonald, Hinds and Laurie Manna ending with lively Colt’s wing Tom Notman cutting inside to go over for a deserved 1st Senior try. Fly half Mankee’s well judged conversion made the interval scoreline 15-0.
Early in the 2nd half the impressive Hinds broke through the visiting defence releasing centre Manna who’s well timed pass left to Shane Woods allowed the winger to scorch over for a well worked try leaving ‘Town’ 20 points up and almost out of sight.
Penryn to their credit then came much more into the game enjoying a good spell of territory and possession that was finally rewarded with a 64th minute penalty from scrum half Peacock.
Late on as conditions deteriorated further Manna breached the overworked visiting cover to set up an opportunity for pacy full back Joe Parma to race clear from 30 metres for the final try with Woods adding the extras to seal victory.

Camborne 30 - 14 Okehampton
Camborne fell Oke's to keep up pressure at the top
Camborne made it eight wins from nine matches in Western Counties as they worked hard to defeat a spirited Okehampton at the Recreation Ground.
For the Cherry & Whites who gave young wing Tom Notman his full debut eighteen points in as many 2nd half minutes ensured victory.
After a scoreless first quarter the home side went ahead with a 22nd minute solo blind side try from full back Joe Parma.
Almost immeditatley a wayward clearance kick was run back with purpose by the visitors earning them a converted try and a 7-5 lead.
On the half hour ‘Town’ went back in front with a try by flanker Sam Matavesi from an unstoppable break in field off the back of the forwards from a line out catch and drive. Fly half Shane Woods slotted the tricky conversion for a 12-7 half time scoreline.
Now playing down the slope Camborne capitalised soon after the break when skipper Dave Roberts picked up and crashed through the Okehampton defence before being halted on the try line. Flanker Ryan Spargo seized the loose ball to go over for another poacher’s try which Woods did well to convert.
Soon after from more good field position the visitors were caught offside in front of their posts with Woods kicking the resulting penalty for a 15 point cushion.
On the hour ‘Town’ went out of sight as centre Tom Hinds made ground and sent co centre Laurie Manna racing down the flank to touchdown in the scoreboard corner.
A 63rd minute Woods penalty from the identical spot to his success minutes earlier increased the lead to 30-7 before the lively visitors bagged a deserved 2nd converted try to complete the scoring with 15 minutes remaining.

Camborne 34 - 9 North Petherton
Town keep up their winning ways with a comfortable victory over North Petherton scoring 6 Tries on the way.
Camborne showed their strength in depth as their much changed starting line-up convincingly overcame their Somerset visitors at the Recreation Ground.
On the day it was a superb first half showing from ‘Town’ including five tries that allowed them to build up an unassailable lead.
For the Cherry & Whites skipper David Roberts had a fine game making constant inroads with his determined running whilst lock Jon Griffiths dominated the tight exchanges.
After the visitors had booted an early penalty Camborne surged back down field and following a period of forward pressure hooker Sam Bartle was driven over wide out. Shane Woods in for the injured David Mankee converted from the touchline.
Midway through the half Woods’ neat break brought good field position from where full back Joe Parma broke a tackle on the blindside and waltzed over for a try that the young fly half did well to convert.
Straight from the restart a barnstorming charge by No 8 Roberts launched an attack that was finally halted in the scoreboard corner. Intense forward pressure ensued and Bartle was eventually driven over again for 19-3.
A 35th minute North Petherton scrum deep in their own territory disintegrated under the ‘Town’ pack’s onslaught leaving flanker Ryan Spargo to oblige with a soft try.
With the interval nearing the home side scored their best try of the afternoon when left wing Cameron Bone rounded off a sweeping handling move featuring good play by centre James Rapson to make the score 29-3.
There was still time before the break for the visitors to reduce the arrears with a 2nd penalty.
The game then deteriorated somewhat in a scrappy 3rd quarter before Camborne added a sixth try on 65 minutes. Bartle and Griffiths swapped passes off the front of a line out before releasing Spargo who romped over for a deserved 2nd touchdown.
Near the end North Petherton gained some consolation with a 3rd well struck penalty from centre Tom Williams.
Camborne entertain Okehampton next Saturday with an earlier kick off time of 2.30pm.

The Man of the match award went to Ryan Spargo who had a superb game scoring 2 of the tries but to be honest the trophy could have gone to one of half a dozen players who all put in excellent performances including David Roberts who gained more ground than anyone on the field, Jon Griffiths who was once again a dominating presence in the second row or Sam Bartle who is going from strength to strength each week. Others who also deserve a mension Shane Woods who came in and did a great job at fly half, Joe Parma who not only put in several of his trade mark mazy runs but also kicked very astutley and Cameron Bone who had one of his best games for Town making some telling breaks and scoring a very good try.

Newquay Hornets 20
Camborne 52
Camborne produced some superb bouts of handling to remain in 2nd place in Western Counties by comprehensively defeating the Hornets at the Sports Centre.
The Cherry & Whites saw three players limp off to finish the final quarter with only twelve men preventing victory by an even bigger margin.
Man of the match Joe Parma started the rout as early as the 5th minute as he jinked his way over from Tom Hinds’ neat switch pass for David Mankee to convert.
The home side managed a 15th minute penalty but midway through the half right wing Rob Floyd went racing down the flank before cutting inside to touchdown with Mankee converting for 3-14.
Soon after ‘Town’ gained good field position and from an attacking scrum fifteen metres out powerful No 8 Dave Roberts picked up to charge over through he would be tacklers.
On twenty six minutes the outstanding Parma launched another wave of attack that ended with Floyd completing his brace under the posts. Fly half Mankee’s simple conversion made the score 3-26.
Another superb Floyd run saw him injured in the desperate Newquay tackle with Dean Pascoe coming on as replacement and from their only spell of 1st half pressure the Hornets bagged a converted try for a flattering 10-26 interval scoreline.
In the 3rd quarter the Cherry & Whites put together some exceptional rugby to go out of sight notching three tries in a six minute purple patch. First to cross was scrum half James Rapson darting down the blindside after another Parma thrust was halted. Next Parma and skipper Roberts swapped passes in a sixty metre counter attack that saw Parma clean through to bag a deserved 2nd try. Mankee converted both of these but could not add the extras to a 59th minute try from young flanker James Goldsworthy who bulldozed his way to the line.
Coach Steve Larkins then threw on his remaining replacements moments before Mankee was forced to retire after a lengthy stoppage. Lock Ryan Smith was soon forced off as the home side grabbed a try for 15-45.
Now down to only thirteen players ‘Town’ surged back up field regardless with the impressive Hinds charging over in the 66th minute to bring up the half century of points with Pascoe slotting the conversion.
Centre Laurie Manna then sustained an injury in the closing stages and a depleted Camborne conceded a late try to bring some consolation for Newquay.

Cherry and Whites nil the Barbarians as they get back to winning ways,

Camborne bounced back from last week’s Western Counties reverse to run out convincing winners in a one sided encounter in the Recreation Ground sunshine.
For ‘Town’ youngsters scrum half James Rapson, prop Nathan Curnow and lock James Goldsworthy all earned recalls to the starting line up.
Playing down the slope the home side dominated the early exchanges and went in front with an 8th minute angled drop goal from David Mankee.
Still inside the 1st quarter a penalty punt for position in the scoreboard corner saw the forwards drive for the line and flanker Sam Matavesi touching down an unconverted try.
On the half hour skipper David Roberts picked up from the base of a scrum deep in the visitors half and burst clear on a 15 metre run to line. Fly half Mankee’s conversion attempt came back off a post and half time arrived at 13-0.

Early in the 2nd period Rapson launched an attack from deep trading passes with right wing Rob Floyd before touching down the best try of the afternoon. Mankee added the extras with a well judged kick.
Soon after more sustained Cherry & White forward pressure saw Curnow claim a try under a pile of bodies which Mankee converted from a wide angle for an emphatic 27-0 scoreline.
On the hour No 8 Roberts improved the score further storming over for his 2nd try of the day with Mankee converting.
The two sides then played out a disappointing final quarter and ‘Town’ will reflect on a number of scoring opportunities that went begging throughout the game preventing a win by a much bigger margin.

‘Town’ failed to sparkle on the day against a home side with a disciplined pick and drive game.
After two earlier misses David Mankee put his side in the lead with a 25th minute penalty.
An injury to hooker Andrew Smith disrupted the visitors and Kingsbridge responded with thirteen points in a purple patch before fly half Mankee reduced the deficit with his 2nd penalty on the half time whistle.
In the 2nd period full back Joe Parma went close from a couple of his trademark runs but another Mankee penalty was all the scoring Camborne could manage.
