Preston Grasshoppers 2xv U13 – 7 Burnley U13 - 17
The team travelled over to Preston to play one of the top clubs in the North West. All present were entertained to an excellent game of rugby, played in the right spirit.
From the kick off Burnley rucked well and dominated the early loose play exchanges. This was followed by domination at the scrum and lineout, In particular the return of William Exton who’s strength and ability really added to the forwards. Also new boy Jack Doney really got stuck in.
Jackson Linford and Tom Cooley stood out in the back row with great tackling.
Following concerted pressure and several turnovers at the breakdown Ashley Hancock broke from the lineout and went over for an excellent try. There followed more Burnley pressure, following a ‘Garryowen’ kick from Kyle Snaith, the forwards drove with Declan Hutchinson and Alistair Lancaster at the forefront, the ball was then smuggled to Ashley Hancock who drove over for the try. Man of the match Josh Dawes converted .
The large and well drilled Hoppers team came back with strong driving and after a Burnley offside drove over for a try that they converted. Burnley held a second phase of Hoppers pressure with great defensive tackling and then hit back with another try from long range from Ashley Hancock. Who had another strong game.
The team recorded a great victory that they should be rightly proud off.

Blackburn U13's 5 V Burnley U13's 15
Sunday 14th October
The Burnley team produced an excellent away victory in a close fought local derby.
The tackling from both sides was strong. Blackburn's large well drilled pack had the edge in the scrums whilst Burnley dominated the lineout. Throughout the match the open side flanker for Blackburn was everywhere and proved a thorn in the Burnley team’s side. However, Terry Wall and his team mates kept battling on.
Ashley Hancock opened the scoring with a long range effort. This was followed by good inter-passing in the backs leading to Jack Brooks going over for a try just before half time.
Following good driving from Jackson Linford, Joe Ellison and (man of the match) Declan Hutchinson, Ashely Hancock went over for his second.
Liverpool Collegiate U19 40 Burnley U19 10
Sunday 14th. October.
After four weeks without a game Burnley had the long trip to Liverpool to make and just managed to get a full side out as a couple of lads let the team down by not turning up for the journey. Then what can only be described as a journey and half resulted in the team getting to the ground at 2:45pm for a A2:00pm kick off so a quick change and 3:00pm kick off was agreed. The journey showed on the lads and in the first half they were well and truly put to the sword conceding five tries with no reply.
Into the second half and now Burnley had started to remember how to play some rugby and good line out ball for Sam Ecroyd showing what training can do for the lads. Burnley managed to get a penalty in the oppositions twenty two metre area Steven Kent arrived from full back to take a quick penalty and over he went for a try. Next so Burnley down to 14 men, as one lad was sent to the sin bin for a decision from the referee which can only be described as baffling. Next to score was Liverpool as they crossed twice in this half. The final try of the afternoon was rounded off by Gavin Gregory in the corner which Kent just missed converting.
All round it showed what four weeks off does to the lads fitness and team work which hopefully will be back for there cup game this Sunday away at Leigh meet the club 11:45. Also pleasing for the coach was seeing Chris make is debut at prop and Scott in the back row.

Hi John
Many thanks for this. We thought yesterday went really well and our lads thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a credit to Burnley in the way that the whole event was organised. Congratulations and well done to one and all! I'm sure we would be delighted to participate in nay future tournaments that you run.
On the subject of 2 December, we are looking forward to hosting you at U13 and U11 level. In my records I also have a question mark against U9s - not sure if you will be able to bring an U9s side? If so you would be more than welcome.
Thanks again
Andy
Burnley U19 72 Colne And Nelson U19 0
Burnley travelled to Colne and produced a fine performance when the finally got a side together, thanking Colne as they loaned 2 players to help Burnley to put a side out of 14 players. first on the score sheet was Paolo Angelone converted by Steve Kent, then Gavin Gregory out sprinted there covering defence and scored in the corner converted again by Kent. The third score was by captain Mark Hanson throwing an outrageous dummy again converted by Kent. The fourth try was by the ever mobile Dario Leone converted by Kent. The final two tries of this half were scored by scrum half Danny Rycroft and centre Matt Harbour one converted by Kent.
Into the second half and by this time Blair Bailey had turned up to join the team and scored the opening try of the half converted by Kent, then the try of the game showed the pack dominate with quality driving maul and then backs passing all the way to the wing and Muz Zaheer outsprinted is man and scored under the posts. The rest of Burnley tries were scored by Leone, Zaheer, Gregory and Harbour with kent converting two. So a nice resounding win in this local derby which hopefully bodes well for the next few seasons.
Burnley U13 27 Burnage u13 10
The U13 recorded another great win against a large and strong south Manchester side. The team played well, with tenacious tackling and powerful rucking. They also dominated the lineout. There was good running and good interplay and passing between forwards and backs.
The scoring was a hat-trick from Ash Hancock, a try apiece from Wes Hughes and Josh Dawes. With Dawes also converting a conversion.
The U13 are on a rest week this week and return to action on 20th April with a home match against Skipton
U11 Burnley 25 V. U11 Bradford & Bingley RUFC 10
Burnley were hosts to a touring Bradford & Bingley side (the Bees)The game was nip and tuck with this top Yorkshire outfit showing strong defensive tackling.Open running rugby was the order of the day from both sides, Burnley got on top with good backs play that lead to a series of try’s from the likes of Jake Foster, Celyn Lennard, Reagan Kelly and Tom Lawson…Not to be out done the forwards put there shoulder to the grindstone throughout the match with Edward Evans spectacular long throw in the line out to Scrum half Austin Ralph a sight to behold. They also got on the score sheet with Cameron Dawson powering over.
Overall the large crowd saw a good game, played in a great spirit that showed how the team as a whole are progressing.
This Sunday the team have been invited to the prestigious Vale of Lune Tournament in Lancaster. The coach leaves at 8.15 am so lads do not forget your alarms!
Burnley RUFC Tag Vs. Bradford & Bingley RUFC Tag
The under 8’s tag team, facing two strong full squads from Bradford, Burnley were unsure of their chances of a win.
Burnley’s very young squad though took up the challenge, with the first try to the Bees, Burnley’s Jake Wignall equalised with an excellent run down the wing. A second try came from Lincoln Pope who ran through the bees pack avoiding being tagged and placing the ball like a professional, even though he is one of the smallest at 5 years.
All the seasons training and games came together in the second half of the match, with excellent defending until the Bees took another try after much probing of the Burnley’s defensive line. Burnley’s Albert a new member of the team had a flying run down the wing to avoid the Bees defence for an excellent try and an end to the match.
The game at full time had Burnley with 15 points and Bradford & Bingley 10 points, this being the best result of the season, with all the tag team proud of what they have achieved in their collective first year playing rugby.
The Bees touring side named Lincoln Pope the man of the match and due to the effort by Ellis Wignall they also named him the second man of the match. The games were played in great spirit and the teams were a credit to there respective clubs.
U13/14 Clitheroe 7 Burnley U13 15
The team took the short trip over Pendle hill to play what has been one of the most keenly contested local derbies. This game was no different.
Clitheroe scored first, profiting off a Burnley fumble, and their talented fly half went over for a try from long distance. The Burnley pack started to get on top, with good scrummaging from the like of Jack Doney, Alistair Lancaster and Declan Hutchinson. The team rucked and tackled well showing great commitment. Anthony Clarke dominated at scrum half in his man of the match performance. Try machine Ashley Hancock powered over to score the opening try for Burnley. The game remained nip and tuck with both sides showing both good attacking rugby and sound defences. Then following a series of quick rucks Wes Hughes broke and powered over for a super try. The win was sealed with another try from Ashley Hancock who broke from the back of a scrum.
Both teams deserve credit, as the game was a pleasure to watch. The Burnley lads should be proud of their performance; they showed skill determination and were well disciplined
Lancashire under 14's ten a side competition
The prestigious Lancashire under 14 ten a side competition was held on Sunday at Burnley RUFC. Burnley's team of administrators and club volunteers staged a memorable day for well over 160 youngsters and countless travelling spectators from top clubs around the county. With a festival of glorious, fast and physical rugby on show, throughout the day.
The Burnley team, fielding a mixture of Under 13s and 14s players, caught the eye with the Lancashire county officials noting them as one of the best performances of the day, taking the lead against top side Preston Grasshoppers with a converted try. After narrowly losing their first game to Ormskirk, the Burnley youngsters employed some valiant defence against a wave of attacks from Hoppers who eventually drew a try back, before Burnley lost to two late tries in a free-flowing match.
The team reached the semi final of the plate competition and should be rightly proud of the effort and skill they put in on the day. When they play as a team they are a sight to behold. The majority of this talented young team will be able to play in this U14 tournament again next year, which bodes well for the future.
Burnley under 16’s 17- Pendle under 16’s 3

15 minutes into this Roses challenge match, Burnley were awarded a penalty. From the missed kick James White saw his chance and slipped past the Pendle defence for the first score of the match.10 minutes later and Adam Spencer’s determined run saw him rewarded with Burnley’s second try. Neither try was converted giving Burnley a 10 -0 half time lead.
A silly mistake early in the second half saw Pendle score from a penalty kick this was to be their first and last points of the game
Some good individual play from Pendle meant Burnley had to keep their concentration but slowly the Burnley forwards began to totally dominate, especially in the scrum.
10 minutes from time, Nico Manta powered over the line with 3 Pendle players trying to stop him giving Burnley a 17-3 victory and also their place as runners up in the Roses challenge.
Another excellent performance from the Burnley side who have improved 100% from last year.
