Bolton U15’s v Eccles – Blacksticks Blue Vase Quarter Final 0 - 22 08/03/09
Bolton’s U15’s travelled to Eccles hoping to continue the winning ways they had established again last weekend. A full squad of 22 was available for the first meeting of these teams this season.
The match began at a ferocious pace with Bolton looking to have the upper hand. But the first score went to Eccles after they finally outflanked Bolton’s previously solid defence. Bolton then started to stumble a little and by the break Eccles had put another score on the board to make it 12-0 to them at the interval.
Minimal changes in the strong squad and the second half again continued the solid work and bone crunching tackles on both sides. Unfortunately Bolton didn’t take advantage of the possession they had and turnovers lost them momentum. Eventually Eccles outflanked them twice more to take the final score to 22-0 for the home side and dreams of silverware for the U15’s were over.
The lads worked very hard and all spectators and officials were treated to a great match. The Referee complemented the Bolton team on their overall composure and excellent rucking both in attack and defence something the lads had been working hard on. It was just not to be their day!
The Team can hold their heads high. All 22 got on the pitch and worked for one another throughout.
Man of the Match – Will ‘Raging Bull’ Chambers – a Tighthead who discovered running & carrying the ball on the day! – carnage all around before Eccles eventually stopped him.
Tackler of the Match – Harry ‘Silent Assassin’ Hunt – he feels no pain as he hits & stops all before him!
