Bolton 30* v 7 Liverpool St Helens
Liverpool St Helens travelled down the M62 to visit Bolton and due to the Easter Holidays were only able to raise 14 players. The game was played with 14 a side and right from the off, the home team were rampant.
Straight from the kick off the ball found it's way into the safe hands of Manchester District representative Rob Wilcock from Canon Slade school who immediately ran for the try line scoring within 30 seconds of the kick off. This was the start of a match played by Bolton of 'Champagne' rugby. There were numerous tries in the opening 10 minutes from the home side. Andrew Jolly (Rivington and Blackrod High School) went on rampaging runs even selfishly passing the ball to his school mate Aaran Marham who scored under the posts. The home side kept the ball alive, suported each other to allow this to happen. Tom Mikowlajewski played well in the loose looking for every loose ball. Liam Lee (Little Lever) had some runs at the opposition, and Hamish Allen (QEGS) was always amongst the thick of it. Josh Robinson (Little Lever) bagged a try before he had to leave the pitch later with a groin injury. Daniel Hill (Canon Slade) took over Josh's role and was equal to it. David Entwistle playing at flanker never missed a tackle and Ed Carragher (Canon Slade) was to be found all over the pitch chasing every ball.
The game had to be restarted after the score reached a difference of 30 points.
Liverpool St Helens never gave up but more tries followed with Captain Nathan Felton (Thornleigh) going over the whitewash. Jacob Buckley (Thornleigh) was immense with his tackling and as a result picked up the award at the end of the match. More tries followed from Bolton as the game progressed too many to remember but the whole team seemed to be enjoying the game in the morning sun. Matthew Holden (Bolton School) went over for a try after following Rob Wilcock on his way to the try line. Number 9 Luke Halsall (Rivington) got his debut try after another run by Rob Wilcock and Luke was on hand to go over the line under the posts.
Not forgetting Nathan converting many of the tries too many to remember. Curtis Waugh (Sharples) just back from his winter training camp in Turkey made some excellent forays.
Tyler Patel playing at full back was safe and had some good runs at the opposition along with new boy Alex.
In the whole game there was only two kicks made and there was only four lineouts in the whole match.
It was a great spectacle to watch. The referee blew the final whistle just as Bolton were about to reach a century.
A fantastic performance. Let's hope v Eccles next week is the same.
Luke Halsall picked up the Best player award with Captain Nathan Felton collecting the grafter's award.
Rob Wilcock going over for his first try v Blackburn

Blackburn 30* v 17 Bolton
The under 13's travelled north up the M61 to play an unknown quantity in Blackburn who Bolton played several years ago. This was the quarter final of the Blacksticks Plate. With a squad of just 18 pitched against that of Blackburns which numbered 23 it wasn't going to be an easy day.
On the wind swept pitches at Blackburn it was a bitter day for both parents and players alike.
Bolton opened the game the stronger side and good forward play produced the ball for Rob Wilcock who ran the try in under the posts which Captain Nathan Felton converted.
Blackburn thought they were going to be up against it after the opening first minute but Bolton's luck soon began to run out. Daniel Hill retired after just 10 minutes with a back injury and Just before half time big 'Man mountain' Tyler Corless had to retire after injuring his back. Tyler's age was yet again questioned by the opposition prior to the game due to his sheer size and power.
Half time arrived with Blackburn ahead 29 v 12.
Hopefully the wind in the second half would prove useful.
The game started lively with Andrew Jolly making impressive runs but a knee injury to Tom Mikalojewski meant the scrums went to uncontested. Blackburn began to pile on the points with some excellent back play and running skills.
With all of Bolton's substitutes used it was all hands to the decks. H Scourfield played on with a head injury, Rob Wilcock was playing with a knee injury and with ten minutes to go David Entwistle went down with a shoulder injury.
Ed Caragher scored a consolation try for Bolton after a sterling run by Andrew Jolly. It was in fact the best try of the whole match after Ed backed up Jolly and went over despairingly in the corner. Nathan was unable to convert it.
Bolton played out the game with 14 players and those 14 were immense under the pressure from Blackburn.
Our Cup march now halted however everyone played valiantly.
Players award went to Ed Caragher.
There was little Bolton could do and the floodgates opened leaving the final score 50 v 17

Fleetwood 39 v 17 Bolton
Off to the west coast again for a friendly match against Fleetwood. With it being half term several key players were missing but the squad was boosted by two new players in Ed Caragher (Canon Slade) and Alex Buchanon (Thornleigh) who proved to know the game of rugby union and both put in excellent performances alongside their new team mates.
The score line does not suggest how close the game was. For most of the game Bolton were only 10 points behind play after going ahead early on through Rob Wilcocks (Canon Slade).
H Scourfield (Thornleigh) played in an unfamiliar role at scrum half with the regular scrum half away, and even after injury in the first 10 minutes which would have ended any other players match, he continued on with the game.
Key players in Andrew Jolly Rivington) and Tyler Corless (Thornleigh) made some strong runs even though both were under the weather.
Nathan Felton at fly half made some strong tackles along with Jacob Smith.
Rob Wilcocks got Bolton's other two tries it seems but one try was shared with Ed Caragher after excellent backing up by him meant that they both went over the line together to score. Nathan converted one of the tries.
Ed's trmendous debut for Bolton meant that he went away after the match with all three match awards.
A good result against a very strong Fleetwood side.

Southport 5 v 22 Bolton
A long trip to Southport in the lead up to the next game at home v Vale of Lune in the Blacksticks Challenge didn't seem to deter the Under 13's this week.
They came away with yet another win thanks to try scorers Rob Wilcock, Tyler Corless and two tries by the ramapant Andrew Jolly. Nathan Felton managed to convert one of the tries. The others were just too far out apart from one which hit the woodwork. Andrew Jolly had some great runs which awarded him the 'Grafters' award.
Player of the match award went to Hywel Scourfield and 'Tackler's' award went to Josh.
Hamish allen and Jacob Smith stepped up to 2nd row in the abscence of Josh Ledwidge who was unable to play due to the virus sweeping the country. Next weeks game will be tough against a long established Club such as Vale of Lune is. I am sure we can end the year on another scalp. Well done boys.

Broughton Park 5 v 35* Bolton
An emphatic win against Broughton Park by ten tries to one who are a developing side of Under 12's and Under 13's was just what the players needed today on their visit to the Manchester Club. They were able to throw the ball about against the weaker opposition bringing all the players in the team into play.
Broughton Park put up a good show but were not able to break down Bolton's forward play. Six tries by Rob Wilcock certainly sealed the victory.
Further tries by Tyler Corless and Andrew Jolly who managed to play even though suffering an illness, added to the tally. Josh Ledwidge returning after an injury the other week scored near to the uprights and Brandon Kingston enjoyed the day with plenty of the ball and scoring 'in his eyes' a long awaited try.
Nathan Felton crossed the whitewash only for the referee to disallow it. However he did convert seven of the ten tries. Look out Cipriani and Flood, you wont be keeping your shirt for long.
Forwards linked well with the backs helped by scrum half Luke Halsall.
Forward play was immense Liam Lee and Tom Mikalowjewski were everywhere and, Aarran Marham picking up the 'Grafters' award. Tacklers award went to Josh Ledwidge and the player of the match went to David Entwistle who scored a perfectly good try but the referee disallowed it. Nobody knew why. Well done to everyone.

Rochdale 22 v 22 Bolton
Bolton travelled to Rochdale in the Blacksticks Junior Challenge. Rochdale are one of the stronger sides in the Challenge. After Bolton's heavy defeat last week at the hands of Bury, Bolton had to improve for this game and so they did. Tries by Rob Wilcock, Tyler Corless and Andrew Jolly two of which were converted by Captain Nathan Felton. Unfortunately the referee failed to record one of the conversions and the final result was recorded as a draw.
A much improved performance by the team. H. Scourfield had a tremendous game along with Captain Felton. H stepped into play scumhalf in the abscence of Luke Halsall who was away on karate business, and had a great game.
Tacklers award went to Rob Wilcock, Player of the match was Nathan Felton and 'Grafters' award went to another tireless performance by Andrew Jolly.

Bury 35* v 5 Bolton
The Under 13's travelled to Bury on the back of a brilliant performance v Tyldesley but never got started. Bury came at them with all guns blazing, which paid off because Bolton were three tries down after 5 minutes thanks to Bury's outstanding number 8. Bolton did not tackle and paid the price. The first 10 minutes was the worst the team played all season. Lack of aggression up front meant that Bury starved Bolton of possession. H Scourfield had a good performance but had lack of support. Andrew Jolly had some great runs and scored Bolton's try. This earned him Player of the match award. H Scourfield won the team players award. Injuries to Josh Ledwidge and Tyler Corless marred the game. Bury dominated the whole game from start to finish.

A great performance by the whole team well done.
