Vale of Lune Tournament: 2007
Sunday 11th March 2007
Bolton u12s travelled to this well run tournament hoping to get past the group stages. Only group winners went through and we were in a group of death with an excellent Widnes side, eventual finalists Burnley and Fleetwood.
Widnes 14-0 Bolton
We started slowly against a well drilled who Widnes side and conceded two early tries. Some stirling tackling by Nathan Stansfield, Matthew Robinson(including one super lift on a forward who was over our line) and Matthew Stott helped stabilise our team but we didnt secure enough clean possession to get back into the game.
Burnley 26- Bolton
This was an enormous Burnley pack and as sometimes happens at this age it proved too much for our young team and we never got the ball out to our backs
Bolton 21-0 Fleetwood
We made up for the above disappointments with a good performance against a spirited Fleetwood side. Scorers were Matthew Stott (2) and Sebastian Reilly. There some good breaks by Alex Lawless and Sam Towers, James Chia continues to improve at prop.
Coaches player of the week Matthew Stott
Tackler of the week Nathan Stansfield
February 4th 2007 Lancashire 125 anniversary cup game
Bolton U12s 14- 5 Rochdale u12s
Bolton welcomed a well organised Rochdale side who attempted to play rugby throughout. Unfortunately the visitors were missing 5 first choice forwards and struggled to contain our stronger players. Sam Towers scored from a typical snipe after a prolonged spell close to their line. Nathan Stansfield scored after a surging run in the 2nd half. Seb Reilly was unlucky not to score as he crashed over. By this time Rochdale had opted to quickly moved the ball away from our pack and put us under some late pressure. They didn’t convert their try thus sparing us what would have been very tense last two minutes.
Parents match award Nathan Stansfield
Tackler of the week Sebastian Reilly
Coaches match award Sam Towers
Next week training, Feb 18 Leigh at home
January 28 Bolton Under 12s 7-7 Broughton Park under 12s
This was a great result against one of the benchmark teams in our age group.
The whole team played well. Broughton Park through their hooker took several of the Bolton scrums so we had to play without the ball for long spells. The team tackled well throughout
In a tense first half they built up a pressure position at the end crossing for a deserved score.
The 2nd half was equally tough with hard tackling by both sides
After soaking up a lot of pressure Bolton ventured upfield, James Clare was held just short after a quick tap penalty and Seb Reilly opportunistically placed the ball over the line for our try. Matthew Robinson held his nerve to convert in the near gale blowing.
The team tackled out the last 3 minutes under some pressure
All in all a great team display with lots to work on for the future.
Parents match award: Jessica Smethurst for all round play
Tackler of the match: Matthew Stott for driving the opposition back near the end
Coaches award: Ciaran Broxton, a great all round display
Next week home cup games V Tyldesley and Rochdale
Sunday 26th November 2006
Bolton U12s 7-14 Broughton Park U12s
Bolton U12s 0-21 Aldwinians
Bolton travelled to Aldwinians for probably our toughest Sunday of the season in a round robin.
These two teams have been the benchmark of standard in our age group and it’s a measure of how much the team as come on in that we were very disappointed to just lose out to Broughton Park. John Kirkman scored our try.
The second game was a quieter performance
Matthew Stott (deputising for the injured Matthew Robinson at 10), Alex lawless, Nathan Stansfield, Rebecca Trist, David Harding all grafted away throughout.
Man of the match: Tim Higgins for not putting a foot wrong at full back
Bolton U12s in the Lancashire 125 cup
Bolton travelled to Tyldesley for the first round robin of the Lancashire 125 cup.
Bolton 7-14 Aldwinians
This was a very tight game. Aldwinians were generally more eager and scored first. Alex Lawless scored a good try just on the break to level it at half-time. Aldwinians crept ahead after a somewhat fortuitous interception try. This was the signal for Bolton to up their tempo and start to recycle; at last we looked the better side. Very frustratingly the ref blew the final whistle to attend to an injured player as Sebastian was in the process of diving over, Aarghhhhhhhhh.
Bolton 42-0 Tydlesley
A fired up Bolton side then showed a lot of aggression to record a good win over Tyldesley.
Scorers were Sam Towers(2), Alex Lawless, John Kirkman, Rebecca Trist, Nathan Stansfield.
We have two more cup games, at home in February.
Man of the match; Sebastian; excellent debut

The whole team tackled well and strung together some good phases

Bolton under 12s 49-19* Glossop under 12s
Bolton maintained their good run of form with a god win in a free-flowing enjoyable game of rugby.
Bolton’s experienced players came to the fore in the first half and some good tries were scored; the pick being a kick and chase from Matthew Robinson.
In the second half Glossop got some good phases together as the game opened up. James Chia was very close to his first try but was called back for a prior infringement. Sam Towers scored a good try and kicked several conversions. Callum tombs ran well and broke tackles.
The team rucked better than last week and we will focus on this again next week.
Player of the match Rebecca Trist for bravery in contact.
Next week training. Cup game away to Tydesley in 2 weeks time.
Scorers: John Kirkman(3), David Harding(2), Nathan Stansfield, Matthew Robinson, Sam Towers, Rebecca Trist.
Sunday 29th October
Bolton under 12s 7-0 Sedgley Park under 12s
Bolton continued their unbeaten start to the season with a tense win over Sedgeley Park.
It was great to see 26 players down for Bolton and Catherine Brogan managed to rotate everyone on to the pitch. John Kirkman and Jessica guested for the visitors. Jessica took the opportunity to demonstrate how well she can play with ball in hand; well done Jessica!
In a very tight game Bolton started to gain the upper hand in the 2nd half. However the opposition were very good at stripping in the tackle and rucking. We will need to practise presentation of the ball and recycling.
After Bolton went close several times Jonathan Alan managed to score through a crowd of players. Nathan Stansfield and Rebecca Trist worked hard throughout.
Bolton held on in a tight finish to record their 3rd straight win with Matthew Robinson doing good defensive covering from full-back.
Next week home to Glossop.
Man of the match: Jonathan Alan for showing great strength and determination to score
Bolton under 12s 49* -19 Tyldesley under12s
Bolton welcomed Tydesley to Avenue Street
It was great to see 23 players down and the return of Catherine Brogan coaching
The opposition had 11 players only which made it very difficult to accommodate all 23 players with playing time. Many thanks to all our patient substitutes today.
We have some matches coming up against big clubs and I would anticipate that we will play 3 sessions enabling everyone to get a run-out.
Another all round performance today featured good play from Sam Towers, Nathan Stansfield, John Kirkman, Rebecca Trist, Sam Lyle , Haden and Jessica.
Man of the match was Matthew Stott who competed very bravely in his first outing for Bolton RUFC
The opposition were brave and fair throughout and scored some good second half tries.
Scorers Matthew Robinson (3), Rebecca Trist, James Clare, Nathan Stansfield(2), John Kirkman, Haden
Training next week and a big test against Sedgeley Park in two weeks time
