BOLTON RUFC UNDER 12'S SEASON 2007-8
Sunday 24th february 2008
Bolton U 12's 7 v 30* Fleetwood
Bolton entertained Fleetwood at home who have not lost a game all season. When Bolton travelled to
Fleetwood earlier in the season they lost heavily and they were out to make amends this time.
With a large squad bolstered by 4 new players from the Emerging Schools tournament Bolton had a chance to
make amends. From the very first kick Fleetwood took control of the game and ran at Bolton time after time
and with slick handling you could see why they have not lost a game all season.
They opened the scoring after just 9 minutes and brave tackling from Bolton could not stop the wave after
wave of Fleetwood attacks. Big runs by Tyler Corless were getting snuffed out and there appeared no opening
for the battling Bolton side. By half time Fleetwood were 5 tries up with no reply from Bolton.
The second half started very much like the first with Fleetwood dominant.
With a large squad and coaches trying to give everyone a game including the newcomers who played very well
against this daunting opposition, it was a difficult and torrid morning. 11 minutes into the second half and
Fleetwood gave Tyler Corless an opening down the left wing and he strode in to score Boltons only try of the
game. That was converted well by Matt Smith. The game finished with Fleetwood scoring three more tries, brave tackling by
Jonny Garrett couldn't stop the rampant Fleetwood. Bolton were shown a lesson in rugby today and will learn a lot from it. Most importantly to keep the ball moving and let the ball do the work.

WIGAN U12 28 V 14 BOLTON U12 AT WIGAN RFU CLUB
Despite extreme windy and cold conditions, the Bolton squad had a good turnout with sixteen players ready for
action before the kick off. Bolton started the game against the wind and against a much bigger side in the forwards.
The Bolton players were up for it and none more so than Tyler Corless, who drove through the full Wigan squad to
score a trademark try after a few minutes of play. Nathan as captain converted the kick with consummate ease.
Play resumed with one or two handling mistakes creeping in, which allowed Wigan back into the game with a try
and conversion. Bolton started to really apply themselves, especially in the set pieces. The forwards scrum
technique was excellent and they started to win every scrum, even against the opposition put in. Unfortunately
the referee failed to restrain the Wigan scrum half from attacking the Bolton scrum half illegally which resulted in
at least one of the Wigan tries. The referee did eventually get the message, but by then the damage was done.
The half ended with Bolton trialling by three tries to two, again Tyler going over after laying his body on the line
repeatedly.
The second half saw a change of tactics, with Bolton kicking behind the Wigan defence on numerous occasions, but
unfortunately the backs couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities and a lot of ball was wasted. Wigan, against the run
of play scored a great try with a solo effort. Instead of dropping their heads and surrendering, Bolton picked up the
pace and camped in the Wigan half for the last ten minutes, again numerous decisions went against them in very
strong field positions and Wigan where able to survive the Bolton onslaught by the skin of their teeth. The final
whistle came only too soon for Wigan as Bolton had dominated the play.
The overall team performance was fantastic, with great performances by Nathan Felton and H Scourfield, who
were voted by the parents as joint men of the match. But they were not alone with Aaron Marham and all the
forwards putting on the best display of power and technique in the scrum. It was a real pleasure to watch. Luke
Halsall had probably his best ever game as scrum half, along with solid performances by the two centres Curtis
Waugh and Johnny Garrett. Tyler had a terrific game but let his frustration boil over in an ugly incident. Tyler
will learn a lot from this game and be a better player as a result. As a whole the team played as a team and showed
great determination despite some poor decisions. All of the spectators were proud to see such a fantastic display
and realised that this team is becoming a team of winners in every department where it matters. Well done lads you
were the business.

Eccles Under 12's 14 v 21 Bolton Under 12's
Bolton travelled to Eccles this week with almost a full compliment of players apart from Brandon Kingston and Danny
Welsby. Eccles are a strong side and have a well drilled pack of forwards so it was going to be a tough game.

CURTIS WAUGH EVADING THE ECCLES TACKLES
The game began with both sides well matched and the match remained at 0-0 for a good part of the first half.
The front row started with Aaran Marham Matt Smith and Tom Mikalajewski. 2nd row Josh Ledwidge and Jack Bridges
and at no 8 David Entwistle. Backs were Luke Halsall,Nathan Felton,Curtis Waugh, Jonny Garrett, Jacob Smith,
Daniel Hill and H Scourfield. Oscar Murphy , Hamish Allen and Tyler Corless all started on the bench.
After an injury to David Entwistle after 10 minutes Tyler came on at no 8 and almost immediately had an impact on
the game. After ripping the ball from an opponents grasp he ran all the way to the line for his first of two tries.
Nathan converted the try and the score was 0-7.

TYLER CORLESS WHO SCORED TWO TRIES
Bolton scrummaged well with Matt Smith learning the role of hooker very well. The big Eccles pack could not
budge them. Tyler then came up with his second trademark try which Nathan converted 0-14 at half time.
The game was no way near won and but for last minute tackling by Jacob Smith and Jonny Garrett Eccles could easily
have been in front.
In the second half Eccles clawed their way back ino the game. Bolton won the front row battle just with Oscar having
a personal tussle with his opposite number.

NATHAN FELTON WHO CONVERTED ALL THE TRIES
Eccles came back into the game with two tries making the score 14-14and the game was poised to go anyway.
In the final two minutes after Bolton pressure on the Eccles line the ball came from a scrum was passed down
the line, held up in the middle which Tyler then won and he drew 4 players and popped the ball to Jonny Garrett who
went over the line for a try. The score now 14-21 and the Bolton side were relieved to hear the final whistle.
An excellent win against a formidable side. Excellent and fair refereeing also by the Eccles official Archie.
The players award went to the whole team.
Jonny Garrett picked up the tacklers medal for outstanding defence throughout the game.

BOLTONS SOLID DEFENCE POISED AGAINST ECCLES

Tyldesley Under 12's 30* v 14 Bolton Under 12's
It was a good job that Bolton were away to Tyldesley this week or it would have been another cancelled match
due to the weather. Tyldesley's pitches were in excellent condition considering the rain recently and with
most senior games and almost every Junior matches off in the North West of England there couldn't have been
any other ground hosting matches.
Bolton made the journey with many last minute cry-offs due to illnesses and could only travel with 12 players
with 13 players needed Tyldesley very kindly offered support from their large squad of 19.
The cherry and whites started the game the better and on 4 minutes Nathan Felton (Captain) on a solo run
scored the first try of the match in the corner which he converted himself.
Tyldesley immediately woke up and started to turn the screw on the depleted Bolton side. Even the brave
tackling from Brandon Kingston, Curtis Waugh and Jonny Garrett could not stem the flow of tries which
then bombarded the Bolton team. Tyldesley turned all their possesion into tries, Bolton seemed to lose
their shape and hunger for the ball and by half time Tyldesley had scored half a dozen converted tries.
The second half was a diferent matter however and Bolton began to believe in themselves.
Josh Ledwidge was awesome in the forwards and was leading the Bolton forwards by example. It was a pity
Brian Ashton wasn't looking on when Josh attempted an overhead kick to fool the opposition when he was
under pressure or England may have adopted the tactic. Bolton started to throw the ball wider in this half
and Brandon 'Jason Robinson' Kingston received the ball on the wing in his own half and with his jinking
running made it all the way to the try line for Bolton's second which he duly converted. Tyldesley replied
with two further tries before the final whistle.
The score line was not a true reflection on how the depleted Bolton side performed. Their tackling was
fearsome today, but they lacked hunger for the ball and did not always take the right options. Aaran Marham,
David Entwistle, Curtis Waugh and Matt Smith playing his first game as hooker all had excellent games.
Tackler of the match award went to Brandon 'Jason Robinson' Kingston and player of the match went to Josh
Ledwidge for his 'never say die' attitude.
Broughton Park U 12's 7 - 30* Bolton Under 12's Sunday 16th December 2007
After 3 weeks lay off it was time to travel away to Broughton Park who historically can be a very strong
team.
With the weather just above freezing it was touch and go as to whether the game would go ahead.
Both teams held a minutes silence in respect for the tragic death of Daniel Harrison a former member of
Bolton Rugby Club who died recently in a car crash.
With a squad of 17 turning up for todays match it was another difficult day for coaches rotating all the
substitutes.
The game kicked off with Bolton playing from right to left and Broughton Park started the stronger.
After several minutes they were first to score after sloppy defending by the Bolton forwards. With the try
converted Broughton were 7-0 up. Bolton replied very early on with Josh going over the try line and
Nathan Felton converting.
Daniel Hill won his match award by making a try scoring tackle in the first half. But for Daniel Broughton
were away.
Personnel were changed after 10 minutes but for no other reason than making sure that every one gets a
game of rugby. Both teams were getting stuck in but the option to maul up front was playing into
Broughtons hands. The first half was stalemate 7-7.
Personnel was changed again at the beginning of the second half. Tyler Corless came on for David
Entwistle who had propped up the rear of the scrum well in his abscence. He immediately made an
impression on the game with two tries on 4 minutes and one on 6 minutes. These were again easily
converted by Nathan.
Then it was the turn of the flying winger Daniel Welsby on 13 minutes. A new player but what a prospect.
He chased a kick from Nathan and when the Broughton defender failed to collect the ball it struck Daniel's knees and a race for the line was on but there was to be only one winner Daniel's first try for the club. Again converted the score now
7-28. Bolton continued to put pressure on the Broughton pack.
On 16 minutes Tyler on one of his runs off loaded to Nathan who scored and converted his own try. 7-35
Tyler wasn't going home without his hat trick and with two minutes remaining he bundled over the line to
make the final score 7-42 after Matt Smith converted. A brilliant performance by all in very cold conditions.
Tackle of the match award went to Daniel Hill
Player of the match award went to Josh for his grit and determination and of course his try.
BURY UNDER 12’S 21-26 BOLTON UNDER 12’S SUNDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2007
Bolton travelled to neighbouring Bury to play their local rivals. With poor weather conditions it looked like it would
be a difficult game for both sides.
With 17 players available Bolton had sufficient substitutes for the game.
Nathan Felton returned to the side after a fracture injury, at stand-off. Debutant Daniel Welsby playing his first
game for the Under 12’s. And what a great prospect he turned out to be.
Immediately after the kick off Tyler Corless was soon involved in the game showing his strengths in the mauling.
Nathan Felton took control of the backs and marshalled them well. 2 minutes into the game and Bolton got their first
try. A powerful run from the captain on the day Tyler opened the scoring. Unfortunately Nathan failed to convert the try 0-5 to the away team.
Matt Smith in the experimental back line settled in well with strong tackling from ‘H’ Scourfield
Bury were never going to break the back line.
On 8 minutes Bolton scored their second try and once again Captain Tyler Corless broke away with the ball from a
maul and ran through numerous flailing tackles to score his second. Nathan Felton converted it 0-12.
Halftime arrived and Bury seemed to be down and out after substitute Curtis Waugh came on in the second half and
scored almost immediately after Bolton offloaded the ball well with debutant Daniel Welsby playing a big part after
excellent running. Again Nathan converted and the score was 0-19.
Bolton were now playing their best rugby of the season so far. The forwards were playing their part in securing good
ball for the backs and the backs were throwing the ball about well with both wingers Daniel Hill and Brandon Kingston seeing their fare share of the ball. Bolton scored again and yes you guessed it Tyler with his hat trick, converted by Nathan and you would have
thought it was game over but Bury started to believe in them selves once again.
Bolton gave away a sloppy try after Bury pinned them back on their goal line.
7-26. Bury scored another try by a ‘big’ forward run and Bolton failed to tackle the strong runner allowing Bury back
into the game. 14-26.
In the final minute of play another strong drive by Bury with Nathan Felton bravely clinging onto the big forward
brought them a final try and an unfortunate injury once again to the returning Nathan Felton. We hope the injury is
only minor and that he is soon back playing once again.
Player of the match went to Tyler Corless. Bravery award went to Nathan Felton. H Scourfield and Matty Smith had a
brilliant performance. Daniel Welsby looks like a great prospect. He has both speed and ball handling skills which will
be a great asset to the team.
The whole team were excellent against tough opposition. Well done
