Bolton Under 11’s 33 v 26 Old Aldwinians
Aldwinians visited Avenue atreet and brought a large squad of 22 with them so with Bolton’s 19 strong squad it was decided to play 4 x 10 minute matches so that every body would get a game. Bolton started the stronger side and almost immediately put pressure on the opposition. Tyler Corless who was later awarded the Player of the match award caused problems for Aldwinians who were struggling to bring him down and he opened the scoring after Aldwinians failed to tackle him and he scored in the corner. Brandon Kingston stepped up and converted the try.
Aldwinians came back into the game and after the ref failed to spot an offside they collected the ball close to the Bolton try line and went over to score levelling the game after the try was converted.
Prior to the end of the first quarter Tyler again scored which he converted himself.
Aldwinians replied but failed to convert the try making the score 14 v 12 at the interval.
The team was changed with Daniel Turner, Hamish Allen, Declan Worsley, Tom Mikolajewski, Leon Munro and Luke Halsall all coming on to play.
Aldwinians changed their team also and this seemed to swing the game there way. They scored twice bringing the score to 14 v 26.
Bolton decided to pull their socks up and a jinking run by Brandon Kingston was awarded with a try which Nathan Felton converted. The score now 21 v 26 Bolton began to believe in themselves. Tyler scored once again which Brandon Kingston converted and the score now 28 v 26. The game could have gone either way but home supporters gave the team the boost they needed and Tyler added his final try which Bolton failed to convert. The final score was 33 v 26 and a gutsy performance by the home side to finish off the season with a fine win. Well done to the whole squad.
Tyler won the Player of the Match award. At the Junior presentation later Jacob Smith picked up the Most improved player award. Nathan Felton won the seasons coaches award of the season and Tyler Corless won the Player’s Player of the season as chosen by all the players. Well done to all the Trophy winners and well done to the whole squad for an excellent 2006/7 season.

Match Report Bolton Under 11’s Round robin Trafford Metrovicks/Tyldesley
Bolton Under 11’s travelled to Trafford Metrovick in Sale to play a re arranged match between Tyldesley and the Trafford Hawks side. The weather was gorgeous and the sun soaked ground in Sale was going to make for some good running rugby.
The first match to be played was between Bolton and Tyldesley, and the starting line up was Tom Mikolajews, Daniel Turner and Oscar Murphy in the front row with Tyler Corless and David Entwistle in the second row. Scrum half was Brandon Magne-Kingston and the backs were Nathan Felton, Matty Brooks, Jonny Garrett and Jacob Smith with Luke Halsall on the wing and Leon Munroe at fullback. Aarran Marhan, Curtis Waugh and Declan Worsley were subs.
Bolton started the stronger team and almost immediately started to tackle like Trojans. This unnerved their counterparts, which was enough to unsettle the normally strong Tyldesley side. Matty Brooks was the pick of the opening 10 minutes putting in some big hits. It soon became apparent that Bolton was a fair weather side. The sunrays seemed to give them extra confidence
Bolton opened the scoring with a try by Tyler who collected the ball from the back of a maul after good work from the Bolton forwards and with his customary run the first try was scored which was converted by Nathan.
With there being two matches each half was 10 minutes.
Bolton went into the interval 7-0 up.
The second half was much the same with Bolton continuing to tackle strongly at long last. Nathan made the game 12 v 0 with a brilliant solo effort cutting back inside several times with a well perfected side-step. The conversion missed the score was 12 v 0. Tyldesley came back strong and scored within a minute of full time which was converted and Bolton won the game 12 v 7 an excellent victory which put their tails up.
Tyldesley then played Trafford, which was excellently refereed by the Bolton coach.
Tyldesley seemed to start playing by this time and won the game 26 v 0.
Bolton’s second game was against Trafford who had fought back bravely against Tyldesley towards the end of the match and appeared up for it.
Bolton also on a high from their victory and a good warm up drill done by Luke’s dad. They were simply told to keep the ball wide due to the conditions and not to get tied into any ‘rucks’ or ‘mauls’.
This they did and you could see that they were beginning to enjoy the rugby. Darting runs by Daniel and Brandon, excellent tackling by David, Tyler, Matty and Aaraan and almost all the team were stopping Trafford in their tracks. Three tries in the first half two by Tyler who was just unstoppable and another by Nathan made it 21 v 0 at half time.
The second half and all the team was playing with confidence, Nathan was converting all the tries. Curtis decided it was time that he got in the action and some excellent running where he was hitting and spinning took him up the field and nobody could tackle him, an outstanding try. Tyler then scored another which Brandon converted the score now 35 v 0.
With two minutes to go Daniel stole the ball in a maul close to the Trafford line and went over. Nobody was going to take the ball off him for the conversion.
Some say that was why he scored so that he could keep the ball and take the conversion.
With one minute to go Curtis scored his second and best try evading numerous Trafford attempts to tackle him. This try also converted made the score 49 v 0 a brilliant performance by all the team.
All the team played well, listened to instructions and did exactly what they were told.
Everyone deserved the ‘Player of the match’ trophy but just pipping everyone to the post was Matty Brooks who more or less won the trophy in the first 10 minutes of the afternoon.

'All eyes on the ball' The Bolton forwards concentrating hard against Vale of Lune

Glossop Under 11's 30* vs14 BRUFC Under 11's
Bolton Under 11's made the long journey to Glossop for their last match last
Sunday. The team which was lead by last weeks man of the match Tyler seemed
ready for the tough match despite the horrible weather conditions. As the
game kicked off Bolton took the upper hand, good running from Matthew and
Nathan in the backs kept Glossop on the back foot but they just couldn't
break the tight Glossop defence.
With the bad weather continuing it was clear that this was to be a long
match. As the 1st half wore on the Bolton forwards led by man of the match
'H' started to get the upper hand on the Glossop pack, the only main
difference being that Glossop had a good prop forward who continuously made
it hard for any Bolton team member to tackle. This one player made the 1st
half a difficult one for Bolton who conceeded 4 unanswered tries.
Half time brought a few changes and although everybody was freezing, the
Bolton players decided that they wouldn't lie down. Massive tackles from
Curtis, David and Jacob started to worry the Glossop players and they didn't
want to get hurt by the stronger Bolton players. This allowed the Bolton
ball players to run forward and create more havok......more or less straight
after a big tackle Tyler picked the ball up in his own half and ran the
length of the field to score his first of two tries, the conversion finished
nicely by Daniel.
This inspired the now frost-bitten Bolton players and within literally a
couple of minutes Tyler had scored an almost identical try to worry the
Glossop players, this conversion completed by Brandon (i think). But
instead of more Bolton tries the game started to get a little messy (not
helped by a few dodgy reffing decisions), Glossop seemed to get every
decision and that prevented further break away tries from Luke, Leon & again
Tyler.
Every forward played extremely well against a slightly bigger Glossop pack,
Aaron, Tom, H, & Elliot were extremely strong in the front row. Curtis,
Tyler, Jacob, & Hamish got around the pitch extremely well throughout the
game creating constant problems for Glossop. The Bolton packs outshone the
Glossop backs but were unfortunate to pick up a couple of injuries, Tom
(Nose), Nathan (Back). Everybody in the back line should take credit for
the way they played throughout, Johnny played his usual excellent game, Luke
& Leon always wanted the ball, Brandon, Nathan, & Matthew all played to the
level we know they can by constantly asking questions of the Glossop
defence.
Thankyou to everybody who made the journey to Glossop and although it wasn't
the result we wanted there's the opportunity at next weeks tournament to
gain some experience and get a couple of wins. Well done to all the
players.
Man of the Match = H (Constantly a thorn in the side, he was at the bottom
of every ruck, stuck in the middle of every maul and tackled more than
anybody else all morning.)

Sedgley Park U11’s 26 V 28 Bolton RUFC U 11’s
Bolton U11’s travelled to Sedgley Park with a squad of 18 players, the second game this year having lost to Broughton Park at home recently. The coach has being saying all season that at some stage they were going to click and today was the day.
With the front row of Thomas Mikolajews, Daniel Turner and Aarran Marham up against the might of Sedgley Park’s big guns.
Immediately from the start Nathan Felton took control of the backs and with some great passing to keep the ball alive and away from the big Sedgley forwards Curtis Waugh with a powerful run scored the first try for Bolton which Brandon Magne-Kingston (aka Jason Robinson) converted to make the score 0-7.
Bolton were clearly hungry for a win and jinking runs by Brandon (clearly inspired by England win the previous day) opened up the pitch for Nathan to score the second try which again was converted 0-14. Was this going to be the first win of the season?
Luke Halsall saw more of the ball on the wing than usual and Declan Worsley made a tremendous tackle to bring down a Sedgley forward.
Aarran Marham (later to be crowned player of the match) was tackling brilliantly and had a new inspired believe in himself. Tyler Corless was unstoppable at times at 2nd row with his powerful runs. Leon Munro as he always is ball hungry and with the forward momentum as it was, Bolton had the upper hand. With a large squad of 18 players it was difficult to make sure that everyone had an equal run out. Tom Scott playing at scrum half was providing a good link between forwards and backs.
Nathan had to leave the field through injury and Matthew Brooks stepped up to stand off and took over his role. With Lara McGrath and Jonny Garrett in the centres no Sedgley Park player was going to break through the defence. And if they did Declan was on hand as the last line of defence.
At half-time the game was very even score wise but Bolton had the majority of the pressure. The score was 12-14.
The game was more even in the second half. Hamish Allen playing only his 2nd game for the club stepped into the role of lock forward along with Daniel Turner stepping in to hooker for the missing H and Bolton’s scrum although messy at times had the upper hand. Jacob Smith was always in the thick of the action ‘ferreting’ away. With the new scrummaging machine now arrived we will be able to sharpen this up. Oscar Murphy standing in at prop forward at times felt at ease. He was to produce the biggest crowd pleaser of the day when Bolton was awarded a short penalty. Nathan back on after injury popped the ball to Oscar who literally flattened the biggest and most vocal player on the Sedgley Park team the ball was recycled and David Entwistle scored in the corner.
Sedgley clawed their way back into the game and the score was 19-21. Their scrum half was having a blinder. More pressure from Bolton in the last 5 minutes produced a well deserved try from Jason Robinson (oop’s I meant Brandon) in the corner but he picked up an injury from it and had to leave the field. The try was converted. Bolton defended well until the final whistle and the final score was 26-28 to Bolton.
A well fought and deserved victory. This was celebrated by ‘high fives’ from all the team and a few proud mums’ and dad’s.
Next week training at Avenue Street 1030am.
Match Report Bolton Under 11’s Sunday 26th November 2006
Old Aldwinians U11’s 14 V Bolton U11’s 14
Bolton travelled to Droylsden with 14 players out of a squad of 19 to play Old Aldwinians who were an unknown quantity.
The team was as follows: - Tom Mikolajews, Aaran Marham, and Daniel Turner front row. Curtis Waugh and Jacob Smith 2nd row. Brandon Magne-Kingston played scrum half with backs Nathan Felton, Matthew Brooks, David Entwistle, Luke Halsall, Leon Munro and Declan Worsley at full back. William Brown and Tyler Corless started on the bench.
Bolton started the stronger of the two teams with Nathan Felton running the back line well with strong runs from Brandon Magne-Kingston and David Entwistle. Although the opposition were much bigger in the ‘powerhouse’ scrum, it held together well with Daniel Turner hooking well in this a new position to him. Bolton took the majority of the scrums and a breakaway and darting run by fly half Nathan brought the first score of the game to Bolton as he dived over in the corner. He converted his own try making the score 0-7 to Bolton.
The Bolton back line looked good with passing the ball al the way out to the winger Luke Halsall who has got both pace and a good side step. William Brown came on for Declan Worsley in the first half. Aldwinians replied with a try before half time to bring the score level.
Bolton’s lineouts had dominated the game.
The 2nd half started with Tyler Corless coming on for Jacob at 2nd row. Recovering from injury and only his second game almost immediately his presence was felt and straight away he became a target for the opposition.
All the team tackled well with Matthew Brooks, Leon Munro and Curtis Waugh putting big tackles in. Player of the match trophy was going to be difficult this week for the coaches.
With 5 minutes to go Aldwinians scored a dubious try as one of their players had knocked on prior to the score but the referee hadn’t seen it. He could not be faulted as he had had a good game so far. A short while later Brandon had to leave the field with an ankle injury after one of his trademark darting runs.
14-7 down and 2 minutes to go, Bolton applied the pressure. 5 metres out Tyler took the ball and bulldozed his way towards the line taking 4 defenders with him. The ball came out and was passed along the line to David Entwistle who looped around the weakened defence to score near the corner flag. Nathan Felton now under pressure to convert the try slotted it over to the sound of the final whistle.
The result of the match was 14-14 but a great game played by two evenly matched teams and refereed well by their coach who not only refereed but tried to coach the children as well.
A hard decision but try scorer David Entwistle pipped the rest to gain the ‘Player of the match ‘award. Well done a great team performance. Next week home v Eccles. An early start at 1000am for a pre match coaching session.

Rochdale Under 11's v Bolton Under 11's
The under 11's travelled to local rivals Rochdale who historically were a good side and well drilled. With a squad of 16 players it was an excellent turnout for an away game. Only Oliver and H were missing from the squad.
Rochdale had a large squad also and it was decided to play three games of 20 minutes each in order to swap the players around. The first game ended in defeat with Rochdales bigger players proving very difficult to stop against Bolton's minnows. The second game was much improved by the Bolton side. Jonathon Garrett led the way by tackling like a demon for his small stature. New player Tom Scott in his new role as scrum half was fearless.
Both David Entwistle and Nathan Felton were stopped just short of the Rochdale try line by try saving tackles.
Luke Halsall and Matthew Brooks made good drives. Declan Worsley being the last line of defence also put in some brave tackles. Bolton scored through Jonathon Garrett which earned him the 'Player of the week' award. Aarran Marham and the return of Thomas Mikolajews shored up the scrum well against bigger opposition.
Stand off Nathan Felton produced some fine kicking into space but the powerful Rochdale players produced some good tries to make Bolton second best. The whole squad played well and improve every week, considering we have so many new players this season. Well done to everyone!

Bolton u11's 14 v Glossop 42
Bolton hosted Glossop who were too powerful for the home side. Brandon (Pictured below) scored the two tries for Bolton and Nathan Felton picked up the player of the match award.

Sunday 29th October 2006
Bolton U11’s 42 V 35 Sedgley Park U11’s
Bolton welcomed Sedgley Park to Avenue Street and with it being Half term both sides were depleted. Sedgley arrived with 9 players with three key players missing and Bolton’s squad was 14 players. It was decided to play 9 a side with just a front row. Bolton’s front row made up of Aaran, H and Tom. Curtis and David shoring up the forwards and with the return of Oliver at scrum half for missing Brandon. Nathan at fly half, William and Jonathon on the wing. Newcomer Tom, Matthew, Jacob, Leon and Declan started as subs.
Sedgley looked shell shocked from the beginning when Bolton scored three tries in quick succession. Oliver at scrum half seemed to inspire the rest of the team winning good possession from the rucks. Instructions this week were to ruck rather than maul as we have been losing out in recent weeks from mauling bigger sides.
With the score at 21-0 to Bolton after 10 minutes with all tries converted Sedgley knuckled down and started to believe in themselves. There normal 3 reliable match winners missing seemed to give them a kick and the other players realised that they didn’t need them after all.
They scored two good tries and by half time they were only one try behind, 7 points behind.
Sedgley were down to 8 players in the 2nd half due to the coach’s son carrying an injury.
The 2nd half was ‘to and fro’ and both sides were desperate for a win. Could this be Bolton’s first win of the season or were they going to throw it away. Both sides were drawing with 5 minutes to go when Oliver went over to make the score 42-35.
Bolton managed to hold out until the final whistle to gain there first win of the season.
What a fantastic match it was.
Player of the match went to Leon Munro who had an inspired game. Well done to Leon and all the team.

Under 11's 7 v Tyldesley Under 11's 30*
Bolton hosted Tyldesley at Avenue Street and in the past they have been close encounters. With a squad of 17 players and a starting line up of only 12 players it was a coaches nightmare to control substitutions but at Bolton the policy is that everybody gets to play the game.
Tyldesley lined up and it looked like they were a team of forwards. They only arrived with 11 and Bolton gave them a player initially and William was selected to play. Tyldesley set off as they meant to go, there rucking and mauling was far more superior than Bolton's and the smaller Bolton team failed to get their tackles in sometimes the Tyldesley players rode between 5 and 7 tackles at a time. Bolton were half asleep in the first half and wave after wave of Tyldesley attacks brought the half time score to 5 tries to 1. Nathan Felton the only Bolton scorer with an excellent score down the right wing who converted his try himself. He had been having an excellent match at fly half also.
The second half Bolton gained a bit more confidence being led by David Entwistle who was putting some brilliant tackles in.It was a pity that the rest of the team didn't follow suit. The game ended with Tyldesley scoring several more times with no reply from Bolton. Bolton was taught a lesson in rucking today and will all learn from the experience. I am sure that by the return match in April next year there will a vast improvement.
Player of the match award went to David Entwistle who put in some excellent tackles. Probably more than the rest of the team put together. Well done David.

Bolton Under 11's 14 v Bury Under 11's 42
Bolton played their first game of the season against strong opposition.
Bury started the strongest and were 4 tries up within the first 10 minutes. Bolton started to come back into the game with a jinking try by Brandon who converted his own kick.
The first half finished with 4 converted tries to one to Bury.
Bolton started the 2nd half the stronger side with Daniel scoring after run down the wing after stealing the ball behind a scrum.
The game finished up with 6 tries to 2 to Bury all of which were converted.
Tyler who played his first game won the 'Player of the match award'. Well done everyone
