Sarge
Sarge
Don't ask me what his real name is, he probably told me at the last
OAP / VIP match but I can't for the life of me remember it! Of those that gathered at the match on
23rd October 2004, Sarge seemed to be the one who would win the best
dressed, and the one who still appears to have maintained his rugged good looks
(or at least I think that is what he told me to write!)
| John Burdett
Batch
Batch still poses a daunting sight as he towers above you. You can imagine what the opposite must
have felt like when Batch powered towards them. Always smiling, Batch is a friendly
giant!
| Ricky Bartlam
Barty
Barty is another legend of Atherstone Rugby Club. Everyone knows Barty and his brother
George and son Nicky, still playing today, will never do enough to creep out
from the original Barty's shadow. The big man gets down to the club whenever he
can. he will geat you with a
beaming smile and a twinkle in his eye!

Dom Aherne
Dom Aherne
Dom's father was one of the founder members of the club. The Joe Aherne trophy is the one all
players want to be awarded at the annual dinner. Dom's playing days are over but he still
carries on the tradition of post match alcohol even if he was not at the
match!
| Vince McCabe
Vince
McCabe
Still the hard man of rugby Vince is still trying to convince his
boys to follow in his footsteps. Both have dabbled with rugby but as yet
have not created their place in Atherstone RFC history in the same way that
their father did.
| Boney
Boney
Nicknames are great, but as nicknames go I am sure that this one is
apt! Boney is anything but! He cuts a dashing figure in his Green
Wellington Boots but the size he is, no-one is going to suggest that his attire
is inappropriate!

Paul Bostock
Paul
Bostock
Although still around the same age as many of the chaps still turning
out each Saturday, it has been some years since he pulled on his rugby
boots! He can more often be seen by
the side of a river dangling his worm! Recently married, Paul is discovering
that it is probably best not to give a time when you will be home, particularly
after an OAP / VIP day, because invariably you will not make it back for the
time! Far better to just
acknowledge that you will be back at some point and confirm that you have a
key!
| Tweedle Dee
Meet Keith Berry. Former Atherstone and
Warwickshire Police player Keith now visits Atherstone on his way back from
Leicester matches. He has often partaken of a healthy dose of hospitality
and visited a number of clubs on his journey back to Atherstone. he is one
half of the double act that is Irvine and Keith!
| Tweedle Dumb
Irvine is the second half of the terrible twosome
that is Berry and Linstead. Like his partner in crime Irvine now visits
the club after having watched Leicester through his glass (beer glass!) A
larger than life character the club would be less rich without Irvine and
Keith's visits ... they spend extraordinary amounts of cash over the
bar!
