October 1st
Atherstone
2nds (30) v Claverdon 2nds
(0)
Atherstone took on
Claverdon second team and this was the first time a Claverdon 2nd team had
travelled to Atherstone in four years!
A well won ruck released
Greg Burns who passed the ball to centre Tony Cooper for winger John Ley to go
over for a try with Greg missing the conversion.
Chris Redman fed the ball
to Matt Barnes to go over for the second try again Burns missing the
conversion.
Excellent rucking and
mauling gifted Atherstone with their third try of the afternoon with Tony Cooper
running it in and, you guessed it Burns missed his third conversion on the
trot.
Half time score
Atherstone 2nds 15, Claverdon 2nds 0.
Bob Hall took the ball on
supported by winger John Ley who passed the ball to Jason Wilson to go over for
the fourth try of the game and yet again Burns refusing to take the extra
points.
Fly half Chris Redman
took the ball over for Atherstone's fifth try of the afternoon with Burns opting
for the missed conversion.
Finally, winger Paul
Jones tackled a Claverdon centre while Redman stripped the ball and passed to
Martin Arnold who ran half the length of the pitch to go under the posts just to
make the conversion a formality for out of sorts' kicker Greg Burns.
However, the bright, calm
day had made conversions a lottery and but would you believe it Greg missed his
sixth and most difficult kick of the game from directly in front of the posts
giving Greg a new club record of 6 out of 6 misses - even first team kicker Nick
Cameron couldn't be that bad.
Final score to a cracking
game was Atherstone 2nds 30, Claverdon 2nds 0.

2nd team are away this week meet at the club at 1pm

September
24th Atherstone
2nd (31) v Coventry
Saracens 2nd (29)
Atherstone fielded two
father and sons playing in this game Bob and Calvin Hall with Chris and Andy
Redman. Atherstone had a good
mixture of youth and experience for this game with scrum half Chris Redman
setting up the first try to allow young Greg burns in for a super try with Andy
Redman converting.
Chris then scored a
lovely individual try unfortunately Andy was unable to
convert.
Tony `Cooperman' Cooper
scored Atherstone's third try of the afternoon with Redman again
converting.
Coventry Saracens also
scored a couple of tries of their own in this evenly fought
contest.
Half time score
Atherstone 19, Coventry Saracens 14.
The second half both
teams ran the ball at every opportunity with Saracens scoring twice in the
second half, with one successful conversion and a penalty.
Young Greg had a storming
game creating another great score from open play with the final try of the
afternoon coming from the Atherstone winger Andy Redman who also
converted.
Final score to a cracking
game was Atherstone 2nd's 31, Coventry Saracens 29.
Atherstone

1pm
please.
September 17th, Atherstone
2nd (0) v B arker Butts 4th (17)
Atherstone
were let down by the Referee at 2.30 on Saturday so one of the Barker Butts team
kindly offered to take charge of the whistle. This is the second time in two weeks
Atherstone's second string has been left without a Warwickshire Referee which is
not good enough.
Atherstone
and Barker's were two very evenly matched outfits with some excellent rugby
played by both teams in the first half with neither team managing to get on the
score sheet.
In the
second half Barker's decided to run the ball and were rewarded with an excellent
try with some lovely hands by forwards and backs alike. Calvin Hall had another excellent game
winning some excellent lineout ball - something that dad Bob could never quite
master. Barker's won an excellent
lineout ball which the forwards drove over the Atherstone
line.
Barker's
also scored another try from their forwards, which was this time
converted.
Full time
score Atherstone 0, Barker Butts 17.
Captain
Rodger Dunnachie said "it is always difficult playing without a recognised ref
but the lads all had a run out thanks to the Barker Butts player filling in
admirably as referee. It was a closely fought contest but key decisions went
against Atherstone but I am very happy with the way the guy's played.
Saturdays
game is to be arranged but it is a league Saturday so everyone in
no1's

September
10th, Atherstone 2nd (27) v Coventrians
2nd (7)
Atherstone
faced a very young Coventrians fifteen this week with Atherstone going into this
match with no fewer than 6 subs on the bench - some of them very experienced
players such is the new found interest in rugby in Atherstone.
Kelvin Hall
made a break then fed Richard (Kimbo) Kimberly who then fed returning first team
winger team Andy Burton who drew his player to allow Kimbo to go over for his
first try this season.
Again Kelvin
took the ball on this time with support from dad Bob and several forwards who
laid a good platform for Kimbo to chip over the top for returning first team
captain Danny (Cookie) Cooke to score his first try.
Atherstone's 3rd try came
from good first phase passion from a scum with the ball going through the hands
of the backs which saw Jase Wilson creating space for Andy Burton to go over.
also for his first try.
Veteran winger
Tony (Cooperman the Elder) Cooper who hasn't played for a fair few years made e
return from retirement after watching his nephew play last week against Copswood
and just to prove Cooperman the Elder hasn't lost his touch he side stepped a
couple of players before chipping forward which Cookie gathered up and fed to
Matty Kent who scored his second try of the day with young Shaun Major
converting.
Coventry kicked a penalty and ran
in a late consolation try late in the second half.
Second team captain
Rodger Dunnachie said he was very happy with how the 2nd's performed and he will
be pushing several of the players for the first team honours.
The seconds play Barker
Butts 4th team at home next week.

September 3rd, Burbage 1st / 2nd (24) v Atherstone 2nd
(5)
Atherstone 2nds played Burbage 1st / 2nd team away
with Atherstone taking a mixture off experience and inexperienced
players with very little playing time to face what was supposed to be the
Burbage 2nd team.
It was to turn out to be a
very physical game, with guest player referee Darren Pearce going over for
Atherstone's only try which started from a tap penalty on Atherstone's
22m.
Chris Redman spotted the
Burbage defense going to sleep and called for a quick tap, taken by Darren who
passed to Chris. The customary dummy from Chris saw him take the ball to
the Atherstone 10m where he fed to Calvin Hall. Calvin outpaced the
Burbage defense, however he was brought down on the Burbage 22 where the ever
present Chris scooped up the ball and fed to another debutant John Vann.
John drew the covering defender and fed inside to Darren to score a
great team try almost under the posts.
Chris said Atherstone
played well but the experience of the Burbage 1st/2nd team squad team was
to see them run out winners 28pts to 5, however Chris was keen to point out that
Burbage did not score in the second half.
Captain Redman suggested
that Darren having missed the conversion to his own try from in front of
the posts could have made all the difference to the final
score!!
Debutant Paul Jones
(younger and better looking brother to Leigh) played well, with John Vann also
setting his stall out for a future first team place. However unofficial
man of the match probably went to Calvin Hall who only guested to make up the
numbers was ever present at every breakdown.
