M2002 COMMONWEALTH GAMES RUGBY 7'S
The club was selected to host 4 visiting nations taking part in the Games-England(on 23rd July only-see separate article)) , South Africa , Canada , and Cook Islands. From 23rd July through to the start of the Tournament on 2nd August these nations trained twice a day on the grounds and used the clubhouse facilities which had been meticulously prepared by a team of club volunteers.
They were joined at various times by other nations- Samoa, Australia, Sri Lanka and Fiji to take part in training matches. The photo captures Canada and Australia enjoying a rare hot summers afternoon session-their endeavours being watched by club members and visitors.
As a token of appreciation various countries(6) presented the club with their national 7s shirts which are now on display in the club. Our objective is to build up a full wall of the 16 M2002 7's shirts. If anyone can help us to obtain the Wales,Scotland,New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Kenya,Malaysia,Trinidad & Tobago,Tonga please get in contact.-
