CLUB DEVELOPMENT
Rugby Development Team Support
Development Planning - RDO Support in development planning and reaching your club targets
Rugby clubs are rapidly moving into a more 'professional' culture, partly as a result of changes in legislation, but largely from the desire to improve the provision for all members and to grow the club. The most effective way for clubs to develop and improve is to be involved in a planning process that sets your club on the path to a better future. It is also important that this process and plan involves all sections of the club if it is to be effective.
From this your local RDO, Alex Bowden, can also identify areas that they can support you with such as:
- Facility needs
- Recruitment programme for mini, juniors and adults
- RFU Seal of approval accreditation
- Community link programmes
- Schools programmes
- Funding support

Seal of Approval and Whole Club Seal of Approval
An introduction from Andrew Scoular, Community Rugby Director.
Community Rugby introduced the Mini & Youth Seal of Approval accreditation programme as a method of examining, maintaining and improving the provision of rugby for young people in a rugby club.
The accreditation recognises the effort and achievement of your volunteers in reaching the required standard of a club committed to the development of rugby for young people. In association with Sport England and the ‘Clubmark’ scheme, our aim is to set standards of quality control that will produce quality youth rugby clubs across the country.
The accreditation will also show all those with an interest in rugby and sports development that your club is providing its young people with a safe, well-organised and enjoyable environment in which to learn and play rugby.

The seal of approval process has changed and been updated since it was first introduced inline with Sport England recommendations and RFU developments. The process now involves a 3 year cycle following accreditation:

YEAR 1 HEALTHCHECK
YEAR 2 HEALTHCHECK
YEAR 3 RE-ACCREDITATION
REPEAT OF ABOVE HEALTHCHECK PROCESS
We presently have 11 clubs in Central Yorkshire with RFU Seal of Approval. Please contact Alex Bowden if you would like more information on were your clubs is in relation to RFU Seal of Approval accreditation. A Whole club approach can be taken by working towards the new “WHOLE CLUB SEAL APPROVAL” accreditation or re-accreditation.
WHOLE CLUBS SEAL OF APPROVAL – NEW FOR 2009
Get your whole club involved in the Seal of Approval
Community Rugby introduced the Whole Club Seal of Approval accreditation in 2009 as a method of ensuring high quality provision of rugby in clubs. The accreditation recognises the effort and achievement of volunteers in reaching the required standard of a club committed to the development of rugby union.
Whole Club Seal of Approval builds on the established procedures of Mini and Youth Seal of Approval to retain young players when they move from youth into adult rugby and to ensure the long term sustainability of rugby clubs.
