Statement from Suffolk Rugby Union - Wattisham Warriors RFU
Changes have been made to teams in all three Divisions of the Suffolk League which will affect every club:
·
Wattisham Warriors have been moved to Division One where they will play the remainder of Colchester A’s fixtures starting with an away game against Mersea Island Rhinos on 18 October
·
Colchester A will now play in Division Two where they will take over Colchester Cavaliers’ remaining games
·
Colchester Cavaliers will drop to Division Three to play Wattisham’s remaining fixtures
Results of games already played will stand and will be attributed to the team moving into the relevant division. Please make sure captains, fixture secretaries, etc., are all aware of this change which take effect immediately. Fixtures have been updated on the Suffolk web site. These changes have been forced upon the League following the decision of teams not to honour the fixtures against Wattisham. Having watched Wattisham play there is certainly no element of danger involved in playing them, the decisions to call off being based on the fear of losing heavily. This, along with evidence of telephone calls being made to clubs suggesting that they call off their fixtures with Wattisham as they are ‘too strong’, has tarnished the game locally and is very much against the ethos of rugby. Picking and choosing who you play against based on whether you might win or lose and how much by is no way to run a club and is to be discouraged. Currently the sanction is the loss of a league point but we may consider something more punitive in future.

PLAYER RECRUITMENT -
2008/2009 SEASON
It is proposed to start a new Station Rugby Club, the Wattisham Warriors, comprising of members drawn from all Wattisham based units and organisations. It is planned that the club would compete in the new season, but before its launch it is necessary to gauge interest across the station. We will be
playing civilian rugby and contesting the Suffolk Merit Leagues with a view to gain promotion into the London Leagues in under 5 seasons time
To this end a Player Recruitment event will be held in the Longbow Café between 1100Hrs and 1330Hrs on Monday 28th July 2008. All soldiers and MOD civilian employees serving at Wattisham are welcome to join whether new to the game or seasoned players. This will also give the opportunity for completed forms to be handed in and club membership to be paid. Player registration is a necessary part or gauging Interest in this venture before a new club can be established. The outcome of the registration event will be notified on subsequent orders. If there are any individuals who are unable to attend, registration forms can be collected from Matthew Jackson MGS, the proposed Director of Rugby at the Main Gate or by contacting him on 07812988049
LAW CHANGES COME IN ON 1st AUGUST FOR 12 MONTH TRIAL
