Telford vs Oswestry
Fifteen Telford Hornets U8’s made the long journey across to Oswestry and with the ‘Yellow’ and ‘Black ‘teams playing two games each, both teams won and overall the score was 20 -17 to Telford.
The Black team drew their first game 6-6 and won their second game 5-4. With great teamwork, defensive tagging and amazing passing moves, Ollie Reeves, Mulhim Eltaib, Alex Sterling, Ethan Harley and Harry Tipper all scored 2 tries each and Alex Bull scored one try for the Black team.
The Yellow team won their first game 4-2, and drew their second game 5-5. George Chadderton played his debut game for the club and narrowly missed scoring twice. The try scorers for the yellows were Ben Ryder scoring one try, Izzy Mcguire three tries, and Jake Bueno- Davies scored an amazing five tries. The score line was almost higher as Ben Ryder was unlucky to have one of his tries disallowed.
Our Players of the week this week are Jake Bueno-Davies for playing yet another fantastic game, and for Ben Ryder for scoring his first try for the team and for all his hard work and effort today.
Telford vs Stourbridge
Wow, an amazing turnout of 24 players which meant we fielded 3 teams against Stourbridge and we won overall 16 tries to their 10. The individual games results to us were 6-2, 3-3, 1-3 and 6-2, meaning we only lost one game, won two and drew one. Our try scorers today were Ethan Harley 4 tries, Mulhim Eltaib 3 tries, Ollie Reeves and Harry Tipper 2 tries each and Joseph Sumner, William Tannahill-Harris, Alex Sterling, Zac Roberts-Crutchley and Owen Aidney one try each. Max Cummings played his first game for the team today.
The first game played today was the best the under 8’s team has ever played with amazing support play, teamwork and commitment. Our players of the match today are Ethan Harley and Joseph Sumner, well done both.
The team spirit was carried on by 23 players meeting up at Telford Tenpin bowling for a couple of games, which was a great success. Thank you for Sophie and Mark Tipper for organising.
Telford vs Newport
The under 8’s turned out two teams at Newport today, and fought bravely over the four matches played. The games were tight and we were victorious in the last, unfortunately finishing 17-22 down overall.
The Newport squad was strong and a pleasure to play.
This away fixture came as an exciting sequel to our first home game of the season which gave us a commanding win - so now there is all to play for in the deciding fixture in 2012.
There were many tries scored by the teams, Mulhim Eltaib scoring 5 overall; Ellie Johnson scored 4 tries one of which saw her run the whole length of the pitch, Ethan Harley and Isobel McGuire both scored 3 tries each. William Tannahill-Harris scored a try and Harry Tipper, who set up some fantastic tries, also then went on to score a try himself.
Ewan Webb, Joseph Cully, Daniel McGuire, George Biffin, Harry Clinton and Alex Stirling all played extremely well and enabled the team to put up a strong fight with some excellent tagging and supportive play.
Player of the match for Telford was William Tannahill-Harris for the Yellow team who gave a storming try in his first game along with a succession of defensive delights. Isobel McGuire takes the glory for the Black team, continuing her run of tries this season and playing a big part in many of the creative runs for the team.
Telford vs Luctonians
Today our two teams put up a valiant effort against Luctonains scoring 16 tries in total, but unfortunately this was not enough to secure a win, despite drawing the final game 7 all. Our tries scorers were, George Biffin, Zac Roberts-Crutchley, Alex Bull, Harry Tipper, Joe Cully, Ewan Webb, Ellie Johnson, 2 tries each from Ollie Reeves, Izzy Mcguire, Mulhim Eltaib and three tries from Owen Aidney.
Today, we had 2 new players playing their first game ever for the club, Luke Haughton and Joseph Sumner. The trophy winners this week for the team were Ollie Reeves and Owen Aidney.
Many thanks for all the under 8 parents who helped cater for all our players, guests and visiting teams today, and all the parents for assistance with scorekeeping and organising our 22 players during the game.
Telford vs Bridgnorth
Today Telford U8’s played away at Bridgnorth against Bridgnorth and Walsall in a tri- tournament. We had an amazing squad of 22 players, the most we have ever had for an away game so thank you to all the support from our players and parents.
We played two teams, a total of four matches and the final scores being a win to Telford 11 tries – 10 tries –v- Walsall, and narrow defeat by one try against Bridgnorth 8 tries to 7.
The try scorers against Walsall were William Tannahill-Harris, Ewan Webb, Ollie Reeves, Alex Sterling one try each, Ellie Johnson and Izzy McGuire 2 tries each and Mulhim Etaib scoring 3 tries.
The try scorers against Bridgnorth were Ollie Reeves, Ethan Harley, Alex Sterling, Izzy Mcguire, Owen Aidney and Mulhim Eltaib 2 tries.
For two of our try scorers today, this was their first ever try in a competitive game, being William Tannahill- Harris and Ewan Webb, and today was the first game ever for Finn Whitworth, Poppy Starling and Tyler Rigby, so well done to all.
Players of the match this week go to Ellie Johnson and Mulhim Etaib
Last week’s match report against Shrewsbury missed off the two tries scored by Zac Roberts-Crutchley.
On the 11th September, Telford Hornets U6,7’s and 8’s took part in a Charity Fun day in aid of the Wooden Spoon charity, organised by Jo Weaver. As a squad they ran 13 miles, with all taking part in the final mile including parents. Each child had a sponsorship form and as a team we raised over £522 – so well done to everyone. Our highest fund raisers on the day were Annalie Jarvis (U6/7’s) £112 and Joe Cully (U8) £82, and a large donation of £150 from Elliott Catts grandmother. Two of our team managed to run all the way on their lap (Ethan Harley and Harry Tipper)
The four children were award a prize of Wacky Soxs of their choice, and below are the U8's proud winners with Jo Weaver, coach of the U8's and organiser. Right to left (Joe Cully, Ethan Harley and Harry Tipper, with Jo Weaver)
Telford vs Shrewsbury
Today the U8’s played 2 teams (‘blacks’ and ‘yellows’ our team colours) away against tough local opposition of Shrewsbury. The black team played two really close games, but finally lost 4-3 & 5-4. Our tries scorers being Ethan Harley, Owan Aidney, Harry Tipper 2 tries, and Ollie Reeves 3 tries.
Our yellow team drew overall, winning their first game, 4 tries to 3, and narrowly losing their second game 2 tries to 3. All these tries were the first time these players have scored for the club, as this was either their first or second game played for the club, so special congratulations go to Dan McGuire, Ellie Johnson, George Biffin, Sam Barney and Luke Haughton 2 tries.
Telford vs Newport
Telford Hornets under 8’s won their first game of the season against Newport U8’s on tries, with two games played at home, with Telford winning the first match 5 tries to 1, and narrowly losing to Newport on the second game, 4 tries to 5.
The nine tries were scored by seven different players showing the strength and breadth of the team, Izzy Mcguire (on her debut) , Harry Tipper, Ollie Reeves, Mulhim Eltaib, Joe Cully, and two tries each from Ethan Harley and Alex Sterling.
We had several new players for which it was their first game today for the club, Owen Aidney, Dan Mcguire, Ben Ryder, William Tannahill-Harris, and Charlie Starling, who all played extremely well. Many thanks to Jo Weaver for all her excellent coaching for this brilliant start to the season, and this was also the first time the team wore their new team strip sponsored by Cargotec Ltd, based in Ellesmere, Shropshire.
