West Norfolk Festival – Match Report U8s
North Walsham 5 Swaffham 3
The opening match for the U8 s was against a well drilled side from North Walsham; Not knowing what to expect the boys lined up only to be caught out by the speed of the first try. Swaffham gathered themselves and great running by Seb Czarnowski, Robert Hooton and Sam Andrews saw the team come close before Fergus Gregory just went into touch. From the throw in North Walsham then ran in a second try. Once again the guys gathered themselves and a wonderful solo run by Robert Hooton saw a first try for Swaffham. From the restart North Walsham then scored again in the corner. Swaffham came straight back with an exciting twisting run from Fergus Gregory to score. A few missed tag tackles saw North Walsham run in a fourth try before half time to leave the score at 4-2.
The second half saw a more evenly matched game as the ball moved end to end with both sides making errors under pressure. Some great passing when tagged from Oliver Obeney & Matthew Lewins saw Harry Steward come close to scoring, before the ball went out to Robert Hooton who scored a fine second try. From the restart Swaffham tag tackled North Walsham very well and made life difficult but failed to stop them running in a final try just before the whistle.

Holt 4 Swaffham 3
A now composed Swaffham matched Holt move for move until Holt finally broke the dead lock with a try right in the corner. Swaffham came straight back with a lovely looping run by Harry Steward to even things out. Holt with some fine individual play took the lead once again. From the restart Oliver Obeney carried the ball several metres before being tagged, a quick short pass to Seb Czarnowski and a few jinking steps at pace saw a score to even things up at half time. The Second half opened with a quick try from Holt. An infringement was punished by Fergus Gregory who ran in Swaffhams third try to leave the game all square. The game then see sawed on a knife edge with probably the best spell of tag tackling on the day being exhibited by the whole Swaffham team. This resulted in them being the only team to achieve the full seven tag tackles, winning the ball. An excellent display of speed by Harry Steward saw him almost reach the line for the winner; but an infringement was a judged. Swaffham were then unable to catch the Holt player who scored the final decisive try to seal the match 4-3.
MOM – Fergus Gregory
Sudbury 4 Swaffham 4
A confident Swaffham took to the pitch for the final match and very quickly established a lead with try’s from Fergus Gregory & Harry Steward. Sudbury then came back with some dogged play and despite Swaffhams valiant defence the scores were level at half time. In the second half Swaffham put in a huge team effort and this resulted in Harry Steward placing them back into the lead with a fine solo run. Things soon levelled up and the restart saw Harry Steward embark on his hat trick run placing Swaffham back in the lead. Some outstanding tag tackling by Sam Andrews, Robert Hooton, Fergus Gregory and Matthew Lewins resulted in Swaffham winning the ball. The final restart saw Seb Czesowski set off on a fine individual run, passing the ball out to Oliver Obeney who made a dash for the line. One metre from the line the referee saw a Swaffham infringement. A quick move by Sudbury caught Swaffham off guard and the resulting try levelled the match. 4-4
