STAFFORDSHIRE U16 36 WARWICKSHIRE 12
It was another record breaking performance at Broad Street RFC on Sunday as the 16 group side completely out played Warwickshire, wining by 36-12. This was the highest points total scored against the county by Staffordshire and the greatest wining margin.
The game was only a few minutes old when Jack Sporcic scored his fifth try of the season converted by Daniel Robson (Newcastle Sch and Stoke RFC). For a brief moment, Warwickshire were back in the game, as they replied with a try from their winger which was also converted.
From that point on until the very last move of the game, Staffordshire had complete control in all phases of play. Karl Protheroe (St Thomas More HS & Newcastle RFC) scored his first try, before Sporcic went over for his second try of the game, and sixth in total.
Further tries were added by Adam Nixon (Oldswinford Sch and Wolverhampton RFC) and Richard Burton (Friary HS and Lichfield RFC), together with a try and two conversions from Josh Massey (KES Lichfield and Lichfield RFC).
The introduction of replacements in both backs and forwards did not disrupt the performance. It is encouraging that all members of the squad are able to contribute to the high standards of play and shows the strength in depth within the squad. Even a second Warwickshire try on the final whistle did not detract from the excellence of the Staffordshire victory.
With just one further game against North Midlands at Walsall RFC on Wednesday 21st November, ko 7-30pm, we are hoping that the squad can reproduce the form that they have displayed in the first three games, and record another victory against another side who have proved difficult to beat in recent years.
