Rossington Hornets RUFC was set up in the year 2005, a newly formed club under the banner of the Rossington Hornets which was traditionally known as a Rugby league club, as it was recognised that that there were quite a few local people who would still like the opportunity to represent their club.
The football community is very large in Rossington, which is making it very hard for rugby (both codes) to develop. Kevin Fennelly (Rugby Director) was the one of founders of Rossington Hornets RUFC and worked hard from the scratch to get the rugby union club up and running.
Rossington Hornets RUFC identified a gap for local rugby enthusiasts in Rossington so the juniors were set up to play and be able to compete.
The juniors had a hugely successful start to their season until they lost to a strong side from Harrogate in a Yorkshire cup game.
During the same season the seniors were slowing building up with help from Luke Taylor (England Deaf Rugby Union) with his coaching services and Steve Bowers (Army Cadets) who helped recruit players.
The senior side was finally set up as a squad and played two fixtures as novices against Adwick Le Street, losing twice in hard fought games.
The aim for Rossington Hornets RUFC was to enable the local community to get together, enjoy the sport of rugby and be able to participate in every aspect whether training, playing matches or knowing socially that there aren't any barriers due to a common ground.
Rossington Hornets RUFC is supported by a group of very committed volunteers who work tirelessly to develop the game.
Any new players welcome as we have a Rugby for All policy at the club.
