Year Summary 2005
The 2004/2005 season has been a season that will be remembered for a long time and which culminated in Redruth winning the National Division 3 Play Off to gain promotion to National Division 2 next season.
It all kicked off with a deserved away win back in September at Westcombe Park, a ground where the club had never won before. A home win against Havant was followed by a deserved draw at Barking although we were rather unlucky not to snatch a win with a last minute try being disallowed.
The most disappointing result of the season was at North Walsham where a cruel last minute decision resulted in the home side kicking a penalty to snatch a single point victory. Following this the side struggled somewhat to beat Reading at home and then lost to Dings Crusaders away.
In this period the club lost the services of James Lancaster who moved to London and Mark Scrivener who picked up a serious knee injury, and was to miss the rest of the season. However the blip was temporary and the defeat at Dings kick started a wonderful run of 15 matches unbeaten. This run came to an end with an unlucky defeat at home to eventual champions Barking, but a concerted effort by all saw the remainder of the season go unbeaten including the great victory over Macclesfield in the Play Off in front of a crowd of 4000.Nathan Pedley broke the clubs try scoring record with 20 tries and Bede Brown was the top points scorer with 174 points. The team had the best defensive record in the league conceding just 317 points all season, including the Play Off. The club reached the 3rd round of the Powergen Cup losing out to Waterloo who they will now play next season in Division 2.
The youth and Colts sections continue to thrive with some excellent youngsters joining the senior ranks for next season. Head Coach Nigel Hambly, who excelled with his club, also had the honour of coaching Cornwall. Whilst the 2004/2005 season will go down as one of the best, the club knows full well that the 2005/2006 season will be one of the hardest.
