PAIGNTON RFC YOUTH SECTION
OVERVIEW
After years of work, Paignton finally has a full youth section with teams ranging from under 7's upto under 16's. With this now in place the future of the club is hopefully set for future success on and off the field.
Under 7's and 8's play 'Tag Rugby' which is a safe, non contact form of the game. Both Home and Away fixtures are arranged through out the season.
Under 9's to 12's play contact Rugby, with skills being introduced gradually the Under 9's also play on a bigger pitch, as players progress, scrums, line outs go from uncontested to contested, along with other skills
From Under 13s upwards, players are on a full size pitch, and from Under 13 to Under 16's players lean more skills, and progress to learning the more advanced skills required to play the game,
The under 16's under the eye of Steve Alexander are the team to watch as they progress from the youth section to the Colts.
The other age groups are progressing well, and as always teams rely on an army of volunteers to coach and of course do all the admin work associated with individual teams. All this is under the eye of the clubs’ Junior Chairman, Dave Hodgetts and Treasurer Ken Crawley.
The younger teams, are also doing well this season with promising results and we have many excellent players, in every age group who we hope will one day represent Paignton at Senior level, or perhaps even England, only time will tell.
The section is lucky in that many of the coaches are also ex-players or even current players, this brings an extra edge as they offer their past playing experience to the young players of today.
Most importantly players learn team skills, and fair play essential in any sport.
Matches are on Sunday mornings, with the number of teams, games are also played at Clennon valley and at other local venues, or the teams may be at an away fixture. You are more then welcome down on Sunday mornings to give support to the players, and coaches, or perhaps you feel you have something to offer and would like to get involved with the coaching, all help is appreciated, as later on when teams have forwards and backs, players need more specialist coaching so they can make the most of the position they play.
The club also has 2 girls teams, and this is under development so any girls over the age of 12 that would like to give rugby a try, please get in touch.
