DISCIPLINE
Unfortunately situations may arise where you have no option but to send a player off (issue a Red Card); this will require a report to the county disciplinary panel. The Society discipline representative will advise you of the process and discuss the report with you.
You do not normally have to attend any subsequent disciplinary hearings, but occasionally the disciplinary committee may request your presence. In this case a representative of the Society will accompany you.
ABUSE OF REFEREES
Infrequently, there is some abusive behaviour by a minority of spectators, coaches and/or players, but experience has shown that it is not an item to cause you too much concern. As a referee concentrating on the match, you tend not to hear it at all.
The RFU and Constituent Bodies penalise very heavily any player or club member shown to be abusive. There are often humorous comments made by spectators that may amuse you. More frequently, the comments relate to their biased perception of a match played to the laws at least a decade old.
However, if you believe the abuse goes beyond what is acceptable (or can loosely be referred to as “uncultured banter”), there is an official procedure for reporting it. The Society secretary should be contacted and he will provide you with any necessary forms and advise you on the process.
