Is it a bird, is a plane, no it's ....................... Gillam!!
The squad started 28 strong on Monday morning, with various occurances throughout the week the side was depleted to 14 come ko. With Dan Scott suffering concosion, Loachy moved back to the row, he partnered Andy H & Greg who had missed the previous week with old man ailment. Haddo came into the 2nd row to partner Carl. VC Ross returned to the pack to play in the back row with Ben Hands. 1 man down. The backs were pleased to welcome back Captain JK, although there was some dount at the 11th hour as the family pet, Roger the Rabbit, fell ill and needed looking after. Text book Dean & Easty at 9 & 10. JK was joined in the centre by Super who took a week out from selling his body to medical sciences. Jas W moved back to wing & Matt Brown made his first start. Jonnah took the 15 shirt. So 4 players starting in same position as previous week.
The team got prepared & ko'd with 14 men, the team were quite up for this encounter & were only spurned on when comith the hour, comith the man ..... Gillam arrived to boost the side to 15 with the score still 0-0.
The Wheats scored 1st with Barrell making the 1st of his many hard running breaks of the afternoon & feeding Jonnah on his inside to turn on the afterburners & score under the posts. 0-7. Tech next up after some woeful tackling. 5-7. A period of good play delivered some quick ball for Matt Brown to score in the corner. 5-12. . Tech next up with the ball squirting out the back of a scrum. 10-12. Both sides enjoyed good spells of possession but Tech took the lead before half time with a penalty. 13-12.
Turning round with the wind at their backs the side were looking forward to the 2nd half. The Beast was having a delightful afternoon with the boot & struck a penalty for the side to make it 13-15. Loachy took the initiative at a free kick close to the line to make it 13-20. The Wheats were winning and just needed to close the game out, but tech kept going & ended up winning 23-20.
The above may be all incorrect, apologies, slight memory loss from writer.
Both sides suffered from some bizarre decisions & the game could have gone either way, but Tech stuck at it, and certainly counter rucked to good effect at times (Lesson learnt).
An improvement on the previous week, everyone played with more heart & can hold their head at least straight!
Disappoitning to be down to 14 for the start of a game - rally call!!!!
MOTM: usual suspects all put in big performances, but the Wet One ran hard all day & is now way out ahead as top try scorer.
March 21st - plans tbc.
Finally, Big Congratulations to Martin Ward on the birth of his baby daughter, Imogen. Time to try for the next baby now - we need some boys!
