Old Wheatleyans 15 - 44 Trinity Guild
CROTCHLESS
More changes this week for various reasons, Dan Scott came back into the front row with Loachy moving into the man row, the back row was an all different line up with Ben Hands back from gay injury, wrighty back from ski-ing & the Pig just back.
With JK been dealt with by Jonah during mid-week training the Barrel was back & moved to the centre and was joined by the returning D-Day. Lottery winner Haddo was back from travels to play on one wing & the love machine Gillam happy to play on the other.
All in all 12 changes from the side the previous week – a record?!
With some sort of misunderstanding over telling the time, the game did not get underway until 1445hrs. Hands Solo lost the toss & the Wheats played with the breeze in the 1st half.
Although not fully focussed or committed there was an improvement to the previous week & the Wheats scored 1st as Dean took a quick tap, beat 12 players before chipping over the 13th and slipping a beauty back inside for Ben Hands to dot down & beat the 14th. 5-0.
The Wheats were generally on top although scrum ball was failing to find its way back to the nr 8. Some non-exisitent defence at the back of a lineout on the half way line allowed Guild into to score. 5-7. The Beast struck a nice penalty to claw back the lead to 8-7. Guild scored next. 8-14. The remainder of the half saw the Wheats camped in the Guild 22 but failed to convert pressure to points, with some good defence & Wheats failure to up the anty. Half time 8-14.
The 2nd half was a totally different story, the snaffling pig left the field with gaids, but despite his claim this was not only reason the side got mauled in the 2nd half. It was also a pleasure to Matt Brown enter the fray after a long term injury lay off. The Guild scored some well worked tries with the Wheats missing many many tackles. Jas W got a consolation bosh try towards the death. Final score 15-44. Very disappointing.
Some good stuff, the backs looked dangerous at time with D-Day & Jonah gaining good yards, the forwards also worked hard, just something missing from the side at the minute? Some terrible tackling also deserves another mention. More nuts required next week.
In summary, the side were like a crotchless thong, functional and good looking up front, pretty and sleak at the back, but with a great big hole in the middle that allowed people through to score.
MOTM: Loachy & Ben Hands had another good game, but Wrighty was the hero of the day with some good lineout work, great chasing at re-starts and some medium-firm hits.
DOTD: Everyone who missed a tackle – all 16 of us then!
