Old Wheatleyans P - P Rugby Welsh
Glorious Conditions!
The Wheats looked forward to donning their kit this week and packing down for some enjoyable hard contested rugby.
With the usual club ignorance of not replying to messages re: availability it was a typical week, however, it was made slightly worse with Christ We're Rubbish At Rugby College, Cambridge stealing half the side. A big up to Gillam who only told us hours before KO he was putting in a big Judas. Lacey – were you really ill?
With 2 main strike players also unavailable in Easty & Loachy (on Safari) great efforts were made in enticing AB away from his luxurious lake side bench.
Ben Baines also made himself available for the 1st time in a long while.
Furthermore, Bettsy and the Adonis were also set to return from long term injury lay offs
Brad – where is Pat? U keeping him for yourself?
With all the above considered, the Wheats were set to field a much changed yet sexy and strong looking side.
The weather was extremely kind with bright sun, no wind and firm-medium ground conditions – perfect!
Between the hours of 1415 & 1545hrs on Saturday 16 February 2008 Stade Wheats put in their best performance for many a year, total 15man rugby. Backs & forwards interlinked like never seen before in this great game. The photo below shows the team in action:
This Week: 23.02.08 – it is likely we will be playing the re-arranged fixture vs Rugby Welsh. Saturday evening there are 3 great events to celebrate:
- Charlie Hands leaving do before he goes to represent the Wheats in Australia for a few months.
- England v France. KO 2000hrs. The Club in town has invested in a satellite dish, plasma screens etc – so we need to drink some beer to help pay for it.
- Finally, Big Skipper Neil Hodgkiss B’day celebration! A photo from the archive of Neil is shown below:
We will be in touch regarding the game this week as appropriate, but nevertheless Saturday night get together is a must for all!!
