2006 At Stade Wheats
Summary of ‘05/’06 Season
First half of the season (2005) the Wheats won just 2 games, during the 2006 stint of league games the Wheats were undefeated & finished 3rd. The ‘06/’07 season was looked forward to with much relish, enthusiasm & hope for promotion, but …………
Summary of ’06 League Games (‘06/’07 Season)
Manor Park: Lost 14-5.
Dominated much of the game only to give away 2 soft tries in the 2nd half.
Standard: Won 36-19
We were awful
Rugby Welsh: Lost 26-22
After conceding 14 early points and then going on to build a 22-14 lead with 10mins left – lost in last play of the game.
Trinity Guild Lost 28-17
20-0 down, brought it back to 20-17, gave up & lost 28-17.
Cov Saras Lost 23-22
Winning 22-10 with 15mins to go, started to worry about actually winning a game - lost in last play of the game.
Pinley Lost 58-20
Losing 29-20 with 15mins on the clock, wanted to aid Pinley’s point difference, final score 58-20.
Warwickians Draw 10-10
Losing 10-0 at half time (not sure how!), fought back to draw level at the final whistle.
Atherstone Lost 36-31
By far the best performance of the year in the 1st half – winning 26-0 at half time. 2nd half – least said soonest mended - lost in last minute of the game.
Coventrians Lost 6-5
5-0 up for most of the game, very spirited defending, lost 6-5 with last kick of the game. Shocker!
League Performances to date (out of 9 league games)
As can be seen below, in the 9Number 1st XV league games to date we have used just 49 players!!!!! & we still struggle for a 2nd XV some weeks??!!
The weekly changes are part of the reason the results read like they do, let’s try to improve things in ’07. The club is here for the players, in return the club needs some commitment from players to play as often as they possibly can.
All of the players below are capable of playing at a much higher level, but we are a young side & have a great future ahead – let’s stick together & make the Wheats into a top side. Become part of legacy!
Special mentions to Macca, Matt Brown & Mark Rubbery who have played in 8 out of the 9 league games to date. All have been there or there abouts for MOTM awards every week – so obviously there is something to be said for playing regularly!
Adam Brittain, Si H & James Gillam are the runners up playing 7 out of the 9 games. AB would have made 9 out of 9 but for his love of Ikea.
Top try scorer to date: Winger / Centre / Prop / Hooker: Jason “Adonis” Wetton.
At the end of the ‘06/’07 season there will be the following additional awards:
- For Playing 18 out of 18 league games. A cash prize of £1,000.00.
- For Playing 16 out of the 18 league games throughout the season: cash prize & free lap dance.
- For Playing 9 out of the 9 remaining league games: cash prize, 2 free lap dances, free beer for 1 night, an old wheats shirt (& the captains arm bad next year!).
- Neil Hodgkiss will receive a special award if he manages 80mins of 1 league game. GAY.
