If so, the North West Federation Young Referee Scheme can help you.
As well as refereeing at your own school or club, there are also opportunities to referee at other junior events in the Lancashire and Cheshire area. All these events count towards ELRA Level 3:
Ø State School Festivals - U13 & U14 Festivals take place mid-week, from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm, at different rugby clubs in the area.
Ø Developing Schools’ Leagues - take place mid-week at schools immediately after lessons for a maximum of 1½ hours.
Ø Lancashire Clubs U14 Junior Rugby Challenge Competition – matches take place at clubs on 7 Sunday mornings.
Ø Halbro U16 Colts League Competition – matches take place at clubs on Sunday mornings throughout the season.
Other opportunities include:
q Presentations – NWF JRS jerseys and Acme Thunderer whistles are presented at a Manchester Society meeting to Junior Referees who referee away from their own school or club. There are also various other awards which are given to Young Referees for distinguished service.
q Touch Judging – in association with an experienced referee at various major County Junior matches and Finals.
q Training Events – organised on a regular basis by Paul Renton, RFU Rugby Referee Manager (North). Topics include practical refereeing, lectures and watching Senior Referees with explanations from a Society assessor.
q Junior Membership – open to young persons above the age of 14 years, who have passed ELRA Level 3, and wish to referee on a regular basis. They receive appointments from the Society and are able to take part in Society activities.
q Mentor – the assignment of a member of the Referees’ Society to assist with the development of refereeing and progression into the Society.
q Full Membership – at 18 years or at an earlier age at the discretion of the Society Executive.
