Training Programme
For the second year running the course programme has been organised on a Federation basis and therefore open to members of the Manchester and Liverpool Societies.
Entry Level Referee Award (ELRA)
ELRA is delivered across the NW by our three regional trainers. Details of all courses nationally can be found on the RFU website. If you are aware of anyone who wants to take up refereeing please direct them to the website or get them to contact Will Halford, the RefDO: North via email at willhalford@rfu.com
Continuous Referee Development Award (CRDA)
This course has been designed to meet the needs of the majority of Society Referees in England. It is modular in design and will continue to be delivered as part of the Area Team meetings during the season in each Society. The course is about “development” and improvement
The course has been developed from the Entry Level Referee Award and a numbers of themes and approaches are common. The course may form the springboard to the Development Referee Award. However, it should be stressed that it is not intended that all modules have to be completed before progressing to the Development Referee Award. Equally completion of all of the modules does not mean automatic entry to the Development Referee Award. The Referee Development Manager along with the NW Development Squad Co-ordinator will weigh ‘Potential’ versus ‘Performance’ in making these decisions.
CRDA: Match Preparation and Personal Referee Development Planning
Thursday, 4th September, 2008. 7.00 – 9.00pm. Venue: TBC
This particular CRDA module will be run separately from the other modules. Evidence from many referees indicates that those who are the most successful at their level are able to reflect on their performance and their learning - this is a major aspect of the course. In order therefore to kick-start this approach a session has again been organise early in the season when Match Preparation and Personal Referee Development Planning will be the theme.
Any member who is interested in taking this course should contact Paul Renton (Manchester) or Geraint Davies (Liverpool).
Fitness Sessions
As both Societies are keen to promote the fitness of their referees, initial pre-season fitness testing sessions have been organised. These will be aimed mainly at members of the NW Federation Development Squad and Level 5, 6 and 7 referees. However, any other members who are interested can take part with the prior arrangement of either Society T&D Officer.
The Cooper Test (basic fitness test on a timed run on the track) will be organised for both Societies on Thursday, 21st August 2008, 8.00pm at Robin Park, Wigan
The RFU JAM Test will be held at Manchester Grammar School on Thursday, 28th August from 6.30pm to 9.00pm. Members from either Society should contact Paul Renton to arrange their particular session time during the evening as only two referees can be tested at any one time.
Development Referee Award
The Development Referee Award is aimed at referees who have completed the RFU Society Referee course and/or CRDA modules and wish to improve their knowledge and skills within a referee society.
