Here’s Chris Gill's report on the 2007/08 Annual Presentation Dinner
Following on from the mini/juniors last week, the senior section officially brought its very successful season to an end at the Presentation Dinner at the Hotel Victoria on Friday.
The First XV achieved honours in gaining league promotion and bagging the Skinner’s Brewery Cornwall Clubs’ Cup, while the Second XV challenged strongly in the Merit Table. So spirits were high and those assembled celebrated in traditional rugby fashion.
Throughout the proceedings, master of ceremonies, Andy Burbidge, assisted by Ashley Mann, spiced up the evening by making public some misdemeanours committed by various players and club members and applying “appropriate sanctions”. They subsequently paid the price, receiving similar sanctions themselves.
The club applied for and obtained RFU “Value the Volunteer” certificates and these were presented to clubmen, who contribute vast amounts in a wide range of ways. Club Chairman John Lampitt paid tribute to the efforts of several individuals before the traditional club awards were presented to the senior and colts players and club officials. A long evening of waxing lyrical then ensued.
