RSA II 43 v MPII 0
A bad day at the office for parks second string as they failed to gel and found it tough going against a young and determined St. Andrews outfit: Looking like it could be a close match, it was 25 mins into the half before a mistake by the attacking park three quaters saw the ball go loose as centre Bishop failed to control only for the Rugby defender pick up and break away to score under the posts. The rest of the half remained tight until Saints pack secured a 5 meter scrum and the back row broke through the struggling defence.
Turning round at 12 - 0 down the park outfit still felt they could take something from the game but it wasn't to be as the home pack began to dominate and parks defence struggled. After another early try the confidence built in the saints and attacks were coming thick and fast., Park conceded another soft try and matters were not helped when some questionable decisions gave the home team a free run in to end the match as a contest. At 31 down parks heads dropped along with the defence and conceded a further 2 unanswered scores.
2nd September Manor Park v Bedworth
Parks pre-season preparations looked to have been scupered after the referee deemed the pitch unplayable following some confusion with a retired groundsman and no line markings. Parks temporary groundstaff ( thanks Bruce) did well to get the pitch marked to the referee's satisfaction only to discover that the opposition hadn't showed and the fixture was off. A very disapointed 1st team then travelled short trip down the A444 to watch the 2nd team play thier fixture.
Parks 2nd string started well but the bigger, more experienced Bedworth pack dominated the early set pieces forcing park to live off scraps and testing the defence at every oportunity. 25 minutes into the half the Bedworth forwards finally found the line as the No5 struggled through from a rolling maul for the points. The encounter was well balanced untill the home side again found the gap and scored another unconverted try making the score 10 - 0 at the break.
After agreeing with the home team captain and the referee park had a plethora of available replacements and made several changes using the fixture as another trial. The pace in the back line and mobility of the pack made life awkward for the tiring Bedworth pack. Moving the ball wide park began to look convincing and barring some unforced handling errors looked sharp and in control. It was now only a matter of time before park were to get on the score board and the big crowd didn't have to wait long as some fantastic forward play took park down into the opposition 22 and quick handling gave Madison the gap to get his 3rd of the year so far.
The visitors were now dominating in all areas and Bennet soon broke through the ailing defence for the equaliser. Park the took the lead after some fantastic three quarter work saw wing man Gatherham zip past his opposite number giving Brightmore an easy conversion. It was the same story as park scored another converted try through Davey making the score 24 - 10, but never ones to lie down Bedworth mauled thier way back over the Manor try line and when the bodies were pulled away the referee signalled for the try making the final score a respectable 24-15.
