Report:
Knottingley started their home campaign with an emphatic victory over
well-drilled opposition. Straight
from the kick off Knottingley were under pressure from a very well organised
pack and soon found themselves a converted try down.
Knottingley
were finding it quite hard to win possession though the elements had a lot to do
with spilling the ball on numerous occasions. To add to their woes Knottingley
conceded another score, the conversion attempt sliding wide.
After stern
words from skipper Ian Beach, Knottingley up the tempo with some fine interplay
between backs and forwards, which lead to scrumhalf scoring a fine try, Graham
Steadman adding the extras.
Knottingley's
lead was increased when back rower Dave Stead powered his way over, the
conversion attempt narrowly missing.
At 12 - 12 at
half time Knottingley fancied their chances of a victory. With the wind and rain now on their
backs, Graham Steadman directed things with his trusty left boot, pegging
Doncaster back in their own 22.
Knottingley
took advantage of the position and possession to run in tries from Beach,
O'Rourke, John Alexander and Graham Steadman (2), Steadman also landed 2
conversions.
This was an
excellent team performance from all involved. Knottingley's superior fitness and
skills pulled them through of what could have been a tricky encounter. It was nice to see some old faces
returning to the fold in the shape of Steve Hood and Mark Tankard.
