Knottingley
continued their unbeaten start to the season with a close, hard fought victory
over their near neighbours.
The attack of both teams tested and probed for weaknesses
in the oppositions defence, but steadfast and determined tackling meant that
scoring opportunities were at a premium.
Knottingley were the first to threaten the try line
following strong forward play by James Raywood, Robert Nicholls and Tom
Fitzsimmons to set up field position from which quick handling by Benny Tucker,
Gino Burnett, Terence Link resulted in Ben Reynolds being stopped inches from
the whitewash by desperate last ditch tackling.
The deadlock was eventually broken by Lock lane, who scored
out wide to take the lead. Knottingley were soon level after Asher Hoyle had
broke clear from in front of his own sticks to race to within 20m of the tryline
before being tackled. Two further plays saw James Mattin crash over despite the
attentions of two would-be tacklers. Tucker converted the extras to give
Knottingley a slender half-time lead.
The second half commenced with a sustained period of
Knottingley domination in which they scored three tries. Tucker, Curtis
Macdonald and Tom Langdale all crossed for tries that were created on the back
of hard work from Ryan Neilson, Aiden Smart,Nicky Beach
and Mikey Dalton.
Sensing that victory was
close, complacency crept in and Knottingley were found guilty of making
uncharacteristic errors from which
Lock Lane
capitalized. Two quick tries were
scored reducing the arrears to four points.
The game came to a nail-biting conclusion
when Tucker foiled another Lock Lane attack by safely collecting a neat chip after
determined defence from Nicholls, Mattin, Burnett, Raywood and
Reynolds.
Liyam
Laraba, Alan Foster and Liam Kitchen all made valuable contributions in this
hard earned win.
