Knottingley 33 Hessle

Knottingley got
their quest for Twickenham on the road with a win away at Hessle. Knottingley
started much better than last week and dominated the opening exchanges and were
14 points to the good after 20mins with try's from Sonia, after good work from
the forwards, & Ash, who was put under the posts by Coutts, both converted
by Paul Rockett.
However, after 20mins Knottingley decided to
stray away from the game plan with everyone wanting the ball. This led to fight
back from Hessle and a very disappointing period of play which culminated
with Hessle's only points, a try 5 minutes after ½ time. The only highlight of
this period was the resolute defence led superbly by Ian Attack.
The next ten minutes were stalemate until good
play from Wright & Langton put Steve Seed under the posts. This put the
result beyond doubt and further tries were added by Mark Woolford, who made a
big impact on his return to the first team, & Paul Rocket, with Rocket
converting two of three second half tries. The final; score was 33

There
were plenty of positives to come out of the game and in cup rugby any win away
from home is a good result; however Knottingley must learn two things from this
game. When they have early pressure they must score points and put teams away,
and also when the game appears easy, as it did in the first ten minutes, they
must stick to the game plan and this will enable them to achieve much more
comfortable victories.
