Year Summary 2005
Kendal's second season in National League 3 North was again a season of mixed results and inconsistent performances. The highlight being their excellent run in the RFU Powergen National knockout competition, finally going out with a fight (16-22) at home to Waterloo in the fourth round after defeating Longton and Reading at Mint Bridge, before travelling South to London to play Richmond in third round, and coming away with an excellent 18-13 victory - the first Richmond had suffered since reforming six seasons ago.
The League was an entirely different matter. They played some brilliant rugby in patches, especially on their own turf at Mint Bridge. They only lost at home to Champions Halifax by 10-17 on the first Saturday of the season and produced excellent displays of open running rugby against both Bradford & Bingley and Cleckheaton, unfortunately they could not repeat these performances away from home and lost heavily at Macclesfield (probably the worst display of the season) and Tynedale (despite scoring 4 tries).
Home victories over Bedford Athletic and Darlington followed by a win away at Dudley the Saturday before Christmas placed them in mid table.
After a four week layoff they travelled to Rugby Lions and with a very good all round performance won by 23-8 - only their second away League victory and, as it turned out, their last of the season.
The following week they defeated New Brighton at Mint Bridge, but unfortunately only managed to secure three more League victories for the rest of the season finally securing their National League status on the penultimate Saturday of the season at home against Blaydon (12-8).
Kendal did however have the League's second highest try scorer in right wing John Ladell who scored nineteen.
