15/02/09 - Jarrovians U12's v Sunderland U12's
Game 1
In an enjoyable and highly competitive match Jarrow snatched a deserved draw with a well drilled Sunderland team.
With prop forwards Lee Treleavan and Dan Atkinson giving some parity in the scrum the home sides backs had good ball to use and Jordan Campbell, Mark Pude and Kyle Donaghy all made excellent breaks. Newcomer Jack Heighes showed his worth with some fine tackles and full-back Ryan Erskine was a continual threat coming into the line time after time. Indeed it was the marauding full back who opened the scoring for Jarrow, touching down after fine work in the ruck by Aiden O'Doherty and Ben Winthrop.
However this gave Sunderland a wake up call an they stormed into the lead with 3 tries of their own just before the interval. Jarrow though were not about to take this lying down and the home side hit back imediately after the break, Jordan Campbell scoring the try following an excellent charge down by Connor Brown.
Jarrow continued to press forward and with the game drawing to a close scrum half Charlie Winn-Davison picked up from the back of the scrum and jinked clear to score. He then picked himself up and slotted home the conversion which levelled the scores.
Final Score: Jarrovians 21 Sunderland 21
Game 2
This game could have gone either way with both teams having periods of ascendency. Tyler Davison and Connor Deakin were both to the fore for Jarrow making the hard yards in attack and bone crunching tackles in defence. Chris Convery at prop made a welcome return from injury and provided his team-mates with good solid ball all day. From one of these balls Jamie Lee Atkinson made one of his incisive breaks only to be denied short of the line. And unfortunately it was Sunderland who scored the first, and ultimately only try of the game from a quick taken penalty.
Jarrow came back strongly and only spirited Sunderland tackling stopped both Mark Traill and Aiden Horsley from scoring. Ethan Liddle had a strong game for Jarrow with some strong driving play but in the end it was to no avail.
Final Score : Jarrovians 0 Sunderland 7
01/02/09 Jarrovians U12's v Gateshead U12's
An entertaining and very competitive game was enjoyed by a large crowd at Lukes Lane on Sunday.
After a bright opening by the Jarrow forwards it was the visitors who were first to strike with a fine try in the corner. However it was not long before Jarrow struck back with a unconverted try of their own, Kyle Donaghy going over following strong work from George Smith and Connor Deacon. And it was the home side who scored next with Mark Pude powering over. Unfortunately a spell of Gateshead pressure just before ther break resulted in them retaking the lead.
Jarrow used the interval to make a couple of changes an it was one of these replacements, Mark Trail, that a made an immediate impact. The prop forward was instrumental in an excellent piece of driving play which saw Joe Nettleton cross over in the corner.
With Jarrow now firmly on top, half backs Charlie Winn-Davison and Jordan Campbell linked up well allowing the fly half to score and extend the lead. More chances came for Jarrow and victory was finally guaranteed when Mark Pude scored his second of the game, sealing a wonderful flowing move involving Jamie Lee Atkinson an Aidan Horsley. Pude then slotted over his fourth conversion to leave Jarrow worthy winners.
Final Score: Jarrovians 33 Gateshead 14
