History of the Jarrovians
Formed in 1978 by a group of players forced out of Hebburn Technical College after approximately 10 years. The club name and spelling was discussed prior to the application put forward to Durham RFU - proposed by T.D.S.O.B, seconded by B.B.O.B, subsequently accepted under a "transfer" from the original club.
Playing fields were investigated from
1. Monkton (local councillor did not want her daughter to mix with rough boys)
2. Bede Burn Road (too close to two schools)
3. Leslie playing Fields, Hebburn ("Secret" sale for houses to be built)
4. So final offer a pitch on Luke's Lane playing fields..
Plans for change of strips never came about since the old Hebburn players "donated" their strips - Gold / Black hoops.
First officials of the new club were,
David Hill - Secretary
Andy Wood - Chairman
David Dunn - Vice Chairman
Eddie Pollock - Treasurer
Tony Brown - Fixtures Sec
Andy Wood - Captain
Michael Campbell - President
