Saturday 4th September sees the start of our League campaign against a strong and talented Ponteland 2nd team. Preparation for the season has been fragmented with a lack of players available through injury, holidays etc. We are under no illusions that this season will be harder than last, that has been our intention as we seek to improve as players and as a club. Last season saw strength in our discipline and camaraderie, that needs to continue. We must continue to play as a team and support each other through thick and thin.New additions to the squad will allow us to deal with any unfortunate absences during the season.
Don't anyone underestimate their importance to the club. First team, second team, committee, supporters, you all have a part to play in making this club re establish itself and your continued support and loyalty is appreciated.
Please ensure a good attendance on Saturday for the club and appropriate dress is required!
Lets play smart and look smart and make everybody in rugby sit up and pay attention to who and what we are, a cracking rugby club!!

Its been a difficult couple of weeks and the injuries seem to be mounting up just as we need that final push to end the season.
Disappointment all round after a narrow defeat in the semi final, losing by one try and conversion. What we all saw in the first half against Chester's best team of the season was a superb performance and once again proved that you are good enough! Ultimately the sending off, injuries and fitness took its toll.
A weakened side in terms of experience travelled to Durham City and paid the price, all be it some of the tactics by a certain opponent had no place on a rugby pitch. Credit to those who did what they could in difficult circumstances. Whatever anybody says they can't deny our attitude and comittment.
Last week saw another league game against Mowden Park a narrow defeat in this one, however as in most games of rugby there is normally only a couple of decisions or incidents that make the difference between winning and losing. it wasn't to be our day.
I don't want anyone's heads dropping or confidence to dip because of the last couple of weeks, don't let those results undermine the progress and ability we have shown this season.
Whilst we all know there is a long way to go in terms of improvement, we have started the journey and it will get better and better. Don't forget playing rugby with your mates and doing what you can for each other to win is what its all about, make sure you enjoy every moment of it, win lose or draw there is nothing like a cracking game of rugby.
Last league game of the season is Saturday against Horden lets get to the last training session of the season on Thursday and then turn out Saturday to finish with a win and then a good drink in the clubhouse!
I will update our league position before Saturday, although I am not confident we can still win it, so lets finish as high up as we can!
Get your tickets for the end of season do on Friday 30th April at the Friendly Hotel Boldon. Players player and 1st and 2nd team player of the season awards up for grabs!!
Thanks to everyone who turned up at the semi final sorry we couldn't get the result we wanted...onwards and upwards!!

Not long to go folks the end of the season is nigh!
Houghton cancelled so we arranged a home game against a very competitive North Shields 2nds. Tries were scored from all over the place, even Burnsy and Arraz got on the score sheet! An excellent 31 - 6 win was just what we deserved. Barry Walker continued from where he left off and got a deserved MoM. Next game saw us away to Sunderland and one we all want to forget as quickly as possible! Losing 15 - 12 was bad enough but the performance was dreadful and no excuse for it!
Bad memories dispeled this weekend with a superb victory against Barnard Castle, the most exciting thing about this victory was the attitude and response of the players who played. In addition we had 2 brand new lads as cover and replacement. We would not have won without them, as Nick Hepple took a knock early on and we lost Flaps in the second half. Young Barney and Mick came on and did an excellent job, including a try from young Mick, who looked very confident and cocky! Whilst the skipper got MoM it was down to the teams response after his pep talk, definately not to do with pace strength or tackling!!
I had some positive discussions with a cross section of players from the club in relation to our direction of travel for next season it was extremely informative and thank you to everyone who participated. That includes the comments and ideas provided in the questionnaire. I intend to give a summary of those discussions and questionnaire at the AGM (Date to follow). whilst I dont want to steal my own thunder, the most important ingredient of next season will be the continued commitment from everyone at the club, especially training and attendance on Saturdays. We have a fantastic number of players available and that must continue along with further recruitment, so start getting your mates to come along and give us a go!
Tour in a couple of weeks so all you cavemen bring those clubs and pet dinosaurs!! (That doesn't include wifes or girlfriends!! Only kidding ladies!)
Cup semi Thursday 8th April 6.15 KO. We can win, we are good enough but it needs that commitment from everyone to attend to play, be replacement or support the club please do your best to be there!
End of dinner dance 30th April, be there it promises to be a brilliant night make sure you invite your mates and family as long as they are old enough to drink!
The Second team deserve special mention for their recent performances, the fixtures have been tough, some of the teams they have played are an excellent standard and are flying in their respective junior leagues. The never say die attitude by all has been inspiring, every week I am looking for replacements from the second team and every week they step up to the mark! without that support we would not be as successful as we have been, thanks.
Next update after Tour (Probably at least a couple of days after, if youn know what I mean?)
Did I mention the skipper got MoM against Barnard Castle!!

Games are still hard to come by due to the wet weather, that said we got a run out at the College. We provided 21 players they had 7. However such is the attitude at our club we mixed it around and played a game of rugby, had a beer and went home (Well some of us!). The following week Sunderland cried off due to a waterlogged pitch. This was disappointing as we strive to play and win as many league games as possible to stand a chance of finishing top!
This week saw a friendly against a very good and very fit Guisborough seconds. Things got tough from the start as several players were unavailable and we lost both the vice capt Gary Archbold and fly half Claymore after 15 minutes. We lost 33 - 5. However we battled until the end and thanks to the team we had it was not all doom and gloom.
Next week sees a league game against Houghton. From now until the end of the season I want to ask all the players at the club to work their socks off, by turning up at training and being available every Saturday possible and make sure that we win every game. That will mean we have an excellent chance of winning our league and winning a cup final! We deserve recognition for our season and what better way than some silverware?
Today saw 47 players, members, parents and juniors buy tickets for the Falcons game against Bath. It was an excellent day and as a result of their attendance we hope to have one of the Falcons players available to provide a training session in summer. Thank you to all who supported the event!
A special mention to some new recruits, Aaron who scored his first try in the college game, Chris who is looking to get back into rugby after a bad injury and Adam, welcome lads!

Thought it would be an appropriate date to update the blog! This is the first update of the New Year and things at the club continue to grow and grow, both on and off the pitch.
The snow has been a pain, as it has for all the clubs. That said on the pitch the first team have seen wins against Consett 3rds and Seghill 1sts and yesterday we had our toughest test of the season against a strong Gateshead 2nds. We were quite magnificent and did not deserve to lose 12 - 7. It was a very proud moment to see how far the club has come in the last 6 months. In addition the second team have been able to continually put a side out every week and the performances and camraderie has been outstanding.
Planning permission has been given for Floodlights and the work is under way. Hopefully helping to improve our training facilities. In relation to training the turn out has been fantastic considering previous years. The commitment and effort is appreciated.
We sit top of the league by 3 points, but Durham City are breathing down our necks, we need to keep winning and not get complacent. We have a cup semi final in 2 weeks time, I am confident we are capable of getting to the final and then who knows....?
Thank you to everyone at the club who continue to support me. The guys behind the bar for keeping things going, the second team for putting the pressure on the first team players. Thank you to the first team squad for their selfless attitude towards the team and the club. Team selection is getting tougher and tougher with so many players to choose from, but thats what we want.
We have a long way to go but we are well on our way. Lets keep enjoying it and roll on the league the cup the tour and end of season dinner!!

Been an excellent period since the last update. We remain top of our league and are in excellent shape to stay there. That said we can only achieve that if we continue to maintain the attitude and commitment from the whole club.
The squad mentality has been tremendous and everyone of the players is doing their bit to keep the momentum going.
We have had 3 excellent victories against good opposition whilst losing 2 games to even better opposition in Bishop Auckland, who had their first team game cancelled and Mowden Park who have a first team playing in a top league. Both games we could have won with a little more luck and a little more effort.
The second team continue to put out a team most weeks, which is brilliant for the young and old and the club as a whole.
Barry Walker has been out with injury for the last 3 weeks, hopefully he is able to return for the last game of this year against Gateshead 4ths. Andy Stanton has filled the void and will make things tough for Barry when he comes to reclaim his place.
The back row is full of talent and they have all responded perfectly to my selections on a Saturday. Such has been the impact of our back row players the last 3 weeks has saw Dave Johnson get 2 MoM and Chris Hastie 1. That said they are the first to admit that recent performances and results have been down to the whole team! Nick Hepple has been outstanding at Full Back and is joy to watch with his powerful and scintilating pace. The front 3 have been awesome on the scrums. Nathan has given an extra dimesion to our play with his powerful running and big attitude. Craig Donald has now made an honest woman of Jane so we expect him back next week. Jamie Broadway has been fantastic at responding to my requests to cover all over the pitch. At Jarrow the guy is an Icon and invaluable to the heart and sole of this club.
Dave Winthrop continues to support us at training and Seagal and Greenwood have filled in at short notice to maintain training, thanks to them.
Already we need to start thinking and planning for next season, coaching and training, new additions to the squad to ensure strength in depth and 2 games every week, so we all get a game of rugby. We need to be ready to hold our own in the league above. I am certain we can, as long as we are realistic and prepare ourselves for a tough game every week. You views are valued and required, without this squad of players we have nothing. You have a part to play.
The young lads are looking great both at training and in matches, they can all be proud of their commitment and talent.
Thanks to everyone who has supported me, especially my vice Captain Gary Archbold and Chairman Brian Berry.
One more game to go, then a well deserved break until 1st January against our old friends and foes Westoe at Lukes Lane.

Since the last blog the club have gone from strength to strength.
The second team travelled to Seghill and put in a sterling performance. The youngsters along with their mentors continue to do the club proud.
The following week saw the 1sts play at North Shields. It was the toughest game yet but we were unbeatable in defence and ran out 7 - 0 winners. Whilst it was an even game, not once did we ever feel the opposition could break us down. The tackling was immense and the attitude of everyone was superb.
This Saturday saw us return to league action against Durham 3rds. After losing a try in the first minute, you would have been excused for thinking that we would get hammered, wrong!! The team have shown what they are made of, their self belief along with their talent commitment and discipline showed again and again. We ran out easy winners in the end by 32 - 15. This put us at the top along with Westoe and Sunderland, so we still have a long way to go. Young Archie scored 4 tries, the backs got 2 tries, one being a storming score by Nic Hepple. Such was the forwards performance as a pack, MoM went to prop Nathan Harris. Nathan has been an excellent addition to the squad and he brings with him a lot of talent and experience, this is also true of Joe Watson who has been excellent these last couple of weeks. Martin and Barry continue to develop into a cracking partnership. Hepple has found a niche at fullback and has been a revelation. Craig Donald steers the backs again and again. Archie has been excellent as scrum half and vice captain, although Craig might not think so with some of his passing out of the scrums!? Our abundance of back rows continues to give me a nice headache, I dread the day they all turn up for the same game!! Chunky provides the old captain with a helping hand every week in the second row, however I know work commitments will limit his availability so we need that squad mentality to ensure we have the cover when required. Bobby, Brian, Nathan, Tiff and Arraz keep our front row battling every week, thanks lads. Training has been excellent these last couple of weeks. A reflection of how far the club has come and how commited and determined the players are. Also another big thank you in recognition of Davey Winthrop our trainer. (Just need to get him on a pitch for more than 40 mins!!). Aiden Berry has offered an hour's input on catching balls!!! I am sure those of you there on Saturday will agree the Skipper could do with a few hours!!
We have seen some new recruits arrive and hopefully this will continue and ensure the club continue moving forward for this season and all the others to come.
Keep up the effort guys and don't forget Captains night this weekend which will include a visit to Pelaw social club for Joe Watson's engagement party.
11/10/09
Saturday gone saw a fantastic performance from the team which culminated in a 43 - 18 win. The forwards continued to impress and the backs were quite simply scintilating. This has been a good reflection on the numbers attending training. Please keep up the good work!
We continue to try our best to get games for the second team, unfortunately it has not been as easy as hoped. That said Saturday 17th Oct will see Skipper Willie lead a team out at home against Seghill 2nds. Good luck for that one boys.
The first team hope to have a league game against Washington 2nds in the league.
A big thank you to Davie Winthrop who continues to push us hard at training.
New additions to the club include Yousef and Mick. Both are looking excellent and will provide a challenge for all those wishing to be in the starting line up on a saturday.
Keep up the effort lads, things are definately positive at the club!
By the way I promise to wear the Captains Kilt next month, unless I can persuade Heppy!!
27/9/09
Blow me down with a little feather! Saturday gone saw 31 Jarrow lads have a game of rugby. An "in club" game due to Houghton 2nds cancelling our fixture. The game was played at an excellent pace in tough warm conditions. We saw the future of Jarrow on the pitch and their was much to be pleased with. Adam Shotton, Matthew Bengston, Martin Bengston, Shaun Lisle, Ryan Pargeter, young Chris and Jack. All played well and gave their elders a run for their money.
The previous week saw Westoe defeat Jarrovians 24 - 0. As I have already reported it did not reflect our performance. Particular praise for Barry Walker and Martin Bengston. Davie Winthrop took the role of hooker at my bequest, other players responded to my call and once again we saw a real squad effort.
The previous week saw an excellent victory for Jarrow against Barnard Castle 22 - 16. Some brilliant performances individually and collectively. Discipline was spot on and that played a part in our victory.
As I have said more than once my selection on a saturday is based on a strong squad. not everyone will be available every week so we need numbers. We are all looking over our back at some of these young lads and new additions. Nobody is safe for certain selection, what a nice dilemma to have!!
Training continues twice a week, however I am looking at when or if we will change to one evening
Hoping to have 2 games sorted for this coming staurday, please try and get there if you can.
Two games since the last blog. Friendly against South Tyneside College which saw Big Chunk get "man of the match".
The next match against Gateshead Fell 4ths saw a tremendous turnout and performance. Playing against a big side splattered with experience from ex Gateshead's first team players, Jarrow once again tested their opposition to the end, a close game that ended 15 - 12 to Gateshead. As stated before, this season requires a squad of players, with lads working the next couple of weeks and a couple of injuries we need everyone to continue making the effort to get to training and turn up on a saturday.
Its early days but I want to thank the club for the effort and support they have given me and the players for their response and commitment on the field. This saturday sees our first league game against Barnard Castle seconds at home
. Another tough game against good opposition, but we laugh in the face of adversity, and relish the challenge. Lets put them on their backsides!!
As the season dawns, we commenced our journey with a tough pre season training match against Seaham.
An excellent turnout all things considering! Some tremendous individual performance and a cracking team effort.
Although we lost 17 - 14, this match was about attitude, discpline and commitment. The players responded with all three!!
We need to get a more regular and consistant attendance at training on the Tuesdays and Thursdays, for those of you who have shyed away from the stamina training, we now look to concentrate on some ball work and moves within the Pack and Backs. Davie Winthrop has provided an excellent schedule for the training, so lets give him our full support.
This season is not going to be easy, we have some tough games to play in the competitive second team league, but if we work on our moves and continue to increase our fitness, then I am more than confident we can have a successful season. Just like Seaham showed, we will often play against bigger and potentially faster players, however on Saturday the tackling was brilliant I was extremely impressed and proud of the commitment shown.
It's not the size of the man in the fight but the size of the fight in the man"
Another plus was the discipline of my team, that will play a major factor in our success on the pitch, bearing in mind you are no good in the "Bin"
It will be a first team squad rather than team, that means everyone in that squad will have a part to play in support of the club's success on and off the pitch. Injuries, work commitments, personal circumstances will impact on a Saturday, so I need your commitment, support and patience.
Don't forget Club Gear on a Saturday, be proud of who we are and who we play for!
There is a league to win and we are already in the semi final of the cup!!
So its onwards and upwards!!!
Next training match on Saturday 29th August away to our old friends and rivals South Tyneside College.
