Our playing ethos.
Welcome to Haslemere U7s (school year 2) and U6s (school year 1) rugby. Our aim is to:
We play every Sunday from September to April (bar Christmas, New Year and Easter), with home sessions running from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Everyone is welcome to turn up at the ground to come and see if their children like it. Fresh air and fun, exercise and some gentle competition is a great tonic for Sunday mornings (plus a beer afterwards for parents). Normal training involves a warm up, various practice events to improve key skills and some fun games.
Being warm and cosy is good, so kids need to come dressed for the weather. As it gets colder, wear layers of T-shirts under rugby jerseys (or fleece), tracksuit bottoms, wooly hat and gloves (not the thin rugby gloves). Please also bring a water bottle. Coaching will not be cancelled if it is merely cold, wet and miserable – we just run around more and limit the length of session accordingly. Only if pitches are frozen or absolutely waterlogged will coaching be cancelled – if you think this may be the case, please watch the website in the early morning for notices.
Give your child a couple of sessions to decide if they like the game before paying the subs and buying kit. We have two forms to fill in when you do commit – the RFU Registration (free and a once-only registration – essential for festivals) and the Club Membership Form (required yearly with subs cheque). Both forms are elsewhere in the website to print, fill out and bring along.
As well as having home training sessions, we have matches against other clubs (both home and away) and Festival tournaments (where 4 or more teams play on a league and the knockout basis). The kids absolutely love these. For the first few weeks of each season we train the Under 7s with the Under 6s together but eventually the children will train on different pitches although next to each other.
The whole Haslemere Rugby Club runs on a volunteer basis. We encourage as many Dads (and Mums!) as possible to don their boots and tracksuits to help with the coaching. Nothing but enthusiasm required; it is how we all started out and it is much better than shivering on the touchline. We like parents/guardians to stay unless they have agreed with someone else to take responsibility. We also have catering duties periodically and hope that people will contribute willingly here. The Club does have insurance and a CRB checking policy.
So do come and join us for some really great fun rugby.
When you get up to the club we can be found through the gap in the hedge to the left of the full sized rugby pitches on our relatively new grounds. We will make you and your children very welcome.
Our season starts on Sunday 4th September 2011 and we train from 10am until 12pm each sunday with the exception of Easter, Christmas and New Years day.
