Course Descriptors
Tag (3 Hours focussed at U7 upwards - suitable for teacher/ coaches/ leaders to introduce the non contact game)
- Introduce Tag rugby
- Deliver a Tag rugby session
- Plan a progressive series of Tag rugby sessions
- Describe RFU Playing & Coaching pathways and the role of Tag within it
- Use basic generic coaching skills
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the laws of Tag rugby
- Referee a small sided Tag rugby game
Start Rugby Coaching (3 hour course focused at U9 upwards)
- An introduction course designed to help new coaches begin rugby coaching.
- Help coaches develop some coaching skills and acquire technical knowledge to help deliver rugby and be better prepared to move onto the Level 1 Coaching qualification.
Coaching Contact / Tackle Safety (3 hour course focussed at U9 upwards)
- Awareness of contact situations, contact warm-up’s and the introduction of contact.
- Contact with an opponent on feet
- Developing contact with an opponent on feet
- Contact with an opponent on the ground
- Coach the tackle safely
- To raise awareness of safety issues relevant to coaching a rugby team.
Core Skills – technical focus & game sense (3 hour course – all age groups)
- Handling – receipt and passing (miss pass)
- Running lines
- Switch / Scissors / loop
- Evasion (1 v 1)
- Support play; 2v 1, 3 v 2; 5 v 3
Scrummage Clinic (2 hour course focussed at cluster requirement)
- Basic technical introduction (Objectives and Safety)
- Progressive technical aspects
- Defensive roles and responsibilities
- Attacking options
- Decision making in different areas of the pitch
Lineout Clinic (2 hour course focussed at cluster requirement)
- Basic technical introduction(Objectives and Safety)
- Progressive technical aspects
- Defensive roles and responsibilities
- Attacking options
- Decision making in different areas of the pitch
CLA (Community Leaders Award – 6 hour course focussed for those aged 14 upwards)
- Provide an in-depth understanding of coaching, officiating of tag rugby and volunteering for the game of rugby union.
- Targets involvement within the running and administration of a club / school festival or coaching session. Ideal for half term events within clubs – Minimum 12 per course.
SAQ (3 Hour workshop - Pre-cursor to other SAQ® Awards (P-Award, M-Award, SEN Award and I-Diploma) Workshop attendees will receive a Workshop Manual
