Force for Wood – that’s RBS Rugby Force

Tom WoodTom Wood returned to his childhood club Barkers’ Butts RFC on Friday, February 18. The England forward took the short trip from his family home to visit the club to help promote RBS RugbyForce, the community volunteer programme that helps clubs improve their facilities. Throughout the day, Tom stressed how the club aided his development during his younger years, highlighting the importance of grassroots rugby. Bill Beaumont to attend Injured Players Foundation match

Injured Players Foundation

Former England captain and rugby legend Bill Beaumont will be steaming into the Didcot rugby club's Edmonds Park ground on Sunday, (Feb 27) on his way back from the previous day’s international at Twickenham, to meet the teams playing in the second Martin Llewellyn Memorial Cup game (12.30pm)

Beaumont is the captain of the RFU Injured Players Foundation Ambassador XV, an august array of 15 former players who support the charity.

Last year’s inaugural match between the Didcot 1st XV and Didcot Past raised £10,000 for the Injured Players Foundation and hopes are high that they can even top that this time around. “We were stunned last year, we were expecting half that,” admitted organiser John Galpin, himself seriously injured while playing back in 2009. It’s very much a fun day and last year’s match saw over 40 former Didcot players pulling on a jersey to play for the Didcot Past side.

England back-row man James Haskell has donated an England shirt signed by the entire 2011 squad, while autographed items from Jamie Oliver, Tim Henman and darts legend Phil Taylor, will all be auctioned during the evening festivities at the Marlborough Club in Didcot.
