Message
from John Steele
|
|
|
|
I would like to thank
all those CBs who have hosted question and answer sessions with Martyn
Thomas and myself over the last two months.
So far we have been to Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset & Wilts, Yorkshire,
Bucks, Eastern Counties, Hertfordshire and have Essex (December 6) and
Surrey (December 9) to come before Christmas.
These visits are invaluable to us in meeting volunteers and getting to the
heart of issues that matter to the game. Please pass on our thanks to all
involved.
We are keen that these sessions should not just be a ‘talking shop’ so we
will follow up with the relevant people on specific questions asked during
the evenings.
Diaries for everyone are presenting a challenge but the roadshows will
continue next year, and I look forward to visiting more CB’s and clubs
then.

Law
variations in women's matches
|
|
|
|
In recent weeks, a number of clubs have informed us that referees
have been applying incorrect Laws to their Women’s’ matches. This is by no
means widespread; however, referee societies have been asked to remind
their referees of the appropriate Law variations. The following link
to download the RFUW Law Card 2010-11 may prove useful.

Constituent
Body Conference 2010
|
|
|
|
The Constituent Conference
Report 2010 has been mailed to CBs and clubs in the November
edition of Touchline and provided electronically to all delegates. We trust
you will find it an interesting read and reflective of some of the
experiences and insights from clubs already living the One New Team goal.
Feedback about how CBs are helping their clubs gain ‘One New Team’ is most welcome.

E-CRB
Applications
|
|
|
|
The RFU Safeguarding Team is pleased to report that there has been a
significant uptake in clubs applying for CRB checks on the new fully online
system. In the first six weeks of operation 25% of applications came in
through the new system. During that period the Criminal Records Bureau
reported that paper applications took them 21 days on average to be
processed whereas the online ones took 7 days on average. Several club
applications have been turned around in 48 hours using the new
system. “The new CRB e-application system is fantastic,” said Alan
Roberts of Old Cryptians RFC. “We have now completed three CRB checks
all done in less than a week; I can take my laptop to the rugby club and do
multiple checks at one time making it a lot easier to do. It is a vast
improvement on the old system. Well done to you and your team.”
For more information or to get set up on the new system contact Chris
Rawlings on chrisrawlings@rfu.com or 0208 831 7454.

JustGiving
for Sports Clubs who are CASC registered
|
|
|
|
The JustGiving for Sports Clubs scheme enables CASCs to raise money
through the JustGiving website without having to pay the monthly
subscription fee (worth £180 per year). This helps clubs raise money online
and makes it easier for them to take advantage of Gift Aid on donations.
More information about the scheme and details on how to register can be
found at the JustGiving website www.justgiving.com/sportsclubs. Please read the case summary
based on how Farnham RUFC has made use of JustGiving over the five months,
raising over £23,000 (including £4,000 of Gift Aid).

16-24?
Your Game, Your Voice, Get it Heard
|
|
|
|
The RFU National Youth Council (NYC) is a group of ten 16 -24 year
olds from around the country, involved in all aspects of the game, working
to bring the views of young people to the attention of the Rugby Football
Union. To kick start this, they have just launched a nationwide youth
survey to find out what it is like to be involved in rugby union right
now. Whatever their role, young people have an opinion and we want to
hear it. Please forward the survey to your youth members:
