Coaching
Coaching within the game of rugby continues to move forward apace. The coach licensing scheme began for all coaches taking formal coaching courses from 1 Jan 2008. All coaches involved in the 15-man game can apply for their coaching licence from 1 Sep 2008. I encourage all coaches within the County to apply for their licence at the earliest opportunity; it is free!
With a coaching licence comes a responsibility to participate in continuous personal development (CPD). A minimum of one module per year has to be completed to maintain the validity of your licence. Details of the full CPD programme for both the Bristol Area and the Gloucester Area will be published in due course.
Are you in the twilight of your playing career and interested in remaining in the game as a coach or you would like to function as a player/coach? As part of the RFU Play on retention campaign, funds are available to subsidise your coaching course. For full details please go to the GRFU website at: http://clubs.rfu.com/Clubs/portals/GloucestershireRFUCB/
The aim of the GRFU Coaching Team remains the sustained improvement of coaching standards at all levels of the game. We will provide strategic lead for coaching policy, recruitment and development. Schools and clubs are encouraged to contact any members of the sub-committee to discuss specific coaching issues, including subsidies for coaching courses. The target of one qualified coach per club to one coach per team remains.
The RFU website has a mine of information for rugby coaches at whatever level you practice. In addition, it has links to enable you to purchase any coaching resource you may need. Full details can be found here:
