THE MATCH ITSELF
You blow your whistle loudly to start the game. This lets the players know that
a) Your whistle is working
b) Lets the players know the sound of it.
- Be decisive, consistent and fair
- Act confidently
- Whistle clearly with variations for different situations (whistle talk)
- Be firm but friendly (within reason)
- At Penalties/free kicks, big blow, arm pointing to which side has the kick (primary signal),then state what offense has occurred.
- Keep an accurate check of the scores & time.
- Try not to rush or act hastily, give yourself time.
- USE COMMON SENSE
If you have to show a yellow card, make a note of the player's name/number& put it on the back of your scorecard together with a note of the offence.
If there is no technical area, the offender must be sent behind the opponents goalposts (ADULT GAMES ONLY). Wait until the offender is there before restarting your watch & the game.
