- Westmorland Barbarians now have 50 players and have played 7 fixtures thanks to the efforts of Andy Brown and Garry Holmes in the South Lakes District of Cumbria.
- Workington RUFC received training on the RFU RugbyFirst System from RFU Development Officer Liam Nicholls. The training was designed by Liam and received some positive feedback thanks to its simple design and back up information.
- Egremont, Windermere & Creighton RUFC have all been signed off with the RFU Seal of Approval Award for the first time. This leaves Furness RUFC who should be completed in the next month and Hawcoat Park which would then give Cumbria a 100% completion rate for eligible clubs.
- The 8th Annual Under 23 Floodlit 10’s Event was held at Aspatria RUFC this year was the first time a team from out of the County were allowed to enter. Tynedale fetched a development team and were a very classy outfit winning the trophy. The deciding game was against Netherhall which was closely fought. All games were competitive and played in a very good spirit.
- Ben Blain – Carlisle RFC was presented with a vRugby Gold Award for his outstanding efforts over the past two years. Ben has raised in excess of £1000 for the club over the past two seasons as well as doing a number of other projects on behalf of his club. http://www.getnoticedonline.co.uk/rugby-union/general-ru/top-volunteer-ben-strikes-gold.html

7-18
- Cumbria U13 10’s Competition was won By St Benedicts School from Whitehaven with a flawless display throughout their pool and finals games. The team also won the NW State Schools Yr 8 Finals and the Yr 9’s were Runners Up in the North State Schools Finals at Tynedale. This is testament to the work that Garyth Orton is putting in at the School with Copeland Community Coach Martin Grealish.
- The Keswick Northern 7’s Competition was fought out by 12 Teams from across the North of England. The final was won by Dame Allan’s School from the North East but they were push hard by an excellent but tired Queen Elizabeth School from Kirkby Lonsdale who had come through a much tougher pool system.
- Cumbria U15 7’s was won by Trinity School from Carlisle who were strong through pool and final stages. They were pushed close in a gripping final by Ullswater Community College, a score on the final whistle by Trinity was all that separated the teams.
- The talented athlete programme trialled by Rugby Union and Allerdale SSP has been pretty successful and has highlighted certain areas which can be improved to ensure greater participation in sport. The trial was part of the 5hr offer HQ Pathways Themed Group and will be used as a model of good practice with other SSP’s across Cumbria initially.
- The 2nd Cumbria MLD/SLD Festival was held at Netherhall SSC with 6 schools participating an increase of 50% on 2009. 4 of the schools have indicated an interest in attending the NW Finals at Blackburn later in the year. The internal promotion by the special school staff to other staff has been the key to success and the increased attendance at local and potentially regional festivals.
- Aspatria held a very successful Youth Festival on 28th March where U8, U10 & U12 Teams from across the County participated. The festival was supported in the form of referees by the Cumbria RU Development Team who received so very positive feedback on their game and player management throughout the day. Thanks must go to Malcolm Wilson for organising the event.
