Club Development
- Aspatria RUFC have been the latest recipient of the RFU Whole Club Development Workshop. The session raised some interesting issues and has given the club some real areas of focus for both the current ‘off’ season and coming season. The event was attended by 18 individuals mainly from the club who contributed well to the workshop. In follow up to the event the club have formed a ‘New’ Ex & Current Players committee with a younger age profile to take the club forward. (This is a very positive move from feedback given at the workshop)
- The NW Regional Implementation Conference took on a slightly different approach this year with numbers being relatively low. The practical implementation of the new RFU Planning Funding and Reporting procedure was put into action and integrated into the CB Plans for 2010/11. There was representation from across the region with around 30 attendees in total assisting with the shaping of the overall NW and Local Plans going forward.

7-18
- All 2010/11NW Finals for Schools Competitions were put in place at the NW Planning Days at Preston GH RUFC in early May. This means that the Cumbria Development Team can build in their dates at the internal planning meeting on the 7th June 2010.
- Initial discussions are underway to host a Festival of Rugby in Cumbria in 2011 in the lead up to the World Cup. The plan came from an idea ran at Kirkby Lonsdale by Acumen Edge in the form of the International Rugby Festival. The Cumbria festival will invite teams from across the UK from U12-U16 & will be linked with Cumbria Tourist Board to promote; Rugby, Cumbria and the World Cup.
- The South Lakes Tag Rugby Festival has grown substantially since its inception in 2002/03 where 12 teams were in attendance. The recent festival had 34 registrations but with some late ‘pull outs’ 29 teams were in attendance on the day. Also in attendance were Craig Mackey – Chief of Cumbria Police and John Owen – RFU President which added immensely to the kudos of the occasion. With Officers working with the Schools through the Child Victims of Crime Charity it was great to see the Chief Constable supporting the event.
- Stainburn School were the sole representatives for Cumbria in the NW MLD / SLD Finals at Blackburn RUFC, performing very well on the day. The event was again a huge success with 40 teams from across the region in attendance.
- The Cumbria RU Tag Finals Day ran for the second year as a replacement for the County Youth Games which was discarded after the finals in 2008. The event again proved to be popular with 20 teams in attendance on the day. Eventual winners were Westfield Primary from Maryport who having been beaten in a close fought game in the semi final, progressed by default after Maryport Juniors had to leave early. The Westfield team took their chance and saw off Dane Ghyll Primary from the Furness Area in an exciting final.
