KIT AID
My name is Andrew Perry and I have just started as a volunteer collector in North Lancashire and Cumbria for Kit Aid.
Simply, Kit Aid is a charity which recycles obsolete rugby kit of any description from schools and clubs and sends it to any number of countries where rugby is a developing sport. At the moment those countries receiving aid are:-
ROMANINA, MOLDOVA,GEORGIA, UKRAINE, POLAND, SERBIA, CROATIA, HUNGARY, BULGARIA, LITHUANIA,
LATVIA, SWAZILAND, KAZAKHSTAN.
There are currently 55 other countries who have 'enrolled' and asked for help with kit to develop the game of rugby union. They are:-
ARABIAN GULF *ARGENTINA *ARMENIA *AZERBIJAN *BELARUS *BOTSWANA *BRAZIL *BURUNDI * CAMBODIA *CHAD * CHILE * CHINA *COLUMBIA * COSTA RICA * CUBA * CYPRUS *ESTONIA *ETHIOPIA *FINLAND * FIJI * GAMBIA *GHANA *INDIA *ISRAEL *JAMAICA * KENYA * LAOS *LESOTHO * MALAYSIA * MEXICO * MINORCA *NIGERIA * PAPUA NEW GUINEA *PARAGUAY *PHILLIPINES* * PORTUGAL * RWANDA *SAMOA * SEYCHELLES * SLOVAKIA *SPAIN *SRI LANKA * ST VINCENT *TANZANIA * THAILAND * TONGA * TURKEY * UGANDA *URUGUAY *UZBECKISTAN * VENEZUALA* WEST INDIES * ZAMBIA *ZIMBABWE
This charity is supported by the IRB (hence their inclusion in the title) and more can be found out from the web site at http://www.sosirbkitaid.org/
I would be grateful if you would circulate this to your member clubs and, particularly, schools as the latter can provide kits that can help the game in these countries where most needed, i.e. with the young players who will become the players of the future. In addition, school may be attracted by SOS being accredited as part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme for bronze, silver and gold standard.
SOS will take any kit (as long as it is clean, please!). It doesn't need to be full sets of 15 - simply anything will do and everything is sent abroad to places where the UK cost of a pair of boots is a parent's yearly wage. This is an ideal time to clear out the kit store and get rid of that massive pile of lost property that has been hanging around for ages. We will take it from you!
I can't guarantee an immediate collection, but what I can promise is that I will speak with anyone who contacts me and collect their unwanted kit from them.
I can be contacted on email at landaperry@btinternet.com home phone number 01524 420900 and mobile 07816 383790
Please ask your clubs to get in touch with me.
Should you wish, I could come and give a very short (5 - 10 minutes) presentation to your general club meeting and could try and attend any development camps that your rugby development officers are running.
