Club Development
- Furness RUFC have booked a WCDW with the Cumbria RDT for the 19th August. Club Official David Maguire is driving the event and ensuring a vast cross section of individuals from the club and local community will be in attendance on the evening.
- Windermere RUFC have also booked a WCDW with the Cumbria RDT for the 17th September. Club Official Mark Ireland is rounding up the club members to ensure there is a good representation of the club and community on the evening.
- Cumbria RFU held a 1st Aid Course @ Carlisle RFC on the 11th July where 10 individuals undertook the ‘New’ RFU First Aid Course from STA. The course received excellent feedback and the candidates took a lot of rugby specific information away from the session.
- Windermere RUFC have linked with the Westmorland Barbarians for the coming season to offer a senior player pathway for the U17/16 Teams which the Ba Ba’s are running.
- Egremont RUFC ran an internal touch rugby festival to recruit ex players back into the club environment. The day was miserable in terms of weather but players managed to get 8 teams in attendance with a total of around 60 players. Some of these players have joined the club as either a playing or non playing member.
- Kendal RUFC have been hosting a tag rugby programme throughout the June/July period which has had up to 50 players coming along to a ‘pitch up and play’ event organised through Garry Holmes CRC for South Lakeland. The event also had a fancy dress competition on the 31st July where numbers were damaged by the weather but the event was won by the “I smashed Jason Robinson” Team ran by Kendal Winger Jamie Postlethwaite.

7-18
- Lakes College West Cumbria hosted a Rugby/Multi Skills Camp where 30 individuals attended across the week. Numbers were slightly lower than usual due to the loss of an Active Zone Employee who used to deliver promotional activities in local schools.
- Copeland BC have confirmed funding for around £4,000 worth of volunteer development for the 2010/11 season. They are looking to subsidise younger volunteers through relevant programmes and integrate them into local delivery through community coaching and event management plus a number of other disciplines which may interest them such at marketing, web design and officiating.
- A Tag Festival prior to the summer break of schools was organised by Copeland CRC Martin Grealish. The festival attracted 8 teams and was attended by multiple members of the Egremont Club in order to attract players and invite them to the club for the 2010/11 season.
- Shelley Atkinson is running the vRugby Programme in Cumbria for the 3rd Year and has 8 clubs to again participate in the programme. After 2 successful years Shelley is hoping to make it a hat trick and encourage more younger volunteers within Cumbria to join their local club.

Coaching
- Furness RUFC hosted a Level 1 Coaching Course where 23 candidates undertook and passed the qualification. The club supported the course heavily putting 11 of its Coaches through the Award. The remainder of the coaches were from the Hawcoat Park and Kendal Clubs.
- The Cumbria RDT were recently put through their paces by Paul Reid – Assistant CDO (NW) where the new CPD Courses were assessed and a suggested delivery format produced. This should allow Cumbria to deliver more courses in 2010/11 for the intermittent Coach Development Sessions.
- Cumbria hosted the recent Training event for 6 of the NW Coach Educators. The training at Penrith RUFC looked at the rewriting of sections of the Level 1 Coaching Award and also at CPD Delivery using information gathered from the Cumbria RDT Meeting earlier in the month.
- Wigton RUFC held a Rugby Ready Course on the 18th July which attracted 34 candidates from across the County. The session was delivered by Kieran Marshall and Graham Kidd who have delivered a number of courses in Cumbria so have picked up some useful experience.
- Kieran Marshall ran a Rugby Leaders Award and a Tag Course in Barrow, the RLA having 19 candidates and the Tag having 7. All 26 candidates will be integrated into summer camps in the area both Rugby and Multi Skills and the top candidates will formulate part of the delivery programme in Barrow for 2010/11.
