Corsham march on
Corsham wrapped up a no-frills 27-0 victory over Swindon 2nd to preserve their unbeaten league record and move second in Dorset & Wilts Division 1 North.
Swindon's second string, joint top before kick-off, arrived at Lacock Road with a 100 per cent record and a number of players with first-team experience.
But with their pack gaining the upper hand, Corsham took control in the early exchanges and only a combination of over-elaborate play and spirited counter work from the visitors held them at bay.
A driving maul eventually broke the deadlock, No 8 Mick Mealing touching down after a concerted drive.
Soon after, a flowing three-quarter moved stretched the Swindon defence, full-back Craig Avent created the overlap and wing Denzil Brockhurst won the footrace to score wide out.
Corsham continued to enjoy the better of territory and possession and the third score of the first half arrived when fly-half and skipper Haydn Brockhurst found loosehead Ed Minty, whose angle of running carried him through and under the posts.
Denzil Brockhurst converted for a 17-0 lead at the break.
Swindon, led by the bullocking runs of No 8 Nick Warren, enjoyed a greater share of possession in the third quarter, but the home defences held firm and skipper Brockhurst grabbed the all-important first score of the second half when he dummied his way through the cover.
Corsham played a more structured and containing game in the second period but they still managed to show their paces and none more so than for the final try when Avent released Gary Ings with an inside pass and the winger outsprinted the Swindon defences to score.
