17th November 2008 - WOODBRIDGE MATCH REPORT AND UPDATE
The match report for the Woodbridge game is now online. It was disappointing to lose after a good run of results but it means that the cup match against them in a couple of weeks now has some added spice and will give us an early chance to avenge the defeat. Some lessons need to be learned about body positions when rucking and mauling as we were out performed by the Woodbridge pack.
This coming Sunday we are in Norwich to play two games and will be taking every available player as they have a similar sized squad to ours so please let the coaches know if you cannot make the trip.
Training as normal at 6.30 on Wednesday finishing at 8.30 pm.
13th November 2008 - WOODBRIDGE TEAM SELECTION AND SUFFOLK CUP DRAW
The team selection for the Woodbridge match on Sunday 16th is now online. Kick off is at 11.30 so in the changing room ready at 10.15 please. Anyone listed who cannot make it please let the coaches know as soon as possible.
Next week, the match is away at Norwich and is for ALL players as there will be two games. Please make every effort to go as it not often that we can play two games on one day.
The Suffolk Cup draw has now been made and the fixture list is now changed to reflect the games. We are in pool Y and we are playing Woodbridge on the 7th Dec, Stowmarket on 18th Jan and Ipswich on 8th Feb. The winner of the pool will play in the final on the 22nd March and the runners up will play for the plate on the same date.
9th November 2008 - IPSWICH MATCH REPORT
The match report for the game against Ipswich is now online. Well done to everyone who came on Sunday - the main team performance was good and the overall effort by everyone was great. There are of course some things to work on - if anything our success at retaining the ball meant that we had too many players in the way and passes went astray.
Next Sunday we have a home game against Woodbridge which will be for a mixed side. Anyone not available, please let the coaches know.
Training will be on Wednesday as normal.
6th November 2008 - IPSWICH TEAM SELECTION
The Ipswich team selection is now online so please read the details. The squad listed will meet at Ipswich at 9.30 and kick off at 10.30. We are a little earlier than normal so that we can spend a bit of time doing some unopposed run throughs prior to kick off.
All other available players not listed are to arrive by 11 am ready for an 11.30 kick off in a half hour training game. Please change as soon as you can and make your way to the playing pitches to report to Mark; there will be no pre-game talk in the changing room for the later arrivals. There are not enough shirts for everyone to warm up in so please ensure you have a training top with you and ensure that you exchange a shirt with a player from the listed squad after their game finishes.
3rd November 2008 - ELY MATCH REPORT AND UPDATE
The Ely match report is now online so please read and enjoy.
The Ipswich game on Sunday will no longer be for 2 teams due to injury and absence in the Ipswich squad. Full team selection for the remaining game will be posted later in the week. Please keep checking these pages for updates.
3rd November 2008 - TRAINING THIS WEEK
Due to the firework night event at the club on Wednesday 5th November, there will be no training on that evening. Due to the additional pressure on pitches on Tuesday and Thursday, no alternatives are possible at the club so there will be no training this week at all.
31st October 2008 - ELY TEAM SELECTION AND UPDATE
The team selection for Sunday's game against Ely is now online - the kick off is set for 11 am and so players are to be in the changing rooms for 10.15 please. White shirts and ties for afterwards as well please.
Please note that training on 5th November will not be possible as the club is being used for the 5th November firework display and so will be unavailable for any training. Alternatives are currently being looked at.
The following weekend, 9th November, is away at Ipswich and ALL players will be needed as there will be two games. Please confirm to the coaches if you are unavailable for any Sundays in the near future.
28th October 2008 - STOWMARKET MATCH REPORT AND UPDATE
The match report for Sunday is online - well done to the squad that attended for a good result.
Training this week will be from 6.30 to 8 pm only due to other commitments so please be aware of the time change for this week only.
Next week is a home game against Ely which will involve a number of players who did not play in the last couple of weeks. There is also a fixture list change - on the 23rd we are now away to Norwich and will be taking the entire squad as they also have two teams so please let the coaches know if you are unavailable for that date. The same applies to the Ipswich game on the 9th which will also involve two teams.
23rd October 2008 - STOWMARKET TEAM SELECTION
The team selection for Sunday's game v Stowmarket is now online and directions are shown on the directions page of the U14 section. Unfortunately as I am away and 2 coaches are needed at Stowmarket there will be no training alternative for those not going. This may mean that some players have a second Sunday with no rugby and we apologise for this. However, there is plenty of rugby coming up so make the most of the time off. Good luck to the players involved on Sunday.
Please remember that there is a new fixture on the list for 2nd November, at home v Ely followed by a difficult trip for the whole squad to Ipswich on the 9th.
20th October 2008 - SUDBURY MATCH REPORT AND UPDATE
The Sudbury match report is now online. Well done to the squad for the win which was obviously hard fought and congratulations to Joe Tottie on scoring his hat-trick - clearly the move to centre has worked for him. Brilliant coaching is what I say!
Training on Wednesday as usual 6.30 to 8.30 and next Sunday is an away game at Stowmarket which will involve the Development squad again but with a few more subs as they are a strong side as we discovered when we played them at the Diss festival at the end of last year. Squad selection will be online on Thursday. Please also note that there is a fixture list change - we are now playing Ely at home on 2nd November instead of home training.
16th October 2008 - SUDBURY TEAM SELECTION
The team list for the match against Sudbury has now been posted online - kick off is at 10.30 so please be at the ground ready to start warming up at 9.45 am. Directions are also now available online on the Directions page. This match is a Developement squad match for those players who did not make the A team selection last week and there are also a number of A squad players included to provide cover for key positions. Any players unavailable for Sunday should please email Mark as soon as possible.
16th October 2008 - SUFFOLK RUGBY TRIALS
Congratulations go to Timo Barrow, Ryan Bennett and Cameron Ramsay who have all been named in the Suffolk U14 rugby squad for the first matches against Cambridgeshire on December 10th. I have no doubt that they will represent the club well. Well done also to Jacob Curtis for making the final trial.
14th October 2008 - COLCHESTER MATCH REPORT AND UPDATE
The match report for the Colchester game is now online. For those who were not there we were completely outplayed and unfortunately our team had very little answer to their speed and strength. Despite some great defence we were also prone to making some very silly mistakes so we are going to be quite harsh with the squad at training as clearly what is being done on the practice pitch is not getting on to the match pitches.
On Sunday the Development squad will go to Sudbury for a 10.30 kick off. This will involve all of those who did not play last Sunday plus a few extras. Selection will be posted on line on Thursday after training.
This coming Sunday (19th) is the first ever Mini's festival being held at Bury and anyone not going to Sudbury would be welcome to help out as volunteers to help with car parking, pitch marshalling and plenty of other jobs. Please contact Andy Spetch or Mike Robinson at the club if you have the time to help out.
10th October 2008 - YOUTH PHYSIO APPOINTED
Youth chirman Nigel Gossett has now confirmed that a phsiotherapist has been appointed to deal with Youth physio concerns on a Thursday evening from 7.30 to 9. John Grindrod has agreed to provide a service to Youth club members on a first come first served basis at the club so if you have any concerns that may need expert advice, please do not hesitate to come down to the club on a Thursday evening to get checked out.
9th October 2008 - TEAM SELECTION - COLCHESTER 12TH OCTOBER
Thanks to those who came to training on Wednesday. I am afraid I did not get back from London until later so was unable to attend.
This Sunday is an A team game against Colchester. Although they do have 2 teams, their development side is already playing against Wymondham so we will only see one team come to Bury. The team selection for this match is as listed on the team selection page. Kick off is at 10.30 so in the changing room at 9.45 please. If there are any problems with availability please let me know. There will be NO training alternative for those not involved in the game on Sunday but please bear in mind that the next two weekends are B team games so there will be plenty of rugby to come! Any support for the squad on Sunday will be most welcome.
From now on you will find team selection, contact information, fixture lists, results, news and match reports all on the Under 14 sub-section of the Youth section of the web site, which is www.bserufc.co.uk. I am planning to add a “directions to other clubs” page and a photos page so that we can upload any photos that parents might have taken of games etc. Any other suggestions for information on the web site would be much appreciated. The posting of information on the web site will hopefully avoid the communication issues that have occurred in the last couple of weeks due to problems with email. If there is anyone who cannot access the web site please let me know but hopefully this development will mean the end of the group email and its occasional failures!
In the Suffolk trials, congratulations to Timo, Ryan Bennett, Cam Ramsay and Jacob who have been asked to attend the 2nd trial on Monday and commiserations to the other members who did not make it. It is good to know that we have core of very capable players who are worthy of consideration for representative honours.
6th October 2008 - WYMONDHAM REPORT
Well done to everyone who came yesterday to play in horrible conditions. We played some good rugby considering the weather and managed to win both games which is very good news. Congratulations to the new club members who played their first competitive 15 a side games – Matt Hunt, Harry Couture, Ed Birrell, Hamish Proctor and Alex Lack all acquitted themselves very well. Match reports will follow.
I have had a terrible time with my emails recently so hopefully this one gets around to everyone okay. I am going to start putting things on to the rugby club web site like fixture lists, team selections, ground directions and match reports so that you don’t have to rely on the email to get information. More about this later in the week.
Tonight is Suffolk trials night and I think I have spoken to everyone going – they are:
Timo Barrow
Ryan Bennett
Trevor Clough
Jamie Cooke
Jacob Curtis
Matt Hunt
Joe Phillips
Cameron Ramsay
Kai Stemp
Jordan Williamson
The evening starts at 7 pm at Ipswich rugby club which is on Humber Doucy Lane, IP4 3PZ in Ipswich. Come off the A14 at the Asda turnoff, follow the road in to the mini roundabouts and turn left on the ring road towards Woodbridge. Go through two sets of lights and over 2 roundabouts before taking the left slip road signposted Northgate Sports Centre which is just after going over a bridge. Follow this road to the end and the club is right in front of you. There are one or two spaces available for a lift with Andy Ramsay who is picking up from the BP Haberden petrol station if needed.
Training on Wednesday as usual and next Sunday is an A team game against Colchester. They also have a B team but unfortunately they cannot bring them as they have a fixture elsewhere so only the A team will be able to play. As there are 4 youth teams at home as well as a mini’s double header, there will be no pitch space for the remaining squad members to train so there will not be any training alternative that day. The following two Sundays are B team fixtures though against Sudbury and Stowmarket so there will be plenty of rugby to play.
30th September 2008 - SEVENS REPORT
Thanks to all who came to the sevens on Sunday. It was a long but rewarding day with plenty of rugby played and some great performances. It was great to see the A squad come back from a 2 try deficit against Ipswich to win with some great rugby in the 2nd half and the same for the B squad who were 19-7 down against Hadleigh at half time and came back to win 21-19. Congratulations also go to a number of players who made their competitive debuts for the club – Matt Hunt, Harry Couture, Alex Lack and Jack McKendrick all did very well and we look forward to seeing them on the 15 a side pitch. Both Matt Hunt and Joe Tottie were excellent in attack scoring a substantial number of tries in the league section. Unfortunately both teams were beaten in the first knockout stages but nevertheless a great all round day. Thanks also to all the parents for coming down and supporting particularly for such a long day.
This we week return to 15 a side rugby with training on Wednesday as usual from 6.30 but then this Sunday, 5th October, is our first full competitive action against Wymondham who are bringing two teams. We will be playing a B team against their development side at 10.30 and then an A team fixture at 11.30 so there will be two specific squads selected after training on Wednesday. For those of you who have not been involved in match days before, we have the use of a changing room and we always ask the boys to be changed and ready in the changing rooms 45 minutes before the kick off time so B squad that will mean 9.45 and A squad that will mean 10.45. When the matches are finished, the boys then change into plain white shirts, club ties and school trousers for a post match meal which is normally pasta, chilli or something with chips. We also pay a match fee of £2.50 per head every time we play a competitive match either home or away, collected after the game in the clubhouse.
Any questions please call and if anyone cannot make it on Sunday please let me know if you have not already done so.
Regards.
Mark
