Winning Start!
The 2011-2012 season started with a three way fixture against Harwich & Clacton and despite having several new players in the starting line-up soon took control in their first match against Clacton. Although Clacton started well they had no answer to a powerful display from the Brightlingsea backs and once the first score was put on the board it was all one way traffic from then-on. Final score Clacton 0 B'sea 39.
The second game saw a very happy Harwich side take to the field having just beaten Clacton 10 - 5 and although the boys in black started well Brightlingsea were in no mood to let them take control. Good defence throughout the whole team saw Harwich under pressure at the breakdown which resulted in quick ball for our backs to take advantage of the full size pitch running in several ties. Final score Harwich 0 Brightlingsea 60.
A great warm-up before next weeks Suffolk 7's although the boys played well not all the teams they play this season will give them the same amount of time & space.
Brightlingsea under12’s win Plate.
Brightlingsea made the long trip to Upminster to take part in their annual B festival and came away winning the Plate.
Having been drawn against some of the biggest clubs in Essex the boys in red soon put an end to Woodford with a solid 10 – 5 victory. Next up were Old Elthamians from Kent a side full of talented players but having not lost since last October Brightlingsea yet again came back from behind to gain a 5 –5 draw. The third and best game of the day was against Braintree who started like a train and were camped on the reds goal line for most of the first half. Despite all the pressure Braintree failed to score until the end after losing heart as the boys in red put them to the sword with some excellent passing, running from deep at pace & dominant play in the forwards resulting in a 15 – 5 win. All that was needed in the last pool game was a draw to reach the Cup final but a massive team from Southend had other ideas. Straight from the kick off it seemed only a matter of time before Southend scored and did so when their powerful forwards pushed over scoring twice to lead 10 nil. A quick half time wake up call from the reds coach then saw Brightlingsea once again fight back scoring once but while pushing forward to repeat and level the scores Southend added a third. Knowing they had lost the chance to reach the Cup final the last play of the game then saw the scrum collapse and at the final whistle three Brightlingsea forwards came off the field injured final score 15 – 5 loss. Having missed out on the Cup final Brightlingsea went into the Plate final against Thames. Having started the day with 12 the reds could now only field 9 fit players who all decided to give it one last go and against all odds held Thames to a nil all draw to share the Plate. Player of the tournament went to: The whole team
