18/09/10 Heath 3rds Home on the Park pitch
Heath came over with an experienced team there forwards were much bigger than our re-arranged pack due to work and 1st team injuries Alex prop Weedy moving to hooker and GP volunteered to prop so we could have contested scrums (top or mad man?) Longshanks was still injured but vice captain was back from the cannonball run to take his place alongside big Dave Parker who was late due to getting cover for his pub coming ready changed to play (thanks Dave)both teams started steadily winning their own scrums and line outs. Bramley was on the longer uphill slope finding it hard to gain yards Heath took the lead with a try and conversion to which Bramley did make it to their 22 and replied with GP going over converted by Aiden Bramley was on their back foot and kicked aimlessly to their fullback who danced his way through what seemed like all the team to score again converted try, Bramleys forwards were starting to push their opposite numbers backwards which allowed the backs to run into their half we chipped through and got a lineout in their 22 which Ben Wilkinson stole the ball Daz passed to Aiden who jinxed his way over for the try to which he converted. Half time 14-14
Bramley now had the long downhill slope to their advantage Bramley kicked off to which Heath gathered the ball and ran strong uphill which put Bramleys younger backs under a bit of pressure but they tackled strongly won a scrum and Aiden put us deep in their half Ben won the lineout again a maul was formed for Dave Parker to crash over Aiden converted Heath kicked off and Bramleys clearance kick was sliced to their fullback who danced through everyone to score conversion missed. Bramley kicked off again the forwards winning the ruck and the back ran at them only to try a chip over which was charged down allowing an easy breakaway try 21-19 to Bramley. The game was back and forth Sam going over for one 26-19 then Heaths turn 26-24 five minutes later Heath was awarded a penalty? Which was given (the sun must have been in the refs eyes?) 26-27 Two minutes to go! Bramley kicked long the forwards tackled the catcher recycled the ball and it was shipped it out wide only to knock on scrum! Bramley drove them off it Daz passed to Aiden he chipped over the defence everyone thought game over only for Heath to fumble a yard out young Daz Oxley picked up and scored which Aiden converted from the touchline.
Final Score Bramley 33-Heath 27
Man of the match Ben Wilkinson for his line out work Dick of the day Paul (franky) franks for tripping!
25/09/10 Old Modernians 2nds Home
There were a few changes this week due to injuries to the 1st team squad Dave Parker, Chris Kovaks, Damien Orbell and Scott Kelly were all elevated to the 1st team squad and we hear they all gave a good show of themselves well done boys.
Andy Longley was back in the 2nd row alongside Ben Wilkinson to stabilise the scrums a young back row of Josh Woodhead, Jeff Vanlelyveld and Tom Clayton at 8 Mark “stretch Weed and Alex Farnham at prop and young Matty “I don’t want subbing” Oliver adding his bulking frame at hooker the backs was nearly the same Daz “I’m white” Oxley at 9 Aiden “still ginger” McGrath at 10 centres Ian “cassy” Fox Rob “slightly overweight” Popple wings Sam Richardson and new boy Alex “gloves” Haworth with Paul Franks holding up the rear at 15 We had a wealth of experience (old farts) on the bench Paul “the Ref” Richardson, Michael “Benny” Benn and Keith “Pops” Popple (combined ages of 120 years+)
Bramley kicked off into a slight breeze with” Mods” catching the ball and driving well into our half! only a solid tackle in the midfield halted their progress play was evenly match for the opening quarter Bramley had a scrum on half way Daz fed Aiden quick hands to Cassy saw him go round the “Mods” defence with a couple of hand offs which he scored in corner which Aiden converted 7-0 Bramley went back to their old ways not following kicks sloppy tackling which allowed “Mods” straight back into it 3 quick converted tries 7-21 Franky hurt his arm “cuticle” in a tackle to be replaced by Benny, Andy “Longshanks” Longley went off with a broken ankle to be replaced by Paul “the Ref” Richardson Half Time 7-21 to “Mods”
Half time and after a few words Bramley started to play with more commitment in attack and defence to which they did well! Ginger McGrath got over for a try but he missed the conversion 12-21 play was back and forth but the Bramley defence was more committed Rob Popple having a few big hits young Tom Clayton hurt his leg “old man Pops came on at wing forward “first time ever in 32 years of playing in the pack!” Mad Martin had turned up to watch and got changed which we needed as Rob Popple went off with blurred vision “realised later he had no glasses on?” Mad Martin went into the pack Pops went to full back Bramley started to run the ball into” Mods” half “Mad” Martin drove to the line passed back inside for Alex “gloveless” Howarth to score Ginge missed the kick 17-21 Bramley were playing catch up “Mods” picked up a loose ball on half way and scored they missed the kick 17-26 Heads did not drop 15 minutes to go Bramley attacked with everything they had and it paid of Matty “glad I wasn’t subbed” went over in the corner for his 2nd this year ginge missed the kick 22-26 ten minutes left Bramley threw everything at them but their defence held on to get them the win. Bramley let Mods get to far in front in the 1st half and was always playing catch up let’s hope we learn from this? Well done Boys.
Full Time 22-26
Man of the Match went to Jeff for his work rate Dick of the day went to Benny (chosen by Dave Oliver)
02/10/10 Morley 3rds Cancelled due to them not having a full team
09/10/10 Leeds Corinthians Home
(Report is a bit vague this week due to me being worse for wear Saturday night Sorry)
Leeds Corinthians came over at short notice to yet another team crying off late Friday night Our Thanks go to Corinthians!
Corinthians turned with a young side with a few old heads amongst them just like Bramley. Leeds opted for unopposed scrums which suited both teams Us being short of front rowers!
Leeds kicked off to Bramley who as usual nobody called for it? But thankfully it was tidied up and the early pressure was relieved both teams started cautiously but it was Bramley who struck first with a converted try this seemed to be story of the first half Bramley attacking at every opportunity Ian “Cassy” Fox and Mick “Benny” Benn splitting the defence nearly every time they had ball in hand with both teams WINNING their own scrums Bramley had chance to try some of the moves learnt in training which looked good to watch (can’t remember the order of the try scorers) but Leeds did score in the 1st half from a sloppy lineout where their own Robo-Prop “Andy Cassar an old Phoenix player” fell over to score !
Half Time (score?)
A few changes at half time saw Scott Kelly, Trist Woodhead, Carl “chippy" Vanlelyveld, young Luke Potapi and Brett a new recruit come on to the field Martin Reynard went off as he was tired? Bramley was in charge all around the pitch Scott Kelly went over unopposed for 1 Dave “recently separated” Parker got over for 1 Daz “I’m white” Oxley and even chippy got 1! Aiden went off as he hurt his elbow and was replaced by Keith “old man” Popple (who is 3 times his age!) but managed to finish the game unlike Rob “I’m overweight” Popple still hung over? Martin Reynard came back on for Corinthians as they had an injury to even the sides up but only in numbers as he was not allowed to play as our forwards had his number!!!!!!!!!!
Try scorers
Mick Benn 2 Ian Fox 2 Scott Kelly 1 Dave “back with the missus” Parker 1 Daz Oxley 1 Chippy 1

Final Score 48-5
Man of the match went to Luke Potapi for his nonstop performance Dick of the Day went to 2 players Chippy for the knock on and Sheppy for going to the side line TO KISS HIS GIRLFRIEND when everyone else was in the middle of the pitch!
16/10/10 Halifax Vandals 2nds Away
We travelled to Halifax expecting a hard encounter? To which they didn’t let us down we were short of a few of our regular players due to first team injuries.
Martin Geldard stepped up to play prop alongside Carl Tate who has returned to playing after a knee injury and the ever present Mark “Stretch “Weed playing hooker also making a return to Bramley colours was Chris “Magalufs Stud” Gibson in the second row, Bramley lost the toss and was playing downhill with a slight wind advantage early exchanges were even but after ten minutes or so the Vandals superior weight and experience in the scrum started to give them the impetus they needed picking and driving forcing Bramley backwards, Bramley seemed to match them in the line outs and the back line were quicker with ball in hand Ian “cassy” fox made his usual arcing run handing off a couple of would be tacklers to score which Aiden “Ginger Rogers” converting 7-0 play continued with Bramley attacking downhill but Vandals defence held firm play was stopped due to Chris “ Magalufs press stud” Gibson having to leave the pitch due to having WIND! Tom “Mankini “Harper went into the 2nd row and Trist “MILF” Woodhead went into the back row play was even until Ginger Rogers got the ball and danced his way through to score an excellent individual try to which he converted 14-0 Vandals hit straight back and got a try themselves making it 14-5 Stuart “Sheppy “Shepherd was hit and said his shoulder had popped out? (To where we don’t know) as he got up and played on till half time Half Time 14-5
Bramley had it all to do in the second half uphill with the wind in their faces Vandals forwards resorted to the old rules to which the Ref did not penalise? Vandals were rucking and mauling using their strength and weight advantage pay as they went in their second try but missed the conversion 14-12 Bramley made a few more changes Damien “the flyer” Orbell Stuart Shepherd both wingers letting two more debutants on Dave “alwight” Wright and Matty Kasher and Luke Potapi came on for Josh Woodhead Daz”im white” Oxley was replaced by Old man Pops Bramleys defence was tested at every opportunity Micky Benn led by example and directed the defence needed to keep Vandals out time was running out for Vandals they had 2 kickable penalties near the end but both went wide Bramley had defended their line Paul “Franky “Frank made a few try savers Benny summed it up after the whistle and said every “one stood their ground today” which won us the game.
Final Score 14-12
Man of the Match
Went to Tom”Mankini”Harper for his nonstop running Dick of the day went to Chris “Magalufs Press stud “Gibson for having WIND and could not run!
23/10/10 Moortown 3rds Home
Moortown came to the Warrels with a very strong and experienced squad Bramley had a few changes due to 1st team call ups work and injuries the game started and was evenly matched for the 1st quarter then the experience of the Moortown pack took over giving their backs time and space to run too which they did very well Moortown proved that experience sometimes is better than youth and on the day ran out convincingly winners 5-29 Adem Ainsley made his 1st start this season with a consolation try for Bramley.
Final Score 5-29
Man of the Match went to Daz “I’m White” Oxley Dick of the Day Went to Old Man Pops for being deaf
30/10/10 Skipton Away
Bramley travelled to Skipton expecting a hard game against a team a few leagues above us making the trip in a mini coach and several cars, a few of the younger players set off with map in hand before the coach only to be rung a bit later asking which way to Skipton ? (PLONKERS) We arrived with 4 players sorry PLONKERS still looking for the ground so we had to start missing 2 of our centres re-arranged the back line and kicked off! At first it was evenly matched both teams settled quickly but it was Bramleys pack which gave the backs the chance to test Skiptons defence? Bramley took the lead with a try but Aiden (Wayne Sleep) forgot his kicking boots was well wide, Skipton came back and scored the arm wrestle continued until the PLONKERS turned up and replaced 1 of the centres with Ian Fox who quickly got into the game and scored (luckily he remember where the try line was?)
HALF TIME 15-15
In the 2nd half Bramley was making too many changes to the team to allow everyone a run out which upset their rhythm and was making a lot of mistakes and let Skipton take advantage and take the lead! We had to use the rolling subs and get our big guns back on and settle it down to which they did Dave Durand making breaks at nearly every time he had the ball in hand Matty Oliver went back on and tackled everything we slowly clawed our way back into the game we were trailing 25-30 with 5 minutes on the clock Matty Oliver drove the ball to 5 meters of the line laid it back for Aiden Sleep to dive over at short range and to everyone’s amazement including himself he actually converted 1 from the touchline !
After the game we all went for a few beers in Skipton to everyones enjoyment!
How many German Bombers were shot down?
Final Score 32-30
Man of the Match Went to Dave Durand Dick of the Day Went to?
06/11/10 Burley 2nds Home
Bramley welcomed Burley our Local Derby with a lot of pride at stake for both sides.
Bramley again had a large amount of players available all keen to play, we had a few players unavailable due to work commitments but had a new face at scrum half Tom? Aiden was at another job interview so old man Pops stood in at 10 a change in the centre saw Paul Frank with young Ian Fox on the wing Bramley had a heavy pack which gave the backs a lot of ball to play with? Ian Fox going over in the 5th minute for his first of his hat trick conversion missed! young Liam Ballance making his 1st start this season at 15 went over in the 15th minute con missed Burley forwards was winning a lot of ruck ball to which their forwards took advantage and powered over near the posts which was converted Bramley were straight back at them with Ian Fox getting over in the 23rd and 35th minutes to complete his hat trick.
Half Time 20-7
The second half Bramley made changes frequently Back row Dave Parker, Tom Harper was replaced by Jay Pickard and Josh Woodhead Ben Wilkinson was replaced by Trist Woodhead old man Pops was replaced by Stephen (I’m Married) Warnes Ian Fox came off to let Matt Kasher on Damien Orbell came off to let Dave Wright on Bramleys rhythm was again disrupted due to mass changes which let Burley go over for 2 more tries with 1 conversion Bramley changed their entire front row Matty Oliver Martin Geldard for Sean Fisher John Oxley with Mark Weed moving to hooker Matty Oliver went to scrum half as Tom took a knee to his ribs Paul Franks went to full Back Sam Richardson went in the centre play continued Burley taking advantage of so many changes and had the lion’s share of play but Bramleys defence stood firm due to Micky Benn’s leadership in the midfield Mark Weed had to go off and Matty Oliver went back to hooker old man Pops came back on at scrum half, Bramley got the ball wide whenever possible Chris Kovaks was in support as usual and it paid off when he received the ball and ran 30 yards to score, 20 minutes went by before Bramley got up to Burleys 22 due to a nice chip from Warnsey which led to a knock on! Bramley scrum held firm Jay Pickard picked up fed Pops who drew the wing and passed to Matt Kasher to go over and score Bramley held on to the final whistle.
Final Score 32-19
Man of the Match Went to Matty Oliver Dick of the Day Went to Mark Weed
