Bradford on Avon RFC Under-16s
The Under-16 squad had a weekend away in the Forest of Dean where they were meant to play Lydney RFC on the Saturday and Monmouth on the Sunday. Lydney unfortunately cancelled at the last minute so all the players were very focused on the Sunday fixture against Monmouth.
The team spent 20 minutes firing themselves up before kick off, then to be given the disappointing news that Monmouth only had 11 players. Ollie, Andy and Mat kindly played for the opposition in the first half, with Maggo, Eddie and Jamie swapping with them at half time.
The whole team still really applied themselves fully and we actually had a very good competitive game.
Eddie Smith Taylor will be appearing on Question of Sport shortly with the posing question of "Name the player that scored a try in each half of the match, at the same end of the field!" (that's one for Bradford and one for Monmouth)
Jack Harvey scored two excellent tries darting down the blind side from rucks, Ed Borton also ran in two good efforts. The best try of the first half saw a flat Bradford back line whip the ball down the backs with some fingertip passing for Eddie to score.
Max Peters scored a good winger's try in the second half having moved out there from his usual No.8 position, the opposition also gave him man of the match for his first half performance.
Toby Davies kicked four conversions and Maggo unfortunately proved to be the opponent's best player in the second half, particular when he cut Max in half just as he looked to be going in for another score.
Bradford put their feet up and went to sleep for 20 minutes in the second half allowing Monmouth to score 4 tries, but they picked their game up again for the last 10 minutes, the result was never really in doubt, even though, rather ironically, Bradford played with 14 men for the last 20 minutes while the opposition had 15 players which included 3 Bradford boys.
